I LOVE the Emma Thompson simping. She did *so* well in this role and I applaud her courage for tackling it.
I was honestly a bit, I dare say, attracted to Trunchbull while watching the musical. I was very confused so I searched up who her actress was. Woo! I'm just attracted to Emma Thompson, again
the choreography for the musical on stage was INCREDIBLE- There were swings and everything!
The best movie musical. Also, "I'VE BEEN BUSYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!😈😈😈"best line in the whole movie.😙👌
BUZZEY!!! THESE BRITISH AMERICANS! SHALL NOW SPEAK AUSTRALIAN 😈✨
I know you guys are being silly but, actually, that librarian suggesting she call the police after Matilda goes into graphic detail about something so dark (and violent) - which is incredibly out of character for the kid - is kind of, partially, the right thing to do? As a teacher, there are proper channels to go through but it's definitely true that what a child says/does is reflective of their home life (or an indicator of an isolated event, if the trauma took place outside the home). Like, if a kid talks that much about someone hurting another person and it's clearly enmeshed in their understanding of reality, that's the *biggest* red flag. Oftentimes, children do not come forward about situations like sexual abuse, for example, but if a kid suddenly starts writing or describing something that's clearly inappropriate for their age, it means something. Listening to kids is important.
sorry for the rant it's like 2am and i'm procrastinating on a paper due in 8 hours someone save me from this grad school hell
"Eat"
"But I can't eat it all!"
"Headmistress,he'll be sick"
"He should've thought of that before he made a pact with Satan and decided to steal my cake!"
I love this movie.
As a thespian, I’ve watched a lot of musicals, and I’ve performed in some. Matilda the musical has to be one of favorites, and I really love how it makes the relationship between her and Miss Honey better. The Big Friendly School is another reference to Dahl’s other work The BFG. My only critique was that they should’ve either kept Matilda’s older brother Michael in it or kept Mrs. Wormwood’s ball dancing subplot. And I really loved the finale “Still Holding My Hand” that I wished it was in the original stage musical.
👩🏼👩🏿🦱👵🏻📚🧠👀
You can see hints of Mrs. W's ball dancing in the pictures on the wall in the house. And as much as I would have loved to see Michael too, I don't think he really... does that much? Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't his part made a lot smaller in the musical? He really only has the song Telly with Mr. Wormwood and when they cut that, maybe they felt they didn't need Michael.
@@lemontree666333 It is true that Michael’s part was reduced in the musical version. His main music number he’s involved in is “ Telly” with Mr. Wormwood. I would just figured they would have possibly expanded his character a little bit more like showing the comparison how Mr. and Mrs. Wormwood treat Michael versus Matilda. But I wonder if they scrapped his character from this version because how Mrs. Wormwood is adamant that she’s not having a baby when in fact she is pregnant. However there are cases when women don’t know that they are pregnant until they deliver their baby. And I do believe that they were possibly going to do the song “Loud” but then scrapped it.
@@dcemerald70 The main reason they cut both those things was time, and it was probably good that they did. One of the biggest complaints I've seen from people watching this that never saw the original musical is that it's long, and that's at 2 hours. If they left those things in it'd probably be an extra 20 minutes, and if they added to Michael even longer than that.
@@QuibbleTrouble i’m well aware why they delete those scenes. I guess I just probably wish they would’ve at least kept the brother Michael in it just for small bit comedy.
What I loved most is trenchbull actually getting a good beating.
In the book Matilda only uses her powers very little so that’s why the musical does that plus more cost effective on stage 😅
Hilarious reaction. This was a pretty good adaptation from the stage show. Had no idea Lashana Lynch could sing before this. Great movie
I wasn't happy with your initial reactions, but I'm glad you came around by the end.
I think this film hit it out of the park, capturing the essence of the musical and the original book just right. The colour use throughout was excellent: Miracle having an ethereal setting as it's from the new-born perspective, Bruce initially being grim and dark until the explosion of support from his classmates, and Quiet giving a dreamlike perfect escape for Matilda in her mind. Great filmmaking throughout.
And it did exactly what I wanted with a Roald Dahl adaptation, it wasn't afraid to be creepy and scary.
That was always a fantastic element of his stories, so to have the Trunchbull be properly intimidating while also having some good comedic moments was great. I wonder if the line: 'We all get carried away sometimes, even me' was a sinister reference to her killing Magnus?
And the casting was just perfect, they really got every talented child from the stage into this film and gave them even better choreography than the already great stage version.
Hats of to Ellen Kane (choreographer), Tim Minchin (songwriter), Matthew Warchus (director) and Dennis Kelly (screenplay writer) for the amazing work both for the stage and screen iterations.
4:08 Flashback to the book when they describe the vigorous scalp massage Mr Wormwood gives himself each morning with his hair tonic which is always accompanied with "deep grunts and heavy breathing and 'ah! that's the stuff! rub it right into the root'" which Matilda can hear in her room across the hall.
