- As we all know, Chartreuse can be hard to find in certain markets and Chartreuse has said they will not increase production to meet higher demand. So while we wait for the Chartreuse craze to blow over, let's explore some alternatives.
00:00 Why the "shortage"?
01:38 Genepe de Alpes
02:30 Centum Herbis
03:27 Faccia Brutto
04:59 Brucato Amaro

We have created a Virtual Bottle Shop on our website, and when you buy a Virtual Bottle we'll call out your name when we use it on the show!
It's a great way to help contribute to the show. If you don't find the bottle you want to send our way, you can always "sub" it out with another bottle for the same price, just write us a note at checkout!

Thanks for this. Perhaps one of us should take one for the team, become a Carthusian monk, discover the secret recipe and share that discovery with the world.
Only a few of those monks know the actual recipe. The rest just take care of their one part which is mixed and used to blend in the final product. So that wouldn't even get you the results you want!
That would be low.
Still hoping that Tempus Fugit will come through with their own Chartreuse alternative, if anyone could nail it than it'd be them.
Anders featured the Boomsma Claerkampster Cloosterbitter in his Chartreuse alternative video. I picked up a bottle for only $28 in Chicago and gave it a try in a Last Word. It missed the bracing vibrance of all those herbs (Boomsma's 17 vs. Chartreuse's 130) but ultimately worked out pretty well.
I'm really happy to see Chaparral from Brucato mentioned. I absolutely love the stuff. I still haven't tried Green Charteuse by itself, but the Chartreuse swizzle I made with Chaparral tasted just like the one at the bar and the last word I made with it was absolutely delicious. It's also great by itself. I was surprised and happy to see it in Los Angeles. It's easy to find in San Francisco, but I imagine rare anywhere else. Highly recommend trying it.
I tried a few of these, but my favorite alternative for green Chartreuse has been Boomsma Cloosterbitter. The nose on its own is different, but the flavor in a cocktail is right with it. Not the most pourable bottle, but I was pleasantly surprised with it and will be my go-to for the foreseeable future. Great video, as always 🍻
I love Chartreuse so much I wish it wasn't so difficult to find.
I’m a huge fan of the taste comparisons! Looking forward to the next one!
Would have loves to see him make a Last Word with each and give his thoughts on the taste.
FWIW, I've found DOM Benedictine to be the closest easy-to-find thing to Yellow Chartreuse. Not the same, but surprisingly similar in cocktails.
that is a solid alternative. Strega is also a pretty good one. Galliano works in a pinch
I see Faccia Brutto in my future. Thanks for that!
Thanks Leandro!!!
My wife muled a bottle of Chaparral from Bitters and Bottles after this video.
Fantastic liqueur - really fun middle space between an amaro and an herbal liqueur. I love the focus on featuring local California herbs.
It’s GOOD stuff!
When are you going to do the companion to this video about Yellow Chartreuse substitutes?
Sadly, I can't get any of these where I live. Thankfully, Chartreuse still shows up (at MSRP) on occasion. I even picked up a bottle of Green VEP the other day.
I'd love a video on the Faccia Brutto line of amari
Shop near me sells it for £45 still, which was the price I was seeing on Amazon before the issues
Nice and informative video!
Centum Herbis sounds delicious with the chocolate notes.
Sadly, I don’t think any of those Chartreuse alternatives are available in Denmark/Europe in general (where I am from). But then again, there is still plenty of Chartreuse in Denmark. One of my go-to shops currently have 39 bottles of GC in stock.
"We can't get any alternatives, we just have tons of the real stuff at super affordable prices."
*cries in North American*
Do a sparkel review pls ❤
Whew in Europe it still around 55 usd :P, altought genepy is even cheaper 23 USD
Damn he's pissed!
I just saw green chartreuse at a store for the first time in a long time. Four bottles on the shelf. The price? $245
PHAAATCHYAAAA BRRRUUTT-OOOHHH
Leandro, did you see Jean-Felix's video on making Green Chartreuse at home??
We did. Are you going to try making it yourself?
@@freepour after I get through my bottle and a half of green chartreuse... I just might! lol
Where is there a shortage of green? We still have it all the time where I live. $30cdn though for 375ml.
The closest place to me that even has it in stock is 5 and a half hours away and is $87 for a 750ml bottle.
Consider yourself the lucky unicorn. It’s extremely hard to come by everywhere else. The lack of supply has made it even harder for shops to keep any supply when they DO get some in.
WHERE THE HELL ARE YOU?! 🤣
Genepy is my usual go-to. Although I have worked in a bar where were the blue/green btl faccias and brucato were used often, among other stuff... though not as a sub for GC. It's been a while since I've used them but now I have to keep an eye out. Thanks for the video, the world needed this, seriously lol
BOOMSMA CLOOSTERBITTER, BABY
both bars i work at use it
I love this stuff. It is my current go-to chartreuse replacement.
