Penang, Malaysia has some of the best street food in the whole world. And today, our friend Mark is bringing us for a FULL ON Street Food tour of Penang, Malaysia! Get ready to eat some of the best food in the world!
Malaysian cuisine consists of a mixture of Malay, Chinese, and Indian cuisine. What I love so much about Malaysian food is the way all these cuisines blend together and the flavours compliment each other so well.
In Penang, you can have so many different street foods on each corner. In this street food video, we're visiting some very unique and unseen street foods in Penang.
First up, Mark is bringing us to the #1 oldest and most famous Nasi Kandar shop in Penang. Nasi Kandar is a must eat in Malaysia and consists of rice and what feels like hundreds of curries all mixed together. And here in Penang, the birthplace of Nasi Kandar, we are going to the original restaurant, opened in 1907 to try it out! At Hameediya you can find lobster curry, lamb shank, tons of MASSIVe seafood and curry to mix in with your rice, and all served up super SPEEDY NINJA style!!

And next up, Mark is bringing us to a classic Malay style Laksa full of so many spices in a big HOT TUB!!! We drove deep into the Kampung "village" outside of Penang to find this classic Laksa hot tub full of flavour! It is such a famous Malaysian food you need to try!

For 6 years I have been watching The Food Ranger, I never thought there would be a video with a clean sweep of 10/10 dishes and what’s more, it’s from Malaysia!!!
But I have to say Hameediyah left the best food first impression I’ve ever had, it was so so special, a few years ago. I am willing to drive to Penang from KL just to have lunch there, then return to KL. I’m serious.

OMG as someone from Penang, I'm so glad you finally reviewed the food here (next time please try char koay teow without the caviar because it's a dish that truly deserves to be appreciated on its own)

He honestly overdid it with the whiskey, caviar and the unveined prawns, charkeow teow is amazing on it's own coz of the wok hei, the juicy beansprouts and the pork lard infused flat rice noodles, sometimes less is more
Caviar has salty taste so it adds the flavour of ckt to a new level.
That was A LOT of caviar they added. I thought a little garnish on top is fine.. but this is lowkey glutonny

It depend on the owner, if they can keep up the same quality for other franchise, why not, but most of the nasi kandar restaurants is family own business, some of the secret should keep in the family only
Last December I went to Penang for the first time in my life. i stayed for 4 days and ate a lot of food. Seems like I missed out all these things. Will definitely visit next time I get the chance. These foods looks very authentic and tasty. Malaysian food is really out of the world. i can vouch for it. 🙏❤️

Sarawak Laksa is Anthony Bourdain's favorite. He takes two bowls every time he comes down. And he came to Sarawak many times.
Penang and Melaka are good at making Laksa,Sarawak Laksa was amazing,but it's hard to find in Selangor.
Penang Laksa stall nearby Kek Lo Si is the best. Try there and see guys 😊

The oldest, the best & the original taste of murtabak fm Hameediyah.. 1st time had the murtabak (w/out onions 😂) in 1978 when I was 6 yrs old and the taste still rings the bell whenever I have it till to date.. #musteatinPenang

Hi James.. The asam for that laksa is not called asam jawa, it is called asam gelugor. The guy was wrong. I am a cook and I constantly use that if I ran out of asam jawa (tamarin}
