This yellow grass is called "ichu", it´s a a food for llamas, alpacas and vicuñas. This is the only plant could grow in there altitude.
The Trees from the species Polylepis can grow at that altitude, but it all was deforested when Spain came to Peru

*Message to People of Cusco* Most of those Hills had Tree before the arrival of Spain to Peru 🇵🇪 It is our duty to reforest with native trees as Chachacomo, Queñual, Pisonay, Aliso, Cedro de Altura, etc. They grow depending on the Altitude and type of soil. No more Eucalipts and Pine
Every time I go I tell my guide You all need more trees so I can breathe! Lol

The eucalipts (i haven't seen pines when I go to the countryside) are grown by the campesino comunities because they are profitable.
Queñua has a ban in it's extraction and trade so ... , other ones I have no idea.
But yeah, I bet there are initiatives to plant more of those trees, to prevent soil degradation for example.
Dr. Nosborn, Pisonay is a beautiful tree and is only seen in some main square of some few towns Chachacomo or Chachacoma was depredated because it has a very hard wood, was used for making gears made of wood . Aliso usually grows next to a River. You are right we need more high elevation trees as Queñual for the preservation of water and soil . This way we will not see dry landscape around Cusco in this months as July , August & September , October

I hope you can go to Ollantaytambo too (a lot of ruins). A especial mountain Wakrapukra, etc. Omg, really really you have a lot of places to go. Now maybe it could be not to much green for the weather but, its amazing at the same time. Continue enjoying it.

Lovely video, you brought back many memories, I am a biologist who studied vicuña in the mountains for many years (the ones you pointed out are alpaca btw). It’s beautiful, so silent, such blue sky and blue water, thin clean air, cold wind, and incredible big-hearted kind people. I love it and miss it so much.

The Alpaca at minute 14:48 has been sheared for obtaining the wool . I have always recommended to shear them, but not too much , leaving at least 1.5 inch of wool left behind = 4 cms

Oh guys you make me cry today. When I was young I started travelling around my country as a travel agent but terrorism was in place so my mother begged me to stop travelling. Now when I see the places you are going I feel that I lost the opportunity to visit incredible places. Even I was many times in Cusco I've never been in these places. Peru has beautiful lakes, in Huaraz you can find some too. Stunning views as usual and your place looks a piece of heaven, very peaceful 😍🥰 looks like you have a looong honeymoon 😜

That poncho with llamas is beautiful and wearing it in a place where llamas and alpacas live makes a nice scene.

Quick tip on hiking at high altitudes. Avoid breathing in with your mouth as much as possible. It will dry out your throat and will make breathing much more difficult. Breath using only your nose. And when you feel exhausted just breath in deeper. It should get more oxigen into your blood compensating for the low pressure in high lands

the vicuñas are known for their soft hair. vicuñas produce small amounts of extremely fine wool, which is very expensive. you are so lucky to visit all these beautiful places.

4 following year visiting Cusco, and really i did not know about it. Lo que sorprende es q estas bellezas de lagunas no tengan tours desde Cusco ciudad como lo tiene la Laguna de Humantay, oh la montaña de 7 colores. Realmente estos lagos, el paisaje, los animales son increibles!. Hay tanto por generar turismo en este pais, q visiten solo 5 millones al año es poquisimo para el poderio q tenemos en turismo. Nos falta muchisimo por invertir, por hacer calidad para el turista, marketing, falicidades, aeropuertos, etc etc. Que hermoso es el Cusco!. Es lo q mas amo de este pais!!
En realidad, creo que es mucho mejor que no haya tanto turismo a esas áreas, de ese modo se pueden mantener así, tan hermosas.
Lamentablemente, el grueso de turistas (nacionales o extranjeros) no son precisamente cuidadosos y/o respetuosos del lugar que visitan.
