I find it hilarious that you think that Jimmy Page, an occult adapt, who's WELL VERSED in occult symbology, chose his personal SIGIL solely because his birth sign is a Capricorn, lol. The FACT that this SIGIL is found in a Grimoire that is used to summon GOETIC entities should at least give you a clue as to why it's dear to his heart. In the occult, SIGILS are extremely powerful because they are charged with INTENT..but the MAGICK is nullified if that intent is not kept secret. Jimmy is a real magician so these symbols were definitely not a gimmick.

Wow.... Okay so. I was 9 when this album came out.
It became the most profound musical / spiritual experience of my younger life. It was a warm summer night sitting outside on a bench where I grew up nestled in by bushes and trees all around under the moon and the guy that lived upstairs came outside with a tape player he had and next thing I heard was "hey hey momma said the way you move, gonn make you sweat gonna make you groove groove groove and the lick after and I was completely entranced in what I was hearing.
It had my complete attention.
I'll never forget the affect it had or the journey it took me on. I then "Rock N Roll'd" into the "The Battle of Evermore" and climbed a "Stairway to Heaven" and went to the
"Misty Mountains" where the spirits go now and found "Four Sticks" while"Going to California " waiting for
"When the Levee Breaks" and when it was over I wasn't the same. I had to hear that music again it changed my life.
Well when my then 13 year old older brother got the album and brought it home that's when it got even more intense.
There was such a curiosity in me already about this LED ZEPPELIN, who was it? What was it? The album only deepened the mystery. There was no writing or explanation on the album, no name, I'd never seen anything like it. Just a picture frame on a building on the front with a picture of a man with a pile of sticks on his back. It opened up to reveal a night seen of hooded figure a top a mountain holding a lantern overlooking a town with a man that appears to be attempting to climb the mountain. I pulled out the album sleeve to find the words to only one of the songs "Stairway to Heaven" and a couple liner notes written in calligraphy.
I pulled the album out of the sleeve and on it saw no album name, just, LED ZEPPELIN and four strange symbols at the top. The only knowledge gained was the unfamiliar names Jimmy Page, Robert Plant, John Bonham, and John Paul Jones. Who plays what?
Who were they? Where were they from? What'd they look like? Is this their only album? Why no pictures or explanation or name. Why is this music so powerful and affect me the way it does with no explanation to any of it?
What do those symbols mean?
Everything about it was a mystery, it was a spiritual experience for me........ Mind blowing

Thanks for reading it all. It wasn't until some time after the fact that I finally started to get a few answers. The same older brother came home with a "Hit Parader" or "Cream Magazine" which were both popular publications on the current music scene and "low and behold" there on the cover was a picture of the mysterious LED ZEPPELIN, finally something I could identify with. Really just Robert and Jimmy I couldn't really see JPJ or Bonzo but .......
Already being a guitar fanatic it was the first time I'd ever seen a Les Paul, "huh so that really powerful and magical music was played on that guitar ha"? I was infatuated, I had to have one. It started a life long desire to own a Les Paul. When I started getting serious about music a little later in my teen years I ended up owning a couple Les Paul copies I bought and paid for myself with my first job at 16 with our local news paper. My parents couldn't afford such things and I knew it was up to me. The first copy being a really good one I sent to California for with a nice hard shell case it was pretty awesome. It didn't say "Gibson" on it but it was a nicely made tobacco sunburst finish with 2 white humbuckers in it, it played really well and sounded great. It was as close as I could get to the real thing and helped to suppress my hunger. I never owned a real Les Paul until later in life. It's only a "Studio" and it's black and was gifted to me from my then fiancee. After 20 odd years my relationship with her came tan unexpected ugly end and strangely enough that guitar seemed to develop some strange unusual issues, in short, it's possessed LoL!
I play most of zep 4 and there's just something magical for me playing Zeppelin music on a Les Paul. Especially the fourth album! Upon my discovery of that guitar and learning it was a "Gibson Les Paul" only added to the mystique to the whole story, I grew up on "Gibson Ave."
I thought that was really ironic, some freak coincidence? Or something else?🤔

I read a theory that Bonham's sigil was a representation of his trade: 2 bass drums and a snare.