Matilda fits like 3 different archetypes of of Evil Child in horror movies but since this is _for_ children she's the power fantasy instead
I love this movie! I also love the original Matilda. Like there's different reasons why I love them both. I'm not comparing this to the original, I went into watching this movie when it came out thinking it probably going to based more off the stage musical and novel most likely. So yes, it's the same movie but it's told in a different way technically, I personally like that. The actors, actresses & the crew/everyone who made this movie possible did an amazing job. Would love to see you react to M3gan it's such a good horror movie, (and that's coming from someone who gets scared way too easily & normally doesn't care for horror films.) Love the videos and collabs w/ welchy! You two always got me laughing & smiling! You do an amazing job!
I have 2 things to comment
1. 5:24 I actually did the school song for a summer theater camp
2. YOU AND WELCHY ARE ABSOLUTELY HILARIOUS!
For a second I thought the other guy was Dylan Will Not Participate and I was thinking “that would be an amazing collab” 😂
It wasn't just a story. It was miss honeys story
She was dissociating in quiet
i see a lot of people not clicking the scene where matilda is staring at bruce when he's eating the cake, she's using her powers on him in order to allow him to eat the entire cake, dont ask me how, but that's what that scene is
I'm so glad you put me onto Welchy I binged his videos after your last collab and I wasn't disappointed 🙌🏾🙌🏾
I loved the OG Matilda book/movie and watched/read it so many times as a kid, so I was excited when I saw the trailer for this 🥰🥰🥰
So happy you watched this!! I suggested it a while back and I'm so excited for this reaction...I knew you were going to love it!
THIS IS THE BEST MATILDA REACTION I SEEN YET
You're back!!! Yoohoooo!😊❤
MID and Welchy are total frenemy goals!💙🩶🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
12: 48 I can't hep but to think of how nightwings parents died ...
SAME!!!
Here's some irony for you:
Trunchbull was originally played by Aunt Marge.
Now she's played by Professor Trelawney
The real irony is that Thompson was crucified for wearing a fat suit while Ferris was applauded for wearing one.
I absolutely adore Matilda and saw it on Broadway first. You guys made me laugh my ass off!
It's so wrong to criticize a movie before watching it, this movie is actually good and the music performances amazing.
YESS I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS REACTION FROM YOU
This was such a wild ride!😂 was not prepared for this when i saw it was a Matilda musical!
U DID IT!!!!!💅🌞🌞 I’ve been asking for 7 days tyyyyy💅💅💅
My husband and I absolutely loved this musical !!
Dang, I’m surprised there was no reaction to the song singing each letter of the alphabet. I thought that was incredible
😂😂 the Billy binges line though 😂😂😂😂❤❤
Hello I really like your videos keep up the good work
i HATE what they did with miracle (aka the opening song) mostly bc those babies are HORRIFYING but i also get it because the way it is in the musical, being the birthday party then going 5 years back (which isnt even stated sometimes) then going back to the birthday CAN be confusing but lavender was so ROBBED with her "barelina" solo (but i also just think it's funny) and also the child entertainer was robbed because there was no birthday party at all. but its mostly just that the song is mellowed down at the beginning to be "aw look at the newborn babies shhh dont disturb them" instead of "omg look at our child who is literally punching another kid hee's so cute!" i feel like it takes away from the opening also ignore how i just wrote a paragraph about miracle from matilda the musical. good day
I really liked the movie it was so good. And I like your reaction cause you defo one of my favourite reaction CZcamsr’s.
and you didn’t complain that it was different from the original and stuff cause a lot of the other reactions I’ve watched complain about that but they also have to realise that this movie is based on the broadway musical, which apparently means it’s gonna be exactly the same to the original movie but shocker it’s not!!
It’s the same with the Disney live actions it isn’t going to be EXACTLY the same cause isn’t it in way copyright?? Even if it’s from Disney??and in my personal opinion I really like some of the live action remakes 😊
While I don't know how I feel about this movie, you two made the reaction worth watching
And this, kids, is what happens when you dont pay attention to the movie you're watching
I loved this movie!! I saw this on Xmas when it came out 🥰🥰🥰🥰
I loved this movie musical so much!
I've watched Matilda the musical 3 times and I love it
do you think that you guys are so cool with this kind of reaction style?
Too for school? Better believe it
I love this movie so much
I love musicals and this is the best one I've seen recently.
Now all we need is a movie just like the book
matildas dad looks like the 1971 oompa loompa
When you look into the eyes of Matilda in the books, you can't help but see how she's plotting to put a pipe bomb in your mailbox 😂
love this movie
The one who plays Matilda is Alicia weir
5:21
finally someone who also strongly dislikes her, everyone in the reviews were always saying how much they loved her and i really dont at all
Maybe I should rewatch this movie
This is good
On that title it said:
#Moviesindepth i love ur videos plz do every witch way a nickelodeon show
Is the full length on patreon? I didn't see it
I love all the songs, but my fav is revolting children
How did Miss Trunchbull know that the kids would be saying “Put me in chokey too!” And purposely spell words wrong
She didn’t, she was prepared for the children to “accidentally” spell the words wrong.
