    Well done Martin...glad you sorted it.
    Been in that position a few times.
    Hope the unit lasts...as some Android units can fail relatively early. Fingers crossed. Personally I would have fitted a Xtron unit. They do OEM units for all manufacturers and generally are plug and play... with steering wheel etc.
    Anyways....enjoy.

    Great video and very comprehensive as always.
    But wasn't it easier back in the 80's, you just bought a nice stereo (Panasonic was my preferred choice) some better speakers, wired it in and marvelled over the improvement in sound.
    Today it's almost a requirement to have full connection to everbody and everything in our cars.
    Maybe the cars themselves in the 80's were more interesting, enough on their own to keep us entertained?

    I fitted a cheap Chinese android radio to my Mk3 recently.The steering wheel stalk control is just a resistive ladder. The two wires that come from it were connected to Key1 and ground either way round, then configured using the SWC software. A wire marked Brake was connected to the wire going to the handbrake so videos could only be played when handbrake was on (needed to be legal) I also fitted a reversing camera. The GPS antenna was stuck on top of one of the metal parititions at either side behind the radio. I modified the radio by removing the internal mic and puting a jack on the back for an external mic. Hands free via bluetooth works great, indeed the whole set works superbly and only cost around 50-60 quid It also uses my existing sat nav software (Co-Pilot) flawlessly.

    I was very tempted with this for my Reliant but there was no feasible way to install a deep double din. One thing you have to be dead careful of, is no form of video media live or recorded can be playing when you are driving, even if its a music video, an old bill on a bike etc spots that, they will nab you for all sorts including dangerous driving. This is why here in the UK front fitting TV's for cars were outlawed and that has never been rescinded but sat navs and calls, setting it up to broadcast extra car information is fine.

  • @dodgydruid
    @dodgydruid Před 3 lety

    Yay for some Selector :) I run mine purely off a flat USB key not bothering to connect my phone as I have all my music I can slap onto a USB key or a TF card and just leave it in there and means I can access the 10 odd gigs by directory, up 10, down 10, randomise etc, the TF sits flush and out of sight and seems to sound just a touch better than the USB option imho.

I went to Halfords and looked a Kenwood unit I wanted to replace the manufacturer fitted one with, but they told me it wouldn't fit because the original stereo was angled down - something to do with inside the hole the stereo comes out of being tapered down. Considering chucking some money at this stereo to try it.

After that and for your Internet - you go and grab a "Twin-SIM-Card" from your existing Mobilephone Contractor (reacts to the same Number/same Data counter everything) for 5€$/Month and put that SIM-Card in a old unused Mobilephone and put this via USB Cable somewhere in your Car.
    That Game with Hotspot and blabla..you do it 3 times and then it is forgotten.
