My reaction to episode 1 of Netflix's version of the Three Body Problem Novel By Liu Cixin.
Don't worry the show doesn't get religious at all. Other than somewhat questioning their belief a bit.
If you were wondering about the opening cultural revolution thing, I can assure you that the real thing in the 1960's were one hundred, one thousand times more gruesome, cruel and horrible. It was just five minutes of viewing for us, but for the people then and there, the whole thing lasted almost a decade - over and over again, everyday and everywhere.
It's a hard science fiction story. About science. It's not religious.
This is a hard SciFi show. We are not used to real hard SciFi
Are you saying we’re used to soft sci-fi?
“I’m not saying that it’s aliens, but it’s aliens.”
It's not religious.
If you're interested in watching the Chinese series I suggest look for the Anniversary Version/director's cut, 三体周年纪念版, it's much more fast paced and better edited without the unnecessary filler scenes in the original version.
In the west the directors cut adds content
In China the directors cut removes content
@@Andrew-ht7rf it's closer to the director's original vision with shorter episodes, however they were asked to stretch it into 30 episode because it's the standard for TV, originally it was going to be a web series.
@@tsukasa1608 and this is why I prefer the netflix version
Well, just like Professor Ye Zhetai said in the beginning of the show, scenics didn't provide the evidence for God's existence or not. Base on this book series, you can think God maybe just live in a higher dimension world that is why He knows everything from past to future.
Without spoiling, good or bad adaptation
I would say its a good adapatation but not a faithful one. For several reasons mostly political and cinematic.
Not a spoiler I think but just a comment on the adaptation . The books have a 1 main character and the focus is on China, the show makes it focused on a more international cast and seemingly more global/ UK focused.
There is a good reason for it cinematically, you are in the head of the character in the book which honestly wouldn't work for most people especially in the west. This way you get more dialogue
I would say it’s the same themes of the books but attempts were made for the medium: Characters are created for the visual medium whereas in the books there are fewer characters but they exist as themes of humanity
…also the opening scene is during the real life Chinese Cultural Revolution where so many were killed including society’s most advanced (just like the case in the present day, the brightest people were snuffed out)
It’s a hard show to grasp bc it’s not meant to be easy to get.
Good adaptation. It introduces major themes early.
It was a really good adaptation, obviously they took some liberties but the tencent version exist for those who want a more 1 to 1 adaptation.
I wasn't feeling the characters all of the time but in the end I thought it was worthwhile.
Bad adaption.
Horrible dialogs, often bad acting, the Ofxord Clique is just ridiclious.
Men are rather toxic or too dumb to feed even Goldfishes. Women are always smart and right, superior in every way.
Watched it all, but this was really no good series.
I'm frankly glad they weren't faithful to the original books and took some liberties with the characters. While I loved the books and gave them very positive reviews on Goodreads, I was very annoyed at two things: first, how almost every notable character is either Chinese or American or British and maybe Russian. The rest of humanity apparently have no say or importance whatsoever. I understand that the main audience of the original material is in China, but for the sake of realism you definitely have to include more of the world when the story concerns the fate of humanity overall. This is one instance where I salute a decision by a Western media outlet for more diversity and inclusivity (not stupid "black Cleopatra" or "black Hannibal"). Secondly, how the main character changed from book to book, and it took time to get used to them and relate to them, and how they were basically unrelated to each other. Instead, the main characters of the whole series are introduced from the very beginning, know each other, and we can see their backstories and empathize with them.
Thanks for the reaction! Keep them coming!
We do have a Chinese adaptation as well if u want to check it out!
Oh you poor girl. History is like that. It happened and if history is any sort of teacher it will happen again.
