1:02 Yes, the old Magirus! We didn't say "air-cooled", we said "noise-cooled". The cooling turbines in the older Magirus were sometimes as loud as an air-raid siren. In the Army I drove a Faun 912 with a 16 litre V12 air-cooled Deutz engine, during night exercises I never knew how to camouflage that blasted noise, the "enemy" could hear it furlong after furlong.

I always loved to see the multi-axle FIAT trucks in Italy. Didn't know that they had changed their name to Fait, though.

A few more seconds on each picture would be nice. I only just get time to read the registrations, by the time I get to checking out liveries it's on to the next picture. Great video still.

Magerus Deutz, Where they ahead of their time, Nearside pedestrian window in the door, Air-cooled, In its time, not a bad cab, only had one for a month or two so I don't really know what I'm
talking about. As always interesting photos, Thank you.

The pedestrian windows were due to regulations in France. You are right, a most useful idea. Now after a horrible amount of bruised and killed bikers and pedestrians, the European sleepyheads are reindrotucing these windows. I drove a Henschel with that window, it was such an easement.
      Cheers!

I remember the high low collar on the gear shift not working
Had to drag it back empty in high range, A lot of clutch slipping but we got to depot for repairs. Trev.

I had similiar trouble, not on a Deutz but on MAN. All of a sudden I couldn't press down the clutch pedal and the splitter was in high range, of course in a narrow village.

@@franzbranntewein1534 MAN, Normally a nice reliable truck unlike the similar cabbed SAVIEM I had. You needed strong fingers in the morning to hold the ignition key against the spring to get preheat. Column change box, I think a 230 engine, 6-speed gearbox, It would just about pull in those days 32 tons Gross, but at least it had a bed in the back.
It would break down most weeks. And they told us it was the good old days Franz.
