Nunez has been regarded a "raw" talent for 2 seasons. If you are going to be signed by a massive club for a massive fee you need to adapt quickly to not be regarded as a flop. Nunez hasn't. Darwin Nunez reminds me of Andy Carroll. I promise it's a compliment.
Not many strikers genuinely scare defenders. Andy Carroll did. When fit, this powerful, technically gifted fucking Geordie giant coming off the bench actually made defenders panic. Every defender hated playing against him, even though he was injury-prone and inconsistent because he didn't even need to have a good game to cause endless problems.
Nunez has that vibe. Nuisance value, can never leave him alone as a defender because you can never tell what kind of day he's gonna have, and he's got physical attributes to make your life hell even at his absolute worst. I hope he doesn't end up with Carroll's injury record too, because I genuinely think Andy Carroll is one of the scariest strikers of recent years, and so is Nunez.

I'm sorry, but what is up with rival fans comparing every new striker to Erling Haaland. Liverpool fans comparing Nunez to Haaland and United fans comparing Hojlund to Haaland.
This is why so many new signings are "flops." Fans give them a high expectation when they still have yet to prove themselves at a top level, unlike Haaland. If a new signing doesn't score 55 goals a season and wins the Golden Boot, then they are a flop.
I think Darwin Nunez will come through and be a decent striker. I don't think he will be as good as Jota, but I think he could challenge Jota. My man just needs some consistency

I think he can be very effective playing off the left wing where he doesn't have to be a clinical finisher to be useful, but the same is likely true of Diaz and Gakpo. That leaves Salah and Jota to bag goals, but Salah's skills are fading and Jota isn't available enough to be relied upon. In short, I think Nunez is miscast as a primary central goalscorer and would be better used as a high-energy pressing inside forward.

The thing is he embodies the Liverpool way.
He has the agression , he has that pace , he has that workrate , he has the talent but the amount of chances he has missed is just absurdly high . He is too inconsistent to be a no 9. Next year will be a rebuild season (hoping for trophy though ) its perfect time to slot to experiment with him possibly at lw. The thing salah is goona eventually slow down , thats inevitable. But our academy and bench has young passionate players who have the talent and do work hard. Eliot will be a great rw , when the time eventually comes . Lucho (diaz) is just like nunez and his finishing is bad too. Gakpo will take the no 9 from him, if he doesn't perform well. And because diaz is so good ( only lacks finishing)and jota can play both lw and st nunez will have to sit on bench .The next season will be decider for him.

Liverpool fan here. I’d stick with Nunez one more season, I think we play much better with him in the side. He creates “chaos” (everyone says it but it’s true) he makes defenders second guess themselves, has that raw pace which is a great outball and is very selfless. Let’s be honest, if he put away the easy chances this season he’d be considered the best striker in the league. However, that’s a big if. I’d be more concerned if he wasn’t getting into goal scoring positions, so I say give him one more year, if he can hone in on his finishing and timing of runs we could have a real monster on our hands, which we’ve seen glimpses of this season, but if he doesn’t next season I’d be looking to sell

In his career it has taken him two years at each club to really take off. Did it in Almería at 2nd division in Spain, later in Benfica.
It seems almost natural that it would take longer in the Premier. Entering his 3rd season at LFC you may see a jump on that fastidious XG number..
Probabilities would tend to support the idea that with just a small percentage improvement of, say, 10% of goals scored over big chances he should be banging 20/25 goals..
Liverpool would be foolish to move him, specially in a year of transition with a new manager coming in.
If the new Brass is looking to cut possible future losses, letting him go for less than the 70 million pounds he’s still worth per Transfermarkt (perhaps thinking that another “bad” season would devaluate him) may live to regret it as they watch him bang 50 goals for another team.. Intriguing stuff.. that Edwards guy’s pupils are shaped like a Pound sign so, he might sell him regardless of Slot’s opinion..
Prediction - stays at LFC: 29 goals/18 assists in PL with 12/7 in CL, 4/2 in Carabao and 8/3 in FA cup..

  • @athosgomesfonseca

Darwin Núñez needs to adjust to involve himself in the build up play and to do that, he needs to work on his first touch and vision. He’s a solid 9 but the problem is that football has evolved beyond a static centre forward that seats at the tip of the formation and awaits for the ball to reach him. However, players north of 6’ suffer from stamina and injury issues due to their sheer body mass. If he can find a good physician and dietitian to reach as close to an ideal body mass as he can without compromising his strength and speed, he can definitely become one of if not the biggest striker of his generation. His confidence has staggered due to the physicality of the Prem which is nonexistent in Uruguay or Portugal, and defenders in the English league have already studied him inside and out. If he works things out with the new manager, he can become the principal player. Håland on the other hand needs to leave City. They don’t need a 9 and his physique impedes him from really fitting in BUT he may as well stay and evolve into a better fit for Pep since City can support him. He was relatively anonymous this season and still scored buckets, so he can definitely become a monster but if he wants to be notorious, Italy is calling. Him at Inter right now with Lautaro would score excess of 100 combined goals. Serie A has better defenders but they’re petit compared to him. And if a peg legged Lukaku could dominate the league, Håland would destroy it.