@@plilly0709 but how did she know that would happen where they would be like “put me in chokey too”
@@ju2545 She didn’t know that. Like she said, she’s been busy, meaning she was prepared for anything. Not necessarily the children purposely spelling the words wrong, but just anything in general.
i saw it in cinema on 13 of jan
Still say it is Welchy's fault, always blame the Welchy 😂
21:26 Didn't say "I will Matilda: The Musical you all later" (unsubscribes)
LMAO
4:27 well both stories were written by the same guy so
10:48 that cake looks so good 🤤🤤🤤
What gif are you using when you say what
🏴❤
Did you actually say why did she turn English? Matilda is fkn English, she was always English.
The way I scoured for someone to point this out cuz wtf. Cant believe they actually said that🫠
These people have NO EMPATHY!!!!😂😂😂
It seems like they took out the actual depth of the original story and added stuff that didn't fit. It was like they sacrifice plot for music and the music wasn't that great either. But the production and the choreography AMAZING.
oh no no no no no no no.... if there's one thing this film DIDN'T do it is TAKE OUT depth. this adaptation made me see this otherwise simple story in a whole new light when i originally saw the musical, and even more so in this film.
@@antonbradbury2 for me it did, especially how the parent treats Matilda, doesn't merit what she does to them, in the original movie, the parents are just horrible, second I am watching the musical on stage and the added story there on stage, does add to the musical, in the movie musical, they took out why she telling the story. And how she found out about her powers was taken out which doesn't make sense because she learns how to control it in the movie version. They took out her brother from the musical, he was there to compare the two relationships between him and her and their parents. I love that added Miss Honey's story and kept her from singing her truths until later in the movie because when she does, it is just amazing.
Dang
Someone replaced the audio for revolting children with let the bodies hit the floor and that's the reason I ended up watching the movies
When you grab a fart and throw it in someone’s face it was very delicious so chocolatey 😂 10:39
you look like thom yorke
This movie is a trip. It can be sweet and innocent through childrens eyes. Yet it can also be a crazy masterpiece where you vote up ms. Trunchbul through an adults viewpoint. Both sides had valid lessons to be gained and it is just fun for all ages. The music bops for sure too. I love how they added additional chokeys highlighting ms. Trunchbuls competitiveness to always want to win.
Lmaoooo I literally just smoked😭😭😭
I knew this video would be perfect💀😂
4:26 okay, but like… did u NOT SEE the Willy Wonka logo in the beginning?🤨💁🏾♀️😂
7:16 um… not on BLM month.🙅🏾♀️✊🏾😂
What an annoying reaction
You don't have good CZcams taste.
i love the story but i think there is too many songs for the plot
I R N
B R U
pass
'u watched the musical and said u love it.u kept saying swear words I felt like u didn't like it
Hiiii
i was infact high when i watched it and loved it LOL- i wouldddnt be surprised if the girl with the red hat was just so good at dancing that they put her character in bc her character wasnt reaally that important to be the face in that song, but she did kill the end.
I was hoping for a good reaction. There is a lot behind this movie but all they did was joke about everything. If you don't like these kind of movies than just don't watch it.
I hate this movie I thought it was very boring. But you guys watching it was great. You guys make a great comedic duo when it comes to reacting. Love this reaction
Sorry but what an awful reaction! :/ I feel that you guys didn’t get the story very well. I wasted my time watching this..
Sorry but what about this reaction was awful?
@@_scriblr_1010 They didn't talk about the story or the Trauma Matilda was going through. And that is important too. They took everything as a joke 🤷🏻♀️
in fairness, this was only ever meant to be a lighthearted video, and for what it’s worth i think they did a lot better at investing themselves in the story, without constantly bringing up the old film, than a lot of other reviewers, whilst still keeping it light and funny
@@patriciaperez9318 This is a video for entertainment and fun, not to address horrible abuse. This isn't a channel that analyzes the films they watch and instead both reactors just try to enjoy the movie. If you're looking for something otherwise, you're watching the wrong channel. I have not seen a single reaction from either reactor that delves deep into atrocities. Most movie reactors aren't like that too
@_scriblr_1010 no they make a fair point. I understand wanting to have fun. But plenty r still capable of absorbing what they're watching and not taking the piss 24 7. Billy binges and mellverse are good examples of having a balance of that and by no means consider themselves analyse channels
You two get an A as usual but this movie gets an OOOOF
The stage musical is 100x better than this
This is the motion picture of the musical!
Not the one I saw irl, Australian Stage Version was so much better then this.
Growing up means learning to hate Matilda.
…why
@anton bradbury she's annoying in my personal opinion, little miss know it all etc. Nice meeting you tho
@@TheMaskedNate i don’t think she ever boasts… she’s just very determined to make things right i guess
welchy's not fun, don't ever react with him again
I love Welchy :(
I'm gonna need you to watch The woman King. The actress who plays Miss Honey is in it and she is astounding!🤩🤩 also the moive is BAD ASS!!!!!!!!
P.S. could you pretty please watch it with @BillyBinges
