@@MrMrPopols Not necessarily true. Obviously, I am not speaking from experience as there is no real way to compare difficulty unless I was simultaneously a native Chinese speaker who tried learning another language and a speaker of another language trying to learn a Chinese language, but the reason why Chinese is so difficult is because it is tonal. As I said, I don't know of the difficulties a person would face that only knows tonal languages while trying to learn a non-tonal language, but it is very unlikely that the challenge is equal. Another thing to note is that google seems to agree with me that tonal speakers don't have that much trouble with non-tonal languages.

China literally has thousands of dialects, and unlike English 'dialects', they actually can't communicate with each other verbally in most cases. That's why everyone in China is encouraged to learn Mandarin, which is itself just another dialect (from the Beijing area).

With so many Americans being intentionally and belligerently ignorant in the language department, it was always a breath of fresh air to see one of us learning to communicate (and doing so super well) with so many people in their native tongues. (and probably one of my favourites now for listening practice and to cheer me up when I feel like my learning isn't getting better!!). Everyone is like this in my experience. Chinese people are often surprised to hear westerners speak even if rubbish like me!
I know he gets a lot of flack for his film titles and whatnot. But, you, me and others will be able to learn from listening to his films forever.