When I was coming up in the 70s, we called this album ZOFO.
JPJ'S AND BONZO'S symbols are both Celtic
I heard of Led Zeppelin since 1969. I got the "Zoso" album on June 19th 1975.
The reason for the symbols is somewhat clear in that we are still trying to ponder and guess at it 50 years from their inception. I think they were birthed to add to the mystique that Led Zeppelin's music already had. How else to set yourself apart from so many other rock bands then to shroud the public from clear labeling and direction. It was ingenious and still "makes us wonder".
I do think that after digging deep into Page's infatuation of the occult that there must be some connection to all the symbols and some sort of "magic" that Jimmy thought he wielded and the rest of the band were attracted by and ultimately participated in atleast somewhat. Watch the movie the song remains the same and the dream sequences, especially Page's. I'm not an expert but my observation is that there is something very dark about it all. IMO Jimmy Page enveloped himself in dark magic or the occult to augment his talent, fame, and personal exhibitions.
At least that's what Jimmy wanted people to think then. He lived the mystique of it all. It got people talking and wondering out loud.

He had a genuine interest in the occult but he never was a real practitioner in the sense that he never was initiated in the magical order he was interested in (Crowley's OTO). He bought Boleskine and ran an occult bookstore and publishing house, but he sold them all off in the 80s.

Plant's feather looks like a quill, which makes sense as he was the main writer. Bonham's looks like a drum kit, but represents the trinity. both of their symbols have both occult meaning and tie nicely together with what they do, and of course Page Sigil is connected to most likely some Goetic magick. The odd man out is Jones, who chose a witch knot. It has little connection visually to what he did musically, and seems like a random choice in terms of magick. My guess is Plant knew exactly what he wanted as he was deep into the occult, showed symbols to Plant and Bonham and they both chose ones that represent what they do musically, and Jones just took one he thought was cool.

My oldest brother, Henry, or as we called him, H.R., brought home Led Zeppelins Physical Graffiti the day it came out in 1975, brought it home, grabbed me, hid then 8 year old little brother, and hooked up a dual headphone jack to the stereo and we put our headphones on and my life was forever changed.
My other brother, John, or Duke as we called him He was always doing a spot on John Wayne impersonation), bought me Led Zeppelin IV for Christmas, in 1982, with Coda. He knew how much I loved Zeppelin, and saw how devastated I was when Bonham died, so in his mind, this was a "new album" to him. I knew better. But I loved both albums because he bought them for me. I had a Frankenstein guitar I had made at 14 years old that had a Gibson Les Paul Copy body, and I took a Squire Strat neck and sanded down the back of the headstock so that it would fit the Les Paul body's insert. I loved the heavy sound of a Les Paul, but I also loved the must faster neck and fretboard of the Strat, so , hey, let's put 'em together.
Next I found an old big brown box of a receiver on "big garbage day", I was a bit of an electronics geek as a kid. My parents got me one of those 360 in 1 electronics hobby kits as a child, so I knew my way around a printed circuit board.i pulled this receiver apart, switched a few things, and BAM, - Free 150 watt amplifier. My Mom and Dad, while VERY MUCH impressed with my abilities, we're not happy that I couldn't play this guitar to save my life, and I would play, and just wait to see who would yell at me first to "TURN THAT GODD*MN THING DOWN!!!!".
I never learned music theory or those birds on a wire. I learned by hearing the music, letting my brain process it, and then whatever came out, came out.
I learned every song I could, but one of the first songs I ever learned fully and perfectly, was Going To California off LZ IV.
Page was already my Guitar God at 8 years old. Hearing Physical Graffiti for the first time cemented THAT.
Led Zeppelin IV has too many good memories associated with it for me to eve go into. My cousins on my Mom's side used to ick on me because I was such a HUGE Zeppelin fan. They were all into the pop of the 80s and all that bubblegum crap.
But when I was in my cousin Rick's room, I was scanning through his records. Sure enough, there it was- Led Zeppelin IV. Rick's excuse- and a good one:
"Who DOESN'T have Zep 4. It's got Stairway on it."
Point taken.
40 years later, point STILL well taken.
I still say Page was into magick that got them where they are, and Jones wouldn't sign. The band's History supports this theory. supports

It’s a fact that Page bought Boleskine house in the seventies he did redecorate the property but then left it to his friend Malcolm Dent to take care of it who reported some very strange happenings like unexplained noises in the night like a wild animal that snorted and banged about at night he was to scared to investigate until the morning where nothing was found but Crowleys house keepers children both died mysteriously and Dent said the place was evil with strange happenings very common like furniture moving about without reason doors slamming and opening and carpets apparently rolling up on their own “do what thou wilt shall be the whole law”was AC’s rules for life anyway Page quickly sold Boleskine house after this and it was apparent that Aleister Crowley carried out ceremonies that some say released an evil which still prevails at the property today!

Zoso is soL upside down and backwards. Sol is the personification of the Sun and a god in ancient Roman religion. 'Sol' is the name of Jimmy Page's recording studio.

