That might seem like a lot to some people, but having lived in LA and the Bay Area for most of my adult life, I’m like….dang, and they throw in food with that, too??? What a deal! 😁
yeah, it's affordable compared to lots of other ways of living for sure
Honestly, thats not so bad. Considering my rent is basically majority of that 😂. Tack on food and such.. Not a bad idea to float in the middle of the ocean, under the sun, lay on the beach instead!
Yeah, it's definitely cheaper than my rent in NY!
The cost is great considering, I don't have to clean, I get waited on hand and foot, the entertainment is fantastic, free room service and visiting new places. The bonus is meeting people like you!
it really is a great value! :)
cheaper then renting apartment in nyc with food included
absolutely!
That's a deal. Those are my monthly costs for housing, utilities, and all, plus I have to do all of the maintenance and none of those costs are included. I was just about to run down the Travato Van Life world after watching your video on it. Then next I came here. Once upon a time, I was a sailor too. Tin Cans with the 7th Fleet. I loved going to sea, but until you make E5 you are always working! The only bummer I see with Liveaboard vs van life is control.
In van land you get to be the skipper and get underway whenever you want, to wherever. Then again, there is a real zen to hearing "underway, shift colors, and just going where the sea takes you.
Fair winds and following seas'!
yeah that is a fair point…you do lose some control but it is nice waking up somewhere new everyday while someone else did the driving :)
What a bargain! Especially considering your not paying any rent or mortgage.
yeah, definitely makes a difference
Yep. I think it could be cheaper to travel full time than what it costs to live at home.
It’s way cheaper than living in Manhattan with all meals included it’s a bargain
wow! great video.
Thanks!
Such beautiful surroundings. Great information. Thanks for sharing.
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching, Donna!
Still a bit pricey for me. I seem to find the best bargains, esp solo on MSC with their repositioning cruises. I booked 1 for next April. 17 days $490.60+gratuities SS so about $650. So abt $38 w/o deducting OB credits. Hard to beat! This is my 3rd such deal but granted, not enough of these deals avail to live on board. I'm working on it, though. Txs for sharing
Yeah, for sure. MSC definitely has the best base price for most cruises.
Msc is way too boring rather stay home
I love princess for the same reasons. I just booked solo inside 14 nights in November circle the Caribbean for $945 base fare. I get $600 back obc. love the videos🏝
Very cool! And thanks! :)
What are the comparisons for a solo interior vs an ocean view? Thanks
I would definitely be willing to pay the same amount as its all about the memories and experiences/people you meet for me anyways. Thank you for sharing this information with us Kevin. Safe travels, Deb
Thanks, Deb.
I would have never thought of going but these prices are fantastic!! Great video!!
Thanks, Zena!
They need to book you for a TED Talk on cruising and traveling. Thanks for the easy-to-understand breakdown of the cost.
I'd love to do that!
Compared to van life (where you have to do everything) this is a steal! 😁
Yeah, it's definitely good value for money.
Thank you for another great video. Considering the food this is cheaper than owning and living in a house in a bigger city. Wilderness backpacking is still the least expensive with vehicle camping and living coming in second for me. Cruising definitely has both those beat on creature comforts and entertainment. That pool full of kid!... Thank you again for taking the time to create this video. Safe travels.
Yah a rarity for Princess. Usually there a hardly any kids.
I just need to top up.that retirement pot! Although with the growth in the cruise market, I can see rates becoming more competitive and driving prices down.
Let's hope so!!!
We have just booked a months cruise in the Caribbean, scheduled for this November 👍🏻
Sweet...that is a great time to go!
All I need is better wifi so I can work! The cost is awesome. Thanks for sharing your hard-won wisdom!
You are so welcome!
Great video brother! Great cost breakdown, keeping it your costs $100 per day seems doable especially in this economic time, just have avoid to many of extra's😊
No doubt! Thanks brother!
Nice 😊
thanks
Love hearing the details! Nice room! I always thought you had to pay the gratuities as part of your cruise. I hope people really do tip if they don't include the gratuities in the cost of their cruise. I worked for Marriott for 30 years and just saw our beautiful resort on the point as you were coming in to St Thomas. Loving your cruise series Kevin!
