I bought this gun in .308, I live in South Texas and mainly shoot white tail, hogs and coyotes out to 300 yds with a 22 inch barrel. This is my second season and I am impressed. Sure, there are better rifles and calibers but nothing wrong with mine.

Curious what is the weight on the 308 ? I'm looking at several different models of Tikka and few others.

Nice review, i bought the exact gun, 3 for 3 this year for me, bull moose at 350 yards,2 whitetail bucks at 80 yards. Love the gun and ya cant beat the 7mm, i didnt use the break while hunting, but do at the range, who notices recoil when your shooting game haha not me

There’s a button in front of the safety. If you depresses the button while the rifle is on safe, you can run the bolt.

Have a very similar rifle, Tikka roughtech in 7mm, one of the best rifle buys on the market. Sub moa at 300 yards with the correct ammo. The trigger breaks like glass, bolt is smooth not quite defiance level but still fantastic for factory order. Quality unit with the purchase. This review nailed most everything on its features.

@@Rippinsmallies Only difference between 7mm and 6.5mm is the barrel might be slightly shorter and the action is a shorter through due to the bullet length,,7mm will have close to 20-25% more energy which will have a tonne more recoil,,6.5mm is a nice round as it's got better ballistics due to the bullet shape,,

That's pretty close to a do it all rifle.I would put a smaller scope on it and replace the muzzle brake with a thread protector. The recoil of that cartridge is fairly mild and your ears don't need the blast.

I purchased a Tikka t3x lite in 22-250. I tried 3 different manufacturer ammo and two different scopes. The tikka did not shoot good at all. The best it could do was 2” at 100 yards. I looked on their website for a phone number or a way to send an email, but can not find any way to get a hold of tikka. That was back around September. So for now it just sits and I wasted $800 for the tikka and $1200 for the scope that sits on it. I got lucky and came across a bergara in 22-250. Tried the same ammo in it. On a bad day the Bergara gets 3/4” at 100 yards. I will never purchase a Tikka again.

Comparing the tikka to the Bergara wilderness hunter. The Bergara is better in every way but weight and maybe drop mag instead of box magazine
    Both have sub moa guarantee
Bergara now has a fluted bolts and is smoother than tikka
    Better stock
Extra round in the box magazine
    Metal trigger guard.
Wilderness is cerakoted and tikka is stainless. I prefer cerakote.

    • @mrjeffjob
      @mrjeffjob Před 2 lety +3

I’m sorry to have to say this but don’t buy a Bergara unless it’s the Premium action. I bought a B 14 HMR before I started reading reviews about the pig metal bolt shrouds. The threads strip out and the firing pin can fly back into your face. Not safe at all. Bergara ran a cover story about one guy hand loading rounds too hot.
So as always, I strip new guns down, clean the packing grease out and generally look things over. When I pulled the bolt and pin apart lo and behold my threads were literally smashed down at the 3 and 9 positions! I have yet to fire a shot so the hot handload story is BS.
I called them expecting the problem to be resolved. First time they tried telling me it was normal manufacturing to which I called no way. I asked if they made a steel shroud and if so I’d buy it. Remington 700 shrouds are about $25 so I thought I shouldn’t have to repair a new rifle but whatever. They repeatedly said it wasn’t a defect. So I hung up and waited a few weeks then called again. I was hoping I’d get a different person that would admit the problem and help me.
This time they said well yes a few were made wrong but they fired that company and got a new one. They told me my rifle wasn’t affected, I told them it was. They mumbled some platitudes and hung up.
So now I have a $950 gun I can’t shoot and they won’t acknowledge or fix the problem! After more research I discovered the Premium bolt is made of all steel and has a floating bolt head. So I had to buy a Premium bolt for $275 to be able to use a $950 gun with a safety flaw they won’t admit.
Before I discovered this problem I had ordered a B 14 Hunter but canceled the order. I lost my $170 deposit because of the cancellation. So a $950 gun eventually cost me $1420 altogether.
Since there are great gun companies out there I figure there’s no reason to buy a Bergara.
So if you still want one I’d tell the gun shop owner to take the bolt apart to inspect it before buying.
PS. I still haven’t fired a round thru this gun. I just get angry every time I even look at it. $1420 paper weight I guess.

Also, bergara are button rifled Chromoly barrels and Tikka are Cold Hammer Forged.
      TLDR:
A Tikka with the same metal and barrel profile as a bergara will be more rigid and last longer.
Any accuracy difference would be debatable. (Harmonics vary, rifling precision, etc.) But the durability/rigidity goes to Tikka.
      Long version:
I've read that a CHF barrel will be stiffer and have more wear resistance compared to a button rifled Barrell made from the same steel.
Without having experience or seeing the data 1-1 I can't confirm this 100% but work hardening of steels is a well known and proven phenomenon, that results from repeated impacts on metal (i.e. CHF) so it makes sense to me that the Tikka barrel would last longer and be more rigid at the same barrel profile and steel.
