- In this video you will see the World Cup run from the Netherlands in 2014. With incredibly close games and 2 even ending in penalties, the Dutch were a joy to watch. I believe everyone can remember that iconic match against Spain which they won 5-1 to start their journey off. With the likes of Arjen Robben, Robin van Persie and Wesley Sneijder, this team was a serious contender for the title but lost against Argentina in the semi final, leading to them playing Brazil for the third place which they ended up winning. I think it might’ve been a good thing that they didn’t make it to the final. There was a possibility of them losing yet another final, and Germany also getting so close yet so far.
I somewhat understand you. All due respect to Brazil and Argentina, but Germany and the Netherlands looked like the two most impressive teams of the tournament. A final between them would surely have been cruel for either of them, but no doubt it would have been spectacular.
Keep in mind that a lot of the players on this squad also played in the final of the previous World Cup. I think that if they made it to the final, they would’ve gone with a stronger mentality cause they didn’t want to lose back to back. I wouldn’t have counted out the Netherlands if they made it to the final that year