Oh cool! I didn't realize that was a Marriott!!
That's a really good price, Kevin - and you're doing a good job maximizing the onboard credits! I'm a veteran, and Connie owns 100 shares of CCL stock, so we always get those credits, plus sometimes others as well. And we always buy future cruise credits when we are onboard!
yeah, it's great that they let us stack them like that....
St. Thomas is a good place. Caribbean Princess is an older ship. My friend went on it and said he and his wife liked it. I do enjoy your videos. I enjoy sailing with Carnival Corp cruise lines too.
I need to try Carnival.
Just to let you know there was so much rain that they closed Ft. Lauderdale airport yesterday & today!! Roads by there were so flooded! Cars were half covered by water. They said Broward is still bad to drive today. Up here in palm beach county we didn’t get too much rain at all.
Oh wow! Going to make Saturday interesting for us!!!
Enjoying your videos very much. I'm taking your $100/day budget and using that model for 3 months in Europe and 3 months in the UK. Who knows, maybe a month long cruise after that...
Very cool! Let me know how it goes Mitch
Hey Kevin, I hope you are now in good health. be Safe 🙏
I am! Thank you!
Thanks for that update. If you should care to share in the next cost one, let us know how much wifi, eating, and drinking you spend. I know that part of it is covered in on-board credit, but, would be nice to see the actual costs of those things for us who don't have lots of onboard credits. Thanks
I did that in my last cost of cruising vid. I probably should have linked that one in this vid.
Thx for all the info - just curious - what carnival stock do you buy> Whats the ticker symbol?
CCL is the carnival corp..they own carnival, princess and holland america
Loved this video! I hate how the Caribbean is so much more expensive for us Brits to visit - the second half of my year will be my expensive segment as that's when I'll be based over there, but I got some excellent prices while cruising over here in Europe!
Awe that sucks. It’s definitely the most inexpensive for us.
Your pricing videos always make me wish I had more vacation time or could work remotely 🤣. I just got off the Caribbean Princess this past Saturday and was shocked I didn't cross paths with you at least once during the week. It was my first cruise and I absolutely loved it. Now I'm just hoping some casino offers come rolling in! (I did get one for $500 casino credit delivered to my cabin, but nothing regarding discount/comp rate)
Oh man! How did we miss each other. If you got a $500 casino credit…you will definitely get free cruise offers
@@30AndAWakeUp hope so 😁. I got a balcony for my first cruise. I spent about 30 minutes on it the entire cruise. Definitely saving the money and doing inside in the future. I loved that aft pool area, though. Great early morning spot to lay out and read while watching the ships wake.
Your videos are my favorite! Thank you for taking time to share your adventures!
I’m wondering if you’ve met any entrepreneurs that live on ships? I’m thinking of trying it but worry about connectivity to my team although most of what I do it through slack, regular internet and video streaming. I’d love to try though!
Awww...thanks, Karrie! :) So...the internet is hit or miss and not very predictable from ship to ship, cruise to cruise. I think you could do it if it was mostly slack but if you had to get on video teleconferences a lot...it might not be the most reliable.
@@30AndAWakeUp thank you for that info!
Looks much nicer than Carnival I might have to switch I dont know about sending a dd214 too much info on it there is other ways to prove your a vet. Very good info my friend.
Yea, it's not a much of a fun ship as Carnival...more relaxing. Im sure you can black out any info that you don't want them to see on your DD214. I think all they really need to see is a signed DD214 with your name on it.
I appreciate on how you can find ways in bringing the prices down on these awesome cruises! Thanks for sharing!!🤗🌅🛳
Thanks, Maxine.
Kevin! I hope you're taking a well-earned CZcams break to celebrate hitting 100k! We miss you, and hope you're well! :D
Thanks! I've been dealing with a little bout of norovirus but much better now & will be back at it soon.
@@30AndAWakeUp Oh no! Feel better and rest up. You get to have breaks too.
Hey Pep, love the series glad you are enjoying your time. What would be interesting is finding the absolute dirt cheapest 7-day cruise you can find and see if there is a difference.
Not a bad idea
Perry, I like that idea. A cruise without his discounts.
@@peri3818 I have a question on this. Did you only get credit for military or did you also get a discount?
