I would like to remind everyone that Jake's claim of annoying a culprit into talking wasn't all for show.
Yeah actually you’re right, I never realised that
*badly strummed guitar*
*Incoherent screeching*
Still sad that only Holt witness his brilliance in this scene though. Wish we could get more of “Dark Side Jake” in season 8.
When Jake gets trapped in the interrogation room with a convict and he annoys the hell out of that guy (unintentionally 😂)
this is by far the smartest and most articulate scene in the whole show
@Daniel Newton "smart characters" which most of the times do dumb shit. But still it's interesting.
Lorist Norton if it wasn’t for this dumb shit, they wouldn’t have they’re naturally hilarious personalities. no one wants to see boring ol’ cops who just solve stuff and celebrate.
tells you how stupid the show is.
@@karma_tography I'm not criticizing it man. I mean those dumb moments give the characters more dimensions and life. They don't have that linear or 2-d personality and I like it. I've rewatched this on netflix like 5 times already. It's one of my favorite shows.
Himanshu Jain harsh, man. 🤦♀️
I feel really bad for the patient that has a murder weapon in their mouth...
I don't know, this may give the patient grounds to sue, and make bank!
@@thehollowlingwin sue whom? one dentist is in prison for life and the other one is dead
@@90socram24 You can still sue a prisoner? Or you could sue the hospital that hired them. Not to mention that hospitals and doctors have malpractice insurance so even if he goes broke you can still get paid
@@alloypaulson7520 I always envisioned their practice as a private clinic, not a hospital
Matt Paulson they were dentists who ran there own office. Most dentists don’t work for hospitals
Can we give a round of applause for the dentist’s actor? He doesn’t have as much dialogue here, but between what he does have and his body language, you can see the subtle changes from complete confidence to his breakdown beautifully.
He’s a really famous actor and he’s super good at it.
He's on of the main actors on this is us.
Well, he is the great Sterling K. Brown - played in Black Panther, and a whole host of other things. He was also in the last Predator movie, and he STILL killed it.
@@lego4virgo he even has a cool ass actors name.
He even won an award for this appearance.

The fact that peralta is actually a competent detective despite his childish antics is what I love about him.. and all the other characters
He's more than competent. He's like one of the best detective on the force
It's good to show that people can be competent and not 100% stuck up at the same time. In fact, it's mostly the really competent people that DON'T have to be stuck up, because a) they know they're good and b) they're live up within their work.
Literally describing the bunny ears lawyer trope
@@DrZaius3141 what do you mean with stuck up lmao. You know there's a middle ground between stuck up and childish right? A.k.a. normal, mature adult?
"I may be a dumbass but I'm not stupid"
This scene alone makes this episode one of my favourite B99 episodes of all time.
Same here
What about the gay card scene?
top 3 easily
It’s the best ep in the series
Definitely! I dare to say that it is the best episode in the whole series. And yup, by far my favorite.
-Notice any differences?
-we are not answering that
-Thats alright, I can tell you myself. 😂😂
I wish you didn’t block holt’s face with a logo when he said oh damn
Yuppp
same here it ruined the moment

@@JoelYapTK haha yess
Yea
I think my favorite thing about this show is how they sneak in real issues. He's relentlessly jabbing this guy to get him to confess about a murder, and he still mentions how addiction is a disease with a genetic component.
TheTitanz0r i was purely for comedic effect... theres hundred of examples you couldve used and you used that one?
Olivier Marcoux
I think it was repeated for comedic effect but the message, nonetheless was still there. Addiction does have somewhat of a genetic component.
I love it too! It's such a lighthearted series but they always acknowledge the serious issues without putting a massive amount of focus on it to ruin the genre of the series.
He said that to reinforce his lack of control over the situation: by saying his addiction was mostly a genetic component, Peralta removes even more credibility away
@FullTimeSlacker and what exactly would be the best way to spread a positive, informative message? Not everything's an agenda push bruv
I think what I loved most about this scene is that upon more than one viewing, the dude loses composure immediately. Hes not saying no or thats not what happened because he didnt do it hes saying it because he cant stomach the thought that he "just got lucky". But from the outside it just looks like hes denying he did it until the end. Love this show so damn much!
Yep, Jake is banking on the fact that psychopaths are proud of their work and don't like it when it goes unappreciated.
Correct but don’t make out as if u came up with this jake tells holt all that in the next scene
Zayd Mulla it’s pretty obvious I have a feeling most people worked it out by themselves anyway
I like the fact that Jake is speaking at a normal pace, but as soon as Philip says "That's not what happened" indicating that he does indeed know what happened, Jake knows that he's got him, so he ramps up the speed and intensity so Philip doesn't realize what he's doing
You can immediately tell how he goes from calm to irritated. No amount of concern or worry that Jake’s onto him, as soon as Jake got the murder weapon he started getting aggravated and Jake just kept pushing buttons after that. He planned on the perfect murder and seeing Jake acting all cocky as if he had solved the murder while constantly saying incorrect stuff gave the him the desire to correct Jake, and Jake constantly chalking up his perfect planning to luck made him even angrier. This is one of my favorite scenes from any police show ever because you can tell what’s about to happen due to the killers immense frustration at someone downplaying is intelligence and saying he got lucky. Then the “it wasn’t luck!” Sealed it
"Prince N'Jobu, you will return home at once, where you will face the council and inform them of your crimes."
lmao
@JustSomeGuyOnTheNet oh DAMN!!
And that ladies and gentlemen is 3 Oh Damns.
SON!!!!!!!!!
Oh damn. I knew I had seen him somewhere 😂
The fact that Jake tricked him into that is so amazing this scene actually made this entire comedy show look like the most badass cop show ever
Later the cold opener with Hitchcock and Scully will confirm that!
Apparently, they actually changed the cinematography and filming style for this scene to look like a Thriller scene instead of a comedy

