The battle at Rephidim - Amalek & the Amalekites defeated by Moses and Joshua

  • The site of the famous battle in Exodus 17 is found some 4 miles west of the famous split rock. It is a somber story of Amalek and the Amalekites attacking Israel as they fled to the safety of Rephidim. The story is probably the origin of the saying, "God helps those who help themselves". Moses and Joshua save the day with their most heroic response to the crisis. True rest can only come when the enemies of God are defeated.

    I know this post is over a year old...but wanted to say, it is so amazing, that someone else, relishes in these stories such as I do. To believe, and to actually visit a biblical truth such as this, is just...well...emotional. I would love to visit the area you did. To see...to smell...to touch...the landscape, where this took place...is a blessing. And to have a rock, in your possession, one that you know was a witness to this great story, all those years ago...is nothing short of amazing. Thanks for posting. Even though I have never been there...you made me feel...as if I were standing on that hill myself. From Houston, Texas...thanks.

    Great video footage but your proposed location of the hill of Moses at 2:18 and 3:22 puts Moses in the middle of the battle on a little hill exposed to enemy forces which is not a good place for the "commander" to be. I have another location I hope to share that makes more sense. Also after the battle Moses built an alter YHWH Nissi so I would think there needs to be an altar close bye. Best Regards, Nick

      Good point, but I believe the nature of the battle, the enemy, limits of arrows having Moses with his arms up very close to where the fighting was taking place makes sense. If on the other hand, their commander was like Alexander the Great and wanted to cut off the head of the snake/leader (Xerxes) then yes, would be stupid to have Moses vulnerable, but rather best to keep him way behind the line. Perhaps I need to move my line in the sand forward to the more narrow pass, then Moses would be safe, not in middle of battle, but behind it.

    I sent all the info that I had to Andrew Jones, he says that he has the path we took 2 years ago that day, I now believe it is north of Rephidim around the corner on way to Sinai to northern passage, it was a telephoto shot from the car, so may be a trick with shadows, but either way, when I saw the photo, and it was taken essentially same day as visit there, I initially thought it was around the corner south of Rephidim, so my bad that at time I thought nothing of it, but then when I read the scripture carefully, I said wow! Hur must have rolled some rocks to make a chair lol, and then this whole concept of "rest", and I'll make your enemies a "footstool" I hope Andrew finds it, he's a genius. The key to Andrew finding it, is that my camera recorded us leaving Haql, then two hours later I took the photo, there is a prominent ridge that I photographed driving into road to Horeb/Sinai around corner from Rephidim at the same time as I took the picture of this possible chair formation, so I do believe Andrew will find it. - RC Elway.

      Christ referred to many events in the Old Testament, from creation, the flood, and Moses. Either these stories are true and who Christ said He was is also true. The whole thing goes down as clever myth, or absolute truth. Its fake or an actual revelation from God. To find the sight that fits the story like a glove adds to my faith and others. Then the question becomes, what are you going to do about, how do I respond to what God expected out of Israel, and out of us now. Do I want an eternal crown, or the cold grave. Accept, or reject. Sitting on fence will get harder as time progresses.

      when I flew from Jeddah to Tabuk security sent me to an office due to having a drone in my carry on. (arrival at Jeddah no problem) I didn't know what the problem was, and didn't understand what they were saying, but after paying a fee of $50 (luckily my credit card worked because they wouldn't take cash). I believe the drone became classified as " sporting equipment" and I luckily made the flight - so ya, don't know what to say. Just glad I got drone thru. I do not know the laws. All I can say is, never transfer thru Egypt from what I've heard.

    I’m studying into the land that is now called Palestine. I know the Mizraim went to Egypt, then sometime migrated to Egypt. My question is who was the first to inhabit what is now modern day Israel coast line what is Gaza now. Who went there after the Tower of Babel? Didn’t God give that coastal land to the line of Shem? So did the line of Ham go there and the line of Shem never went there. Thank you so much.

    • @relway3209
      @relway3209  Před 4 měsíci

      The key point in one's study is to separate secular geo-political history from Biblical history. They are different. Abraham was a sojourner in the land (we are also sojourners). He dealt with the Philistines (Abimelech, Phicol near Beersheba today) They were mixed Caananite, and from tribe of Manasseh. Abraham bought land in Hebron from a Hittite (Genesis 23:7). So technically the land of Palestine belongs to many people/all people. The reason that Israel is so small compared to Arab lands is that Israel in Biblical typology is God's people, God's church whereas the people of Ishmael are of this world (see Genesis 17:20) When God's church, the sojourners, gentiles, and etc (Romans 9:8, Gal 3:29) welcome Jesus back (2nd coming/rapture/end of world) they inherit the whole earth. So only good people inherit "Israel" God's church is thru-out the world today. Even the words of Daniel 11:45 - God's church/Israel is between the Seas! Not from the the river to the sea!

    The amalekites were NEVER in this area..
    They are mentioned in the region Timnah, Kades-Barnea ONLY in that time, later on with Saul more up north into Canaan.
    Saudi Arabia is never mentioned in bible. The presence and place of the Midianites, Jetro is not yet fully known.
    Paul is telling in Galatians about Hagar, Sinai in Petrea Arabia, which is particularly west of Seir, Edom, and Not in Saudi Arabia now.

      Would be nice to dig, and test. I hope the Saudi's give permission. As for Moses "killing" that is strong language for a leader taking orders from God, and in case of Amalekites it was self defense/war. The golden calf incident, they weren't all Jews but rather a "mixed multitude" they had a chance to repent but didn't ie they refused. So laws of day were clear - death
