    In this video you can hear the Sound generated by the GTO-VVVF traction converter of the ÖBB Taurus (Siemens EuroSprinter ES64U2) locomotive from the Engine Room inside the Locomotive. A followup video where you can see the traction inverters opened up is planned on this channel. I will also explain a few things about these Inverters.
    By the way, if you look on the floor at 1:09 you can see my Inductor Recording device! :)

    In diesem Video ist der Sound (Tonleiter), welcher von den GTO-Thyristor Traktionsstromrichtern der ÖBB Taurus (Siemens EuroSprinter ES64U2) erzeugt wird, aus dem Maschinenraum aufgenommen zu hören.
    Ein weiteres Video, wo die Traktionsstromrichter geöffnet zu sehen sind (bei abgestellter und geerdeter Lok) wird in Zukunft auf diesem Kanal folgen. Ich werde zudem ein wenig dazu erklären!
    Wenn man bei 1:09 auf den Boden schaut, sieht man übrigens mein Induktives Aufnahmegerät für die elektromagnetischen PWM Sounds. :)

    I tell ya now, it would be much better with an MTU TB10/TB11 diesel engine in there combined with the traction motors. The Taurus would make the PERFECT dual-mode locomotive for the UK. We've had some new Stadler EuroDual's built for us, but they can only reach 110mph. Mind you, it would be nice to have a dual-mode ICE. I know that they built diesel versions of the ICE T, but a dual-mode version would be WAY better, as it would be able to run on not just non-electrified lines, but on lines which its overhead electric system doesn't comply with the correct voltage.

      @@nooxis2643 Technically it's 6.4MW
      Each Traction Inverter outputs 2x 0...2000V 0...160Hz at 800A max.
      The Locomotive has two Inverters so in total that's 4x 2000V and 800A
      For P=U*I we can say 4*(2000V*800A) = 6400000W -> 6.4MW
      In software, however there is a 7MW mode defined which is applicable for a limited amount of time only when the Inverters are in Overmodulation PWM Technique.

    0:40 There is a blue nameplate in the upper left corner, can you help me find out the traction converter type (E**** D****/*** M5 ****) wrote on it?

      Yeah, sure! I took many images of it already but only lately I found out that many people seem to be interested in the converter name plate. I will include it in every vvvf-video from now on!

      This was recorded inside the locomotive. The sound is emitted by the traction motors underneath and can therefore be heard inside as well.

    What is the cost of this engine in US dollars?

      About 2.8 Million Dollars for each locomotive in a final contract of 332 locomotives of this type. The whole contract was about 210 Million dollars.