*"I'm about to monologue, son"*
I just realized something. Every time he responds to Jakes monologue is when he comments about being "Lucky" or how it was a "miracle". He only talks when he thinks his pride is being threatened. Amazing writing
Amazing *directing
literally one of the best scenes in the show, and holt's 3x 'oh damn' makes it the cherry on top
All that was missing was the Kool-Aid man breaking down a wall as he got into the room xD.
I love how Jake got him to talk by passing his carefully crafted scheme off as luck and convenience. The dude cared more about being considered clever than about his freedom.
And that's also why he keeps undermining Jake by calling him an idiot or dumb. Brilliant writing!!
"One two three
*Plays guitar*
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA AAAAAA"
MAMA OOOOOOOOOOOH
I should stop doing that... it doesnt work lol
I love the subtle acting and writing in this scene. I must have watched it twenty times but I’ve only just noticed a call and response.
Jake starts the scene with “I’m about to monologue, son” and Philip ends it with a monologue and a contemptuous, snarling “son!”. Wonderful symmetry.
I found myself going back an forth between those two points in the video.
I wish I could have Captain Holt's voice!

Aren’t we all?
I will not. I Will not. I will... Not
Go Razmatazz. Go Razmatazz. Go Razmatazz.
This. Is. Captain. Holt. Get. Some. Get. Some. Get. Some.
Sterling K. Brown is just wonderful in this. I haven't seen something he's done that I didn't like yet. Talented, talented man.
1:29 he said no so hard he duplicated
😂😂😂😂😂
Oh my god I just noticed that 😭😂😂
Andy Samberg’s performance in this episode is amazing, especially in this scene. The three oh damms are just the icing on the cake
The only characters that appeared are Jake, Holt, and Charles. But the episode is amazing.
-And Gina-
And Gina lol
Hahaha yeah. I forgot. 😂😂😂
@JustSomeGuyOnTheNet Who that.
@JustSomeGuyOnTheNet sorry new phone. Who that
"it's already in a patients mouth, son!"
*look of immediate regret*
Some wise words "oh dam"
I love Jake's face after the confession, you can see how great he is as a detective. It was so serious but so him
I love that the lawer clearly figured out what was happening
Given her shock in the end im not so sure she knew exactly what was going on, but still you have a point given her job is to be his legal advisor and shes trying to keep him from saying things that can be used against him.... then the confession happens and her face almost screams "omg im defending a psychopath" because of how meticulous his plan was and how defensive he was for is pride over freedom
Sterling K. Brown is such a sensational actor and he alone made this one of my favorite episodes in the series.
"Oh damn. Oh Damn. OHH--" *CHOMP*
This goes to show that legendary episode doesn't need elaborate sets, costly showoffs. It just needs a top notch script backed by great acting. The best episode of B99!
12 angry men is a good movie for those reasons
This is by far my favorite episode I love that he baited that guy calling him lucky that is ridiculously good detective work because his ego was the only part of him that was vulnerable and Peralta exposed it perfectly
While this scene is absolutely amazing in its own right, the real hook of this episode is missed without the Holt-Peralta interactions up to this point. Jake and Holt make up a plan for Jake to play "dumb cop" and lower the witnesses' guard and give Jake an opening to getting him to confess. The dentist figures it out rather quickly and causes tension between Jake and Holt. But with this crescendo, Jake and Holt have done exactly what they planned. The dentist ended up underestimating that Jake could have cracked his mental like he did and got so angry that Jake was insulting him that he had to give it away. Amazing writing.
Jake killed it here, absolutely killed it...
To get 3 "Oh Damn's" from Captain Holt tops the time he called Peralta a Genius lol
You just got monologued,son!
Whoever manages this channel is underpaid and under appreciated.
Just like Gina 😂😂
The way Jake's monologue turned out to be the exact description of Love Quinn-Goldberg's first murder in You S3 is absolutely hilarious to me 😂
as much as i love the i want it that way scene, this one is hands down THE best scene in the entire show. the tension, the build-up, the cleverness of the murder. it's all so perfect
I agree man . The way he led him to confession was amazing
And while the scene is powerfull, the cut-out piece can't even properly convey how hard and long night it was until that eruption xD taxing on both detectives minds and bodies.
"How hard and long night it was until that eruption: taxing on both detectives' minds and bodies" Title of your sex tape.
this scene BLOWS my MIND every TIME ugh
Easily one of my favorite episodes!
Sterling K Brown chewed up the scene and Holt and Peralta's back and forth...both the acting and the writing...DAMN IT!
It's unfairly good!
I have rewatched the episode at least 5 times just for this scene. Such a satisfying ending
Fading out the audio over Jake's "And that's three 'oh damn's." line is a crime.
hands down one of the best episodes in TV history
No it was boring
Good but not one of the best, there are just so many perfect episodes of television for this to be counted among them
I dunno about best episode, but definitely one of the most satisfying endings in TV history
Okokok calm down, one of the best in B99 and maybe in comedy TV shows not in TV history jesus christ
not even close theres only two episodes that come mind when you think of top tv episodes: ozymandias from BrBa and the rains of castamere from GOT
Wish you had added Jake's "three oh damns!" to this scene!!!
Lowest budget episode and the best one
Tbh I think Sterling Brown sold this episode for me, he played a calm and methodical psychopath so incredibly well that the battle of wits between Jake and him became one of the most intense conflicts in the series
It’s also the most highest rated episode on IMDb with a 9.5 stars. Their highest rated episode to date.
@@dallassteel625 oh yes

