- Hey everyone, super excited to share how i went about to create the splash for Qiyana the newest champion in league of legends.
As always i could not have made it without the incredible Qiyana pod and splash team who supported me and gave me feedback along the way,

Did I just find the channel of a professional artist who makes official lol splash art and shares his process with explanation!! I would really love to see more from you!
I also like how you explain the struggles you find and how you overcome them in the process, it clarifies that the process requires a lot of thought and does not 'just happen'!
I would reccomend looking up "knkl" on youtube. Particulairly the "lets Paint ahri" series

467 layers?! oh my...anyway great job!
GriGore and there’s me who gets uncomfortable with more than 10 layers... fucking insane
He did say he keeps merging them. And if you look at the scrollbar at the right you can see he doesn't have that much layers at the same time.

@Diego CJ Nah that's way too many if you're not merging them part way through, he's only at 400+ because photoshop looks at the last layer named "Layer #" and just adds 1 to the number, so when he last merged it just took the name of a layer in the 400's
He doesn't use the 400+ layers simultaneously, its just a technique to avoid an infinity of ctrl + Z
Instead of undo, you create a new layer, do your microchanges then merge it. And sometimes there are "inceptions": a change within a change, or a change within a change within a change.
I'm still stuck on step one where you take a reference photo. Where do I get a wife

@CraftedGadgetMC They only did one right now and that was for Yuumi, not to mention it is not complete. Before that, they had the art spotlight series on hold.
This should be a legit video series from riot for the upcoming league champions
There is a series known as "the art of league of legends" but last time I checked it hasnt been updated in a long while
I always admired everyone who makes this stunning splash arts for the League champions, but sometimes its hard to actually know the artists who made them.
I really love your work and appreciate way too much how open you are at showing us the whole process.

1:40 concept is so wonderful.. actually all 5 of those thumbs just after are staggering. I hope they utilize some further refined versions in tandem with future lore reveals around qiyana and her background
Top right and middle left would have had so much community support on its release I think, compared to the lukewarm to negative reception "she looks like a smite charavter"
so they basically told you: ''Make her hips bigger and more noticeable'' xD

its a shame that the team decided on a splash that wasnt so boring, the other poses and compositions had a lot of potential and he came up with so many great ideas
it's true, but the essence of Qiyana is just the cockiness and the sassiness of her and i think the pose he settled for in the end captures that perfectly, she's holding the blade so lightly while she gives smirk and a sassy pose to the camera because she just doesn't give a fuck. i loooooove it.

Qiyana is my favorite champion! Seeing how her splash art was made got me to realize how much an image can portray the character with their body language alone. But every part of the splash art is all Qiyana! Her nonchalant attitude with the explosion behind her, the hand on her hips and the gorgeous shine of her crown just screams greatness and power!

It's really interesting to an expert at work. There's a lot Riot has done both good, and bad over the years. Skin and skin splash design has only gotten better and better over those years. Really impressive stuff you all help produce.
Considering that Qiyana is my main champion right now, I love everything about my cute but evil princess 💓 You did a wonderful job for her splash art, it's fitting for her.

Her splash sure is beautifully drawn, but the character's design itself seems really generic. I can see her being in one of those mobile game ads saying "Come play for free NOW my lord".

So you’re the man behind my favorite splash art of all time! I love all of the details in her splash, the focus being on her and each element on her ohmlat. It’s a simple pose, but it really does capture her essence better than an action pose. The way she lightly holds her weapon, the hand in her hip, the glare. It all says that conquering is easy for her. She is confident, like she feels she is destined to rule the world, and it is your duty to bow to her. Such an amazing drawing, so glad you shared your process!!!
I've been following you on DeviantArt for a while now and I was blown away when I found out you've done a few of the Splash Arts for Champions and Skins! Personally not a fan of the direction you guys ended up going, I think the othe thumbnails looked a lot better even if they didn't have as much sass. That said, dang dude this is some impressive art.

I admire the artists so much for being able to make characters look so cool and detailed 🥺 sometimes i just look at the champions (in wild rift) just to have a closer look at their designs 😂✨ and i'm just like 🤯 how did someone make this!

If you ever do something like this again, I would love you to talk about layer management, shortcuts you use, etc. Just how to use Photoshop to its full potential while painting. Great vid brotha.

I didn't like the splash at all when it first came out but after watching this video, I have much more appreciation for it and I really like the way it looks! So gorgeous!! The sketches that you began with look amazing as well!

Those post-processing tricks that are used on many of the RIOT splash's seem pretty simple but are pulled off SO WELL by you guys. I think that would be really awesome! Thanks for posting this video!

Thanks for showing how you do stuff, like how you adjust the midtone value in comparison to the background light. I also find it really useful to go and paint on other things instead of staring at the same painting for hours. I\m still really new at drawing and painting (still grasping a lot of fundamentals like key values, proportions, anatomy, perspective etc) and a lot of the time when i render stuff with brushes it ends up looking muddy, I'd be really interested in seeing how you render smaller details like eyes, nose, etc. I'd really love to become as good as you years from now

this guy has improved a ton from this, but why isnt anybody talking about the physics? there's no way she'd be able to hold that at an angle with one hand, and shes barely even gripping it