The bands name is not on any of the albums after 4 except CODA . All three symbols Godhead, Celtic knot and 3 circle combined are all symbols of the holy trinity which is bullshit concocted by a catholic bishop and later ordained by Roman emperor Constantine . The symbols are some kind of band joke . Also in an interview Page called the symbol Zoso and said he would never tell anyone what it means .

What is the story about the picture on the cover of the 4th album?
Excellent question!! The picture in the frame that is on the wall was Jimmy Page's, I believe. He found it at an estate sale or antique shop. They hung it on the wall for the album cover. It's of a man of nature. He takes what he needs and in return gives back. That picture is hung on a wall of a torn down tenement or slum. If you open the gatefold, it is juxtaposition to the new skyscrapers of the city. "Down with the old, in with the new." The antithesis of the framed picture of the front.

1. Stick can be a symbol for a book or scroll (or album in this case).
2. Old man with hat carrying sticks (albums) on the front cover.
3. Old man with hat on album cover looks vaguely similar to old man with hat reading book (listening to album) next to Stairway lyrics.
4. Four Sticks (is a song on album) = fourth album = four band member symbols or sticks.

Great to see the Zeppelin mystery finally solved. I always knew it was a colourised photo and not a painting but thought it might have been created specially for the album cover and made to look old.
I have always called it " The Fourth" album or Zeppelin 4 .

What page is ZOSO on? I couldn't find zoso of the feather symbols in the Book of Signs.
They're not in that book. If you listen at 05:18 I say, 2 band member's and guest singer, Sandy Denny's symbols come from the Book of Signs - not Page's and Plant's. Page's was found The Red Dragon, which is impossible to find. Plant's, as I said mention in the video, is not known or truly clear where it came from. He said the Mu civilization.

All I know is this is the first Led Zeppelin album I ever owned. My brother gave it to me for Christmas 1974. and well I think my online name sez it all. I loved this band from the very first note on the first side.
I read also that the press kept saying Led Zeppelin were hacks and Jimmy pissed with this want to release IV without any mention of who it was. However Atlantic made them put Led Zeppelin on the back spine. Or at least that is what I was told and beleave. Any way good video bud thanks
oh and when people ask me about the name. I tell them I thought Led Zeppelin would be a bit pretentious. So I went with brother Phred. I used the spelling Fred for about 5 or 6 years on local bbs. Then a band in England used that name and grabbed up every single use for the name Fred Zeppelin yahoo hotmail myspace and every other online outlet.. so I changed mine to Phred. been so long now I don't think I could or would go back to Fred.

I've never heard anyone pronounce it that way. It's derived from French, so the T is silent. I've looked this up again since your comment and verified this. If YOU have evidence contrary to this please link in the comments, please.

You might. A lot of the symbols in the book have Christian roots. Bonham's is sometimes referred to ad The Trinity. Sandy Denny's, God head. Also a Trinity.

@@MotorRoseMusic I hear you there on that friend. I'm a Christian by the way. I don't have any of their material anymore however. At one time I owned every album they did. But for my love for Jesus the Christ I'm very selective to the music I connect myself with. I love gospel and I play guitar for the chapel. I can play several Led Zeppelin songs too, but those days are over, I get more out of gospel music now. I'm always learning different things however am I've watched documentaries on Zeppelin. I know Jimmy Page owned an occultic book store back then and was dabbling in it himself. Albums have occultic overtones as well as their lyrics. I've often wondered why they couldn't be matched with any other band. Had their very own sound. Very, extremely I should say talented. All four of them. God bless you now friend and keep safe. Hmm, if I'm being completely honest, I would say yes. However, only slightly. I believe it deserves most of its praise. I think we've all heard it enough, but it's a damn good song and a hell of a guitar solo.

Motor City Layne says "NO!" I believe at this time it is UNDERRATED! Because of its popularity and overplaying on radio over the years I know it gets the dreaded eyeroll from a lot of people and is then dismissed as overplayed and overrated. With that, the genius of the song, solo, structure and Bonzo's drum fill get lost! It was genius then and now. Even with the obvious line-clichés.
I think its overplayed but not overatted it deserves all of the hype BUT alot of zepplin tunes are equally as good if not better like when the levee breaks or achiellies last stand or black dog are in my opinion much better

Stairway’s over-saturation is its biggest downfall IMO. I don’t think it could POSSIBLY be overrated if we’re still debating it 50 years after it was recorded.
Its genius is overshadowed by its familiarity. Happens a lot. I think Lynard Skynard is one of the greatest bands ever, and I’d also be happy if I never heard a single one of their songs ever again.
Page is it to that devil shit and always has been.. I believe the rest of the band follows his lead. Its all idolatry and when he breathes his last there will be a reckoning....