How *dare* you ruin the third ‘oh damn’ with a logo and biting sounds
He did it, the madlad did it, he annoyed someone into admitting their crime!
such a good episode. the dentist's acting is on point it had me forgetting for a sec that it was a comedy series. not to mention the lack of other shooting locations which the series usually has. most of the episode runs inside the interrogation room & i'm no expert but one way i can say something is good is when a change in setting isn't needed. (kinda like the guilty with jake gylenhaal & buried with ryan reynolds.) in this episode there's no wild chase, no door kicks, just a room filled with great artists.
*Love how "nice Randall" looks so "bad guy-like"*
*Jake is....amazing.* 😂
This episode, especially the ending with Jake saying how he loves his job, is amazing, easily a series finale level of quality
the best/most tense scene in the whole series. i loved it, it’s my favorite scene so far.
this was the first episode where I saw Jake legit very very angry with no humor. It was probably the most intense scene i’ve seen from this whole series and i loved every second
The subtle acting in this episode is beautiful. Either if you understand it the first time or if you get it on a rewatch.
Earlier in the episode the dentist makes small corrections to Jake and Holt's theories of how the murder happened (which are so miniscule that they basically go unnoticed), and in this scene the dentist denies everything Peralta says; not because he didn't do it, but because the entire time he was pissed that someone would call him sloppy like that.
this was probably the most brilliant episode. it was not flashy like other episodes but jake got to show his wits in this episode
I wish they included the part at the end where Jake admits he knew the trophy wasn't the murder weapon. Makes the scene that much better.
Watched this too many times, the writing and acting never seizes to amaze me.
"The Box".
My favourite episode.
1:37-1:53
“Prince N’Jobu, you will return home at once, where you will face the Council, and inform them of your crimes”
Jake's expression at 1:54 is one of my favourite things about this scene. The look of satisfaction and "You're done" is just... urgh
I love this episode so much seeing Holt saying “OH Damn” X3 was the best feel ever
this is my favorite scene in the whole show
This was one of the most intense things I’ve ever watched I thought this was supposed to be a comedy show jesus

"OH DAMN" x3
Honestly the best episode in the series so far. I love how he made that canary sing!
I mean, I'm still waiting for his guitar playing and shrieking to get a confession.
this for me is the best episode of Brooklyn 99, this showed that it isnt just another generic sit-com but a cop show as well. wish we could have more episodes like this, it wasn’t just funny with Jake’s antics trying to get the suspect to break but it was also smart and creative with how it delivered its climax. theres a youtube video dwelling on this episode and I couldnt agree more with it.
Fun fact: Every time I can’t find a show to listen to I put this episode on and before I fall asleep I mouth the words until I finally fall asleep
I’ve done that with emperors new groove
This is one of the smortest moments I’ve seen on the show, and it’s this kind of creative and critical thinking that makes me want to be a detective/fed
one of my FAVORITE episodes of anything ever.
I love how they cut right before the line that they made the title of the video about as much as Robert Peralta loves his children.
That was a smart murder ..... sad he had to go down like that .....
lol what's sad about it? the only thing that beat him was his own ego, that's an AWESOME way to be beaten
This is my favourite episode in the entire show without question
I love how with every detective show the detective always has SOMETHING. Physic, the actual devil, Sherlock, etc. Peralta (oh god did I spell that right?) is just him. And he’s unbelievable
This is one of the shows best episodes, the way it combines Comedy with legitimate tension is incredible
This is one of my favourite episodes.
this is my favourite scene
I love this episode so much, gaves me chills when he finally confessed thanks to Peralta calling him lucky
