I bought a 2023 Pro-4X in October, yeah it may look a bit dated compared to the new offerings, but IMHO it offers a great truck ride and for the price is a much better bargain that the Taco, Ranger and GM twins. Love that it has a simpler NA V6 under the hood, should last a lot longer than any turbo offerings. I loved the look of the new Canyon/Colorado, but after seeing all the issues with those trucks bricking after getting over the air updates, I dropped them from consideration. The new Taco looks really great as well, but the dealers are marking them up considerably in addition to all the add-ons that I didn't want. Ford quality issues made me rule out the Ranger. Overall the price/quality of the truck compared to the others persuaded me to get this one over other mid-size ones. Thanks
The new Ranger is m.i.a. to date. Makes me wonder why. It's cool that it's related to the VW Amarok.The Ridgeline, especially for 24 has great fit/finish, but I'm not liking the shallow bed so much. Toyota has gone insane. GM is frightening. That leaves the Frontier. One can only hope resale value goes up in the future.
I just bought a 22 pro4x with 10,000 miles in it. I traded a 2015 Tacoma trd sport for it. The pro 4x feels light years ahead of that truck. The only thing that Tacoma had was a proven bullet proof drive train, other than that it was the most dangerous vehicle I’ve driven in the snow…by far. Plus the cabin noise and stiffness of the ride, along with the horrible seats just made it unbearable anymore. I really really like this pro 4x. I’m 6’6” and 280lbs, so I’m a bit larger than any reviewer I’ve seen do a video on it and I find the nitpicks to be just that. I can reach the steering wheel just fine with the seat fully pushed back. I have plenty of leg room and I don’t find the steering heavy at all. It’s got some weight, but feels nice to me.
Sick to death of hearing you say Dated, something can be said for reliability of a simpler design and lower cost. Oh dear a manual rocker switch for my heated seats, would you prefer a touch screen setup that you have to page through multiple screens to find the setting every time like in a Ford Edge? When one of those wizbang modern features stops working and you have to replace the whole touch screen infotainment system you'll be sorry. I would rather have a simpler V6 engine than a "modern Turbo" screaming for its life every minute anyday.
The torque argument is a non-issue. It's so funny that you just focus on that.. this truck has more torque than the outgoing Tacoma. It has a solid 3.8 6 cylinder that should last no fear of turbo issues. It has more torque than my hybrid electric. Maverick which moves!!! It has more torque than any of the non-turbo 4 cylinders out there. In today's world we are trading turbo 4s with increased oil change intervals, higher maintenance costs, oil dilution by gasoline blow by, in some cases increased carbon intake valve issues with no easy way to clean them because of the turbo fragility. So my assessment is torque is such a small part of this conversation.
Bought a used 2022 Pro4x for 36,000 with 14,700 miles. Looks brand new runs great. I’m very happy so far. I bought at the end of the month and wasn’t desperate. Owned a 2019 Tacoma and this is what I should have had. Better gas mileage and transmission feels like it’s in the right gear. Averaging close to 18 mpg in a hilly area don’t pounds on the gas and it gets good mpg’s in the flats. Will upgrade to better shocks long term prefer a little stiffer suspension around town.
If you want car like buy a car if you want truck Nissan Frontier it is. Difference between 2022 and 2023 Frontiers is the steering which was updated from hydraulic power steering to engine speed sensitive hydraulic power steering and at low speed turn I was pleasantly surprised I got none of that reviews of heavy steering. immersive driving is only possible with hydraulic power steering that’s why race car drivers love it
I saw a 2023 pro 4x for sale a couple weeks ago near my area and I should have bought it, the price was honestly a steal and it had a very clean title, and only 8k miles on it. Not surprised it sold so quickly, wish I would have jumped on it