Cool
Thanks, Elvi.
👍🤩💝Thanks for the details. I think that was an okay price…you get some cheaper cruises to off set other cruises….it was “spring break”, you didn’t have to shop for groceries, cook the food, clean the kitchen, hire a separate maid or a butler, or pay extra for entertainment, not only that it’s just an exciting different way to live with new experiences. I can’t wait to try this. Thank you for sharing your journey.🙏🤩💝
Thanks, LA
See you in a few days. Looking forward to meeting IRL.
Yay! :)
Thank you for breaking it down for us. Totally get it and yes I think it’s damn affordable! Go have a “boat drink” as Jimmy Buffet would say 😂
haha...love it!
Hi Kevin 3 grand and some change enjoy my friend I can't afford that but I really Enjoy watching you travel world but that does sound reasonable
understand for sure....
What do you do about laundry and the related costs (laundry detergent, laundry service, washer/dryer fees, etc.)?
I do laundry onboard. I either pay for laundry service unless they have self serve laundry (which this ship does) and it's 3 dollars to do laundry. You can use youre onboard credit for that as well.
Good job, well done video, and very comprehensively explain that cost of cruise. I wish you would. Show the location of toilet paper holder. hahahaha.
haha...I will next time...it's in a much better place on this ship
How interesting, that means ship architect or interior designer for the new ships like sky or enchanted princess did not do homework of older ships design that worked. Better for the passengers.
Living on disability that would be an impossibility for me. But if I had the money I would be cruising…. Have a great time Kevin safe and blessed travels. LUCRETIA 🎉
Thanks, Lucretia.
A great price!
It really was!
Not a green screen. Just a [choke choke] great phone. 😜
IPhone 12
Kevin with you being a solo cruiser, what has that done for your Princess Captain's Circle level. That might be good video to make explaining that.
Great minds think alike! Im about to hit their highest level and going to do a video called how to go from zero to hero on Princess Cruises as a solo cruise! 😂
@@30AndAWakeUp That will be great.
Your videos are great! This one was especially informative. Please explain how the “Shareholder credit” works. How do you prove you own the shares - do you need to show a Statement? Also, do you need to book directly with the Cruise Line to receive this credit?
Thx bunches for your help & keep doing videos like this!!
Yeah, all you need to do is email them your current brokerage statement that shows you own the stock. I’ve never not booked with the cruise line but Im sure your travel agent is familiar with it and would be able to get you the credit.
So now I’m wondering: do Royal Caribbean and the other cruise lines also offer a Shareholder Perk? I’m makin’ PLANS (and watching for sales on sunscreen)!!!!!!! Thx for help.
I cruise for the destinations and ports the ship visits so visiting ports that are little to no interest to me $100+ per day isn’t worth it. Now, IF I could get that price on a 14 day Alaska cruise…I’d be thrilled.
Understand for sure.
Your daily costs are less than a cheap hotel when I travel, and I still have to pay for food.
A one bedroom apt costs more in SF.
Absolutely
Love your explanation of OBC, so many don't understand how that works. Did you find that any of it was refundable (if not spent on board)? We were surprised on a recent HAL cruise to Hawaii when we got a refund back of some of our unspent OBC.
Not sure if it's refundable but I need to check!
@@30AndAWakeUp On a Princess they told me the Vet OBC was refundable. Did get a refund about 3 weeks later. The shareholser was not refundable.
@@glennletts4017 oh interesting...thanks for that info!
Kevin, not sure if you addressed this, how much for laundry? Or do you launder in the room.
It’s 3 bucks to wash and 3 to dry. I hang dry all my stuff in the room though. also, since I am elite now…I get free laundry service if I want.
What is the internet reception like? Are you able to work while at sea?
It's ok. There are people that do work at sea. I'd say try it for a week and see if it meets your needs.
Love Princess cruises. They do have the best closet! You said you had an inside stateroom however the video shows outside with a window. Im confused
Yeah, I was speaking kind of fast...what I said, poorly, was that I booked an interior but got upgraded to an oceanview. I only paid for an interior though.
This might be a dumb question but can you use the onboard credit towards the expense of the trip? If you don’t spend all your onboard credit, can you rollover the remainder to the next cruise?
