As a totally blind guy, I am acutely aware of physical stress on the body, I’m not saying, that the constant pushing of my fight and flight system caused my IBD, but I’m pretty sure it’s a big part of the jigsaw.. Thanks for looking into this Charlie, it does have legs and will definitely help a lot of people in the long run

It's such a shame that the NHS and British Politicians have caused this problem, where the system is pushed beyond what's healthy. The NHS and the politicians in the way they spend the money. But, especially the politicians in the way they make sure the most privileged and elite wealthy are looked after at the expense of everyone else :( COVID didn't help but the system was broken before this happened.
Thank you for your hard work and diligence Charlie and colleagues! It's a very broken system but your work and dedication is hugely valued by the people you treat.

Previous cuts have been too far. You see in the immigration service, for example, that even if money is put back in that you cannot build the expertise that was cut away overnight. In fact, processing of asylum claims became slower with increased staff due to training needed. The cuts of the austerity years have been a false economy

Stress is a definite trigger for me.
I would add that some form of mental health assessment before prescribing steroids would have prevented a lot of problems for me.

Mental health support will not reduce the inflammation quickly as Steroids does. Both have to be done in parallel. The shift that needs to happen in Western medicine is to treat the body as a whole system. For me, long-term stress was the reason for my IBD.

@wasimhakam4160 I think you've misunderstood my point. I already had mental health issues which were exacerbated by steroids, leading to a crisis.
There is a suicide risk with steroids, but an IBD hub will, in my experience, not be particularly interested in patients reporting mood issues. In my case they told me to stay on medication, but then covered themselves by writing to my GP and saying I'd not expressed any thoughts of suicide.
The mental health aspect with steroids is given lip service, in my experience

Firefighting whether in a healthcare situation or any other other environment is no good at all. As you say, you don't get time to properly diagnose or even learn off each other.
