    If some women are not comfortable wearing saree but feel most confident wearing a western suit, she can't do that without being judged as she has the peer pressure of following a biased dress code. I know men (a majority of them) won't feel comfortable sitting in an interview in a dhoti. Same is the case with alot of women who have grown up NOT wearing indian attire on day to day basis. This is like an attack on freedom of choice tbh. It's bad for men too. A man cannot wear dhoti in an interview even if he wants to in fear of being judged. But the thing is, the number of those kind of men is comparatively very less. Who cares anyway, right? Afterall molding the comfort of women is a norm in this society

      considering the exam, which is a civil service exam, dont you think the interviewee's mindset matters more than what they wear?

    It's not about why can't a woman wear western or clothes of her own choice. It's just that for every ocassion we need to chose what fits appropriately. Girls prefer lehenga gowns and sarees or traditional wear in weddings.. saree in farewell.. western in after-party and birthdays... We wear uniform for school... Female Pilates and police officers have their own dress code.... In the same way saree and suits are preferred for interviews
    Tanu Ma'am is saying absolutely correct.. and for those who face problems in saree or suit.. she even said clearly that if they are confident they can wear western formal wear
    Debating on why can't we wear clothes of our choice is so childish
    Go on a trip or tour and wear clothes of your choice.. no person will stop you from doing that.
    NOTE: The above comment is in reference to debate on women wearing western or saree or anything else
    It's not about if women are asked to wear saree then men should have asked to wear dhoti.
    The two topics are totally different.

      @sandrarhari Před měsícem +1

      In the first lines itself you've made it clear that for a wedding function girls prefer lehenga, gown etc... It is a preference there. Preference definitely becomes their choice. However, asking someone to wear what they don't like to isn't a choice. A person must be judged by his/her character and how good he/she is at his/her work. Not merely by the clothes they wear, despite it being hygienic. This is a kind of conditioning where we correlate formal clothes with discipline and professionalism. Before in Kerala, it was mandatory for govt school teachers to wear saree in the name of discipline, professionalism and so on. But now it has gradually changed where teachers can be in any other attire too. Before it was a must for students to braid their hairs to school, it being the way to showcase discipline. There has been discussions on this issue here in Kerala as braiding was mandatory even if the hairs was wet. The purpose of addressing your senior officers or boss as sir/madam is also being questioned by even some ias officers itself here in Kerala.
      So yes, the mindset of the coming generation are changing for the good at a faster pace. And there will definitely be a day when society as a whole will start looking at this from a different perspective as that is what we've have seen in the history too regarding various other erstwhile discipline norms❤

      @@sshreya0820 I've read through the lines, dear. 'Go on a trip or tour and wear clothes of your choice' 'if they are confident they can wear western formal wear' 'Debating on wearing clothes of your choice is childish'
      All these are the sentences that made me think and write about.
      Is it that only when you are on a trip you can be on a clothing of your choice? What is the so-called 'formal' wear? I think it's high time the perspective on putting things unnecessarily into boxes in the name of being formal and decent changes. Once Zuckerburg, the founder of Facebook was criticised for wearing a hoodie to a highly professional business meeting. Yet, he was always the Zuckerburg. From my point of view, this 'wearing formal to meeting or interview' stuff has to change sooner or later. And how can 'debating on why we can't wear clothes of our choice' become childish while you still have people even those ones who are educated, qualified and at higher positions judge others on the basis of their clothing? Even when they say it is not mandatory to follow a dress code, they do judge you and their demeanour will differ accordingly.

    What should be for Muslim girls ?

  • @priyankapriyadarsanigiri2278

    The Saree wearing style is almost same in all the states . So girls of all the states can have a similar look without any controversy. But wearing dhoti is not common to all the states . Bengal and Odisha people wear same dhoti style but in Kerala Tamil Nadu they wear it differently also in many states dhoti is not worn by men they wear different traditional attire like In Rajasthan they prefer poshak , similarly in Jammu and Northeastern states ,the dhoti draping style is also different. This would create a controversy. To prevent such issues men wear the western shirt pant . Its not mandatory for girls also to wear saree, they can wear salwar/ suit/ saree. Bcz the styling is same for all women.

I agree with jewellery should be moderate. Well dressed person is appreciated. Poorly dressed person looks shabby. The type of clothing you speak does not suit everyone.