Most of it is non-refundable. So you have to spend it. Although I have heard there are some hacks, but I haven't learned any of them.
Question on the credit for buying stock. Do you email them? How many shares do you need to buy and what proof of purchase do you need?
yes you email the proof that you own at least 100 shares. usually your monthly brokerage statement is enough
I don't know how you mange to get those prices for solo im getting crazy prices with princess from the uk we should do a test and book the same cruise and see the price difference.
Yeah, I've had this conversation with my British friends. Only MSC is more expensive than Princess here in the US.
It's probable the same amount for the month than if you had to pay a mortgage, buy food, pay electric bills and on top of that you would spend more for entertainment. I think it is a bargain.
Definitely! thanks, Peri
Wow, look at those views! Excellent cost breakdown, Kevin, thank you! Is it expensive? Not generally, I don't think. For me yeah. I'd have to go during hurricane season, wear a life jacket and a rain poncho at all times, and bring some anti-anxiety and anti-emetic meds. I'd eat extra shellfish, just in case the hurricane took out the ship and it became my one and only cruise. But if I survived, I'd have earned my "I went on a cruise" bragging rights! I might even make a video. Or better, a livestream! You know, just in case. Who knows, you guys might get to see my only livestream (viral, for sure): this is me holding on to the deck rail for dear life in the hurricane; this is me getting blown off the ship; this is the ship sinking; this is me getting swallowed by a great white sh...
Sweet...Im excited for your first vid! :)
I would hope not, but thank you for the great story and comedy show. Safe travels...
You're too funny.
So..... can we assume that cruising's not your thing? 😜
@@mckenna8663 I really, really want to try it. But I'm on SocSec. Extreme budget. But I'm determined!
@@kele1264, maybe you can tag along with a single on a cruise, or pickup a last minute deal. We took 2 cruises when our children were older and for a family of 4 they were really inexpensive vacations because food was included. We did not do any excursions but had a great time in the ports just walking off the ship and exploring on foot. They were my husband's favorite vacations. Now that he has passed away, I am going to do a cruise by myself... we will see how that goes. Travels in our vehicles is not the same without him, but I can't just sit at home base and now that I have done it, l know I can live very inexpensively seeing this country. Gas was my biggest expense in January. No camping fees, I cooked my own meals and purchased fresh ingredients from roadside stands. It was a great break and very relaxing.
Cheaper than rent in many places and you don't get free food, utilities, entertainment, transportation, housekeeping, etc. Wondering if you can use the credits to pay the gratuities at the end instead of pre-paying them?
Yes you can.
Did you ever find out where the gratuities go to?
no
one more question - looks like you've been able to stack OBC???
yes!
3 weeks until carnival mardi gras!
Sweet! I’ve heard that ship is amazing!!!!
Excellent video as always! As if your 411 isn't enough, you offer your fans the added bonus of amazing views.
Keep up the great work!
Haha thanks TMC
I got a question about jackets.
One jacket you would take out of Patagonia Nano puff, Patagonia Torrentshell 3L or Quenchu packable rain jacket from decathlon which cost £9.99?
I will be travelling monsoon season around Asia and it might be cold when hiking, what do you think? Please reply quick as I need to make a decision by tomorrow haha I’m one bagging the world
if you got the room in your bag...sure....if not...buy a .99 cent rain poncho at 7/11
@@30AndAWakeUp both the patagonia's take up twice the room of the quenchu rain is half the size, fits the palm of my hands, I can pack 1 of them, if i take the quenchu rain jacket then I won't need the poncho I think. which item would you take out of the 3 if you could?
Edited HAL / CCL would not honor stock credit because we got a casino rate. Bummer 😢
I was able to on Princess.
it would be great if you could apply your on-board credit to the cost... it would reduce your cost per day to $66
Yeah, for sure.
I just got off a NCL cruise this morning. I purchased future cruise credit (1K worth) and got $500 on board credit. Since I didn't buy anything else on the ship because I don't drink or gamble and I purchased a starbucks package before the cruise, that $500 on board credit went directly to the future cruise credit. So, I'm getting 1k of future cruising for 500.
