There appears to be a difference between a Christian and a church member because you can be one without the other. God saves and creates the Christian who is instantly created a new part of the body of Christ without going through a membership class and entering into a covenant contract to become a member of a church organization. You can clearly be a part of the body of Christ without being a member of an organizational church group. The Christian is commanded to assemble with but the Christian is not commanded to contract with other believers. John Calvin needed a contract to deal with non Christians in the church and city of Geneva. The contract provides accountability to the non Christian. Leaders should be able to apply Scriptures to Christians without a contract. No contract is needed for the Church to function as God intended it. The Corporate syncritism that joins the STATE with the Church is repulsive to many people but they can't quite put their finger on what's wrong but they can feel the Spirit grieving within their heart, so they know something is wrong. The corporatism and legal contracts are smothering. God's Church should be spreading like a wild fire and people should be added every day to the Church, but most modern churches can't do that....