I'm dating myself.... but I lived thru the 80s and 90s, and the 'power of a V8 with MPG of a 4 cylinder' Turbos.... No thanks. Now Toyota is backtracking the purpose of the twin turbos on the Tundras "it's not about efficiency but torque'. Sure and Toyota and Ford are having issues with the turbo V6s. In a few years, they'll come out with V6s, offering smoothness and longevity. You can't convince me that that complexity of a Turbo, along with hybrid batteries and extra motors is better than a V6. Then price out a new Tacoma, add in dealer markup and you're at $60k for a midsize truck??? LOL
Price and lease is winning on this one right now. My 2021 TRD Off Road, leather, sunroof, heated seats is coming off lease mid-April. Leased at $1,000 out of pocket, $338/mo., 10,000 miles. Currently about 9,000 miles under. Was totally figuring I would get the same model in a 2024 Tacoma but disappointingly it seems to have priced itself out of consideration. Speccing the new one out the same as mine, it’s now over $55,000 which is $10,000 more. And the lease, at least according to the Toyota website, seems unreasonably high…it’s saying $6,000 down, $680 month which is crazy imo. Especially compared to what I just had. Colorado is not as bad but unreasonably high as well. It’s better on the price but has a low residual value making the lease too high. Nissan Pro4X seems to be the only one that is reasonable in both price and lease so that’s where we’re currently leaning. We test drove one and liked it much more than we expected. Seems to be quite a delay in production of Tacoma as well which isn’t helping matters. The Nissan is plentiful atm.
The historic residual values on the Frontier have not been too good. Since I ended up buying and not leasing one and plan on keeping it a long time, I figured it doesn't hurt me that much.
@@SeabrookIslander The Nissan is the only one atm that has a reasonable lease. Which means the difference between the price and the residual is less. Or in other words the residual is better. Whether they are right or wrong on the residual makes no difference to me atm since I’d likely just be giving it back to them anyway. Fwiw my current Tacoma the residual was spot on. Buying it is a fair option but my payments would be about $100 more a month compared to leasing the new Nissan.
Started to see more and more reviews of the Frontier pop up on my recommended videos. I think the best thing is you're like the third or fourth guy who points out how easy it is to reach into the bed. Did you time it with the fleet vehicle going past? Because I'm starting to see some fleets move from the Ford Ranger to this, no doubt because its easier for those people/tradesmen to just dump a bucket of stuff on the side and then pull it out without stepping on the wheel or opening the tailgate and reaching in. I have a 2022 SV 4x4 in Green bought new in Oct 2021, already have 35k miles with maybe 30-35 of them on forestry roads and one 'light' off road trail. Loving it so far, plans is to pay it off before I do anything too drastic to it.
The reason why the reason why people like Nissan is because they're not super techy because normal people realize that tech is not always the greatest especially when it comes to an e-brake because if that for whatever reason decides that it doesn't want to unlock then what do you do. Call the tow also which e-brake is much cheaper to replace.
If you added the nismo upgrades billstien reservoir shocks with lift kit light weight wheels & maybe optional rear light bar it'd not only compete much better off road & ride better on the highway it'd still be cheaper than top line competition it's an honest truck you don't have to go through your apps to turn lights on & off high tech is great for cellphones & Tesla's pickup trucks need switches buttons a real hydraulic steering system a real automatic transmission designed by Mercedes Benz & licensed for frontier ten or 20 years later the Nissan will keep going strong it's the kiss system keep it simple stupid again not all of us want to drive a laptop some want a strong reliable truck car play is more than enough tech
No had any transmission issues with the truck. Smooth shifting and no hesitation. Perhaps there were some bugs in the 22 model year. I have a 23 and think the engine/transmission matchup is pretty good
Should an engine bay get that dirty after four-wheeling? I would hate to have to spray water on the engine bay to clean it: What about all the electronics that could short circuit because of the need to get rid of all that dirt?
I would much rather take the Frontier over a Tacoma!! Oh wait... I did have a 2010 Tacoma, it didnt even last 100,000 miles. I Traded it for a 2023 Nissan Titan Pro-4x. I absolutely love the Titan!! Such a well built truck!! So overrated!! Some guys say its a shit truck but when it outlasts their trucks, ill be laughing 😂
When it comes to engineering - proven designs work. Tacoma and Tundra of this last re-design is a joke and a travesty on the consumers pocket. They're being forced to buy back their own trucks under the lemon laws... while this simple yet dependable Frontier just chugs along. Ridgeline is actually very capable and has 1500lbs of cargo payload. That's a lot.
You can also get a V6 in a Gladiator...try doing your homework. The Turbo charged 4s is why this truck is selling like hotcakes...real truck drivers are looking for simplicity not the turbo crap that the others are making.

I do like the dash,better than the electronic dash. Electronic dash if it brakes will cost lot more to replace .
Plus the fact it is built in the usa.

Just bought my 4th Frontier. I don’t like the Toyotas. Nice but overpriced and the fan club is rude.
At dealers they are a lot more than 2k cheaper than a GMC or Chevy.

The back seat sucks. Other than that this truck is pretty much gold. Except for the auto start stop. Once shut off it should stay off

Professional detailers could absolutely take care of that for you. The best method of cleaning would most likely be steam.
You can very lightly spray mist and clean the engine..