I did overspend a bit and bought two back to back Alaska trips for next year, getting them for $150 a day. But, Alaska has been a bucket list for me for over a decade. So, I jumped on a 16 days worth of Alaska cruising even if it's a bit more expensive.
Question though: Have you seen the NCL cruise first promotion right now? It says you pay $250 and get $500 in value back for future cruising. Wondering if you think that is a good deal?
Very cool. My next ship is NCL Getaway. I am excited to try NCL for the first time. I'll definitely get one of those future cruise credits.
Considering I'm paying $2029 for a 6 day cruise as a solo on Royal ($338 per day not including coffee, wifi, or bottled water for cabin) for a friends birthday Oct 2025 on Oasis of the Seas - that's a phenomenal of a deal. I cant wait until I can take advantage of deals like these.
check out my vid on how to find cheap cruises…cruiseplum is gold!
@@30AndAWakeUp Ever since I found out about that website from one of your videos I've been browsing around and I think the biggest issue for me is my flexibility to just get away. I generally limit myself to 4-8 day sailings leaving from MIA / FLL due to travel. From what I noticed most of the best deals are for longer sailings typically out of a foreign port or from a different state. I'm not oppose to that but its just not as convenient for me at the moment. Watching your videos however are very much inspiring of what's possible if your willing to be a bit more flexible with your travel plans.
Been a while since you posted - hope you are Ok
Im back! Just posted a new vid!
I love these quick and informative videos…you’re definitely a number guy, Kevin. I appreciate that because I was looking on cruise plum this weekend and $175 a night a night is the least expensive I could find. Of course, I want to travel in June.
You should be able to find cheaper than that on MSC.
@@30AndAWakeUp I’m not sure I want to cruise on MSC, however, I’ll check them out. :)
@@christiwright3604 MSC is really nice if you get Yacht Club which has its own pool area and restaurants, but for standard fare can be pretty bad, particularly the food
Thanks for another great video! I’m most curious about how you buy 100 shares of RCL (+$60 per share) for under $1000. Any tips?
haha...if I found out...I'll let you know :) cause Im looking for that deal too!
@@30AndAWakeUp Didn't you say in the video that you got shares for 1000$? Did I misunderstand, also.
@@craigo2142 You can get 100 shares of Carnival Corp for under 1,000. Carnival Corp owns Carnival, Princess, and Holland - and you get share holder credit on all of those.
@@30AndAWakeUp thanks for the info. I had misread the comment about RCL instead of CCL. A fan since van days.
Howdy! :)
@@30AndAWakeUp don't you just love the look of that checkmark?!?
What about costs for 2? Are there discounted prices for 2?
Probably 😀
Good grief - you can't even get a tiny apartment for that cost in Vancouver Canada. Never mind, food etc. What a bargain!
Exactly! :)
Do you buy insurance specific to cruising?
No...I have a credit card that provides travel, emergency evac and emergency medical/dental insurance.
What card is it? Thx
Couldn't you use your casino free cruises for this trip?
no..I booked these before I started getting those offers
But that's for one person. It would be less than double for two people.
yeah
Comment
Thanks!
Good deal… I spend that in monthly groceries alone.
haha...same!!!
Can you talk about phone use?
ok
How do you prove that you’re a shareholder?
All the cruise lines have an email that you send your account statement to.
Sorry, don't seem to sound naive, but what are "fo fo coffees"? I've never heard of it
Coffee like white chocolate mochas or butter pecan lattes
@@30AndAWakeUp oh cool :) have never heard of it before. Wonder if it's a word that Australians don't use, or if im just behind the times lol
Interesting. I watch Jordan Bauth. She is a figure skater who works on cruise ships. She is great fun. Her videos are high quality, and she is extremely hardworking. Check her out. Or maybe you are already watching her videos ?
When you work on a cruise ship you get payed. 🌴🌴🥥🥥🍷
I'll check her out. Thanks for the recommendation.
Can you cruise with pets (not a service animal)?
I’ve seen people doing it…so I’m going to say yes but not sure what the process is!
Can you bank the onboard credit if you don't use it all on a single cruise?
Informative video, as always!
No, it's not transferrable. That would be sweet though!
Looks rough out there. Retirement going well I assume. 😀
It is!
