As someone who discovered band maid around the same time you did, when the masterpieces of the Unleash!!!!! EP came out right after the amazing Unseen World album, I was admittedly spoiled. Their newer stuff was just so up my alley that when I came back to catch up with their older tracks, especially Choose me, I just couldn't understand why it was so popular. Nowadays though, Choose me is one of my absolute favourite. So catchy.

"Choose Me" -- a song featured in the Netflix original movie "KATE" and the HBO Max series Peacemaker as BAND MAID, has so many great RnR chops, it's kinda unbelievable. From Saiki's old-school phrasing, cadence and a super soulful vocal at the end; MISA's driving bass, her special riff after Kanami's brilliant, rocking main solo (complete with harmonic pinch), and her pulls at the end of the song that really funks it up with Akane's drumming; to Kanami's original composition, off-beat octave stretches during the verses, and her addition of a second uncomplicated yet super tasty solo; to Akane's unique snare & tom flurry that launches the choruses; and to Miku's octave-down, in & out vocal backup and lyrics... all makes "Choose Me" a throwback rocker that surprised me when I first heard it - and I'll bet most anyone - that they would come up with this western-style, rock 'n roll classic.
Of course, after years later, it's not surprising at all coming from this important band of geniuses who are, along with The Warning band, almost single-handedly bringing back the joy of rock. Thx, KAM!

At Yokohama Arena for their Tenth Anniversary, this song appeared twice. If you haven't seen it, you need to. Saiki is full of surprises in this song. EDIT: the REALLY cool version was NOT the one that fans were allowed to film!

I personally find your approach, when you make so many reactions in one video at once, the best of all possible. As you said, people on CZcams can make erroneous opinions after one listening to a track because of their expectations, choosing the wrong version of the track, and so on. But you almost always cover all versions, so your opinion is more valuable than the opinion of those who made a reaction for 6 minutes, two of which, if you exclude the track itself, are intro and outro

And at least he doesn't pause every 30-40 seconds to say something obvious, which I personally find fantastic

I know what you’re trying to say: It’s not simple, it’s more straightforward than their newer stuff. IMHO it is the perfect 00’s pop-rock song. It’s everything I loved about that music done better than it used to be. It is nostalgic and refreshing and at a level beyond what the actual music of the time. It is nostalgia fulfillment where it matches or exceeds the rose tinted perspective one has.

Just for your own enjoyment, listen to the acoustic version from Yokohama. That performance, Saiki and a piano, is the highlight of the concert.

This single (Daydreaming/Choose Me with Play as the B-side) was the first thing the band recorded after Saiki's throat surgery. All three songs are played in most of their concerts.

Did I mention that Saiki is very pretty?
    Love your reactions man ♥

Always love your reactions. I have to actually fit you in to my day planner, but always well worth it. And, yes, Saiki is pretty. Have you seen her new dress? Yowza! 😍🥰😛 And the live piano solo at Yokohama? Diva level.

IMO, "Choose Me" is probably their most "pop" track. Easy to listen to.

I agree on the vocals. Miku's backup vocals are very low in the baritone range in the verses, which gives this song a bit darker feel.

You can hear the evolution and maturation of Saiki's vocals over the years. She was absolute FIRE at Yokohama Arena. And as always, IMHO Band-Maid is better live and remains ichiban amongst all contemporary rock groups.

This is the intro for many new fans as well. It was used in Kate movie and Peace Maker series

It would be great if all gigs had moratoriums (sic) on camera-phones during sections of gigs (and that audiences were respectful enough to abide by them as Japanese ones are - fat chance).
