The lyric “then one night as I closed my eyes” symbolises him dying. “He came to me with the sweetest smile, and told me he wanted to talk for a while, Peter- pan thats what they call me. I promise that you’ll never be lonely.” To me that’s God talking to him. Saying that everything is okay now. And he’s safe. In the next verse the song says, “as we flew above the town that never loved me I relized that I finially had a family.” This kind of means he’s going to Heaven to me. “And peacefully my feet hit the sand” just makes it more obvious. “Neverland I love you so you are now my home sweet home forever a lost boy AT LAST.” He says at last just supporting my statement that he was depressed and he is finally escaping everything. Everyone is entitled to their opinion but I don't think the song is about suicide at all. The moon sometimes going away is just a play on the moon setting. Closing his eyes just means entering a dream, Peter-Pan is a figment of his dream. I feel the rest is really just about finding friendship in his dreams and that dreams allow us to visit alternate realities to our own. So to finish I feel the song is more about finding yourself in your dreams and following your dreams to become reality.
