    This Romance Without Words is a mellifluous rare gem! The canon section in the middle is especially gorgeous.

      Well, even though this is a romantic piece, Faure is usually considered a composer of the Nationalism period, which coincided with the Romantic Period, because he incorporated a lot of folk themes from his own country, much like Sibelius or Dvorak.

  • @idkrossplay
    @idkrossplay Před 2 lety +8

    Nice performance! I know it's old but I just wanted to point out a few things maybe you could consider,
    You bring out the melody really well, but you're playing pretty slowly. If I recall correctly, it's andante moderato, but it sounds like you're playing 40-50 bpm. This works for the bass, the problem is that the melody feels like it drags because of this. Try singing the melody at 70-80 bpm and you will see how it can really sing out. (Compare your initial tempo to 1:08, you want to speed up but you can't, so just start faster)
    Make sure you're imposing each beat so your rhythms are connected better, you tend to rush near the ends of chord changes. Tap the beat while listening to your recording, you will hear that it's hard to predict each beat, that's why you should impose the beat more so it's easier to tell where it's going to be instead of suddenly dragging or speeding up
    This piece is impressionistic music, not classical, so you don't have to be so strict on the rhythms. On that note, there are times you give a lot of time but never take it from anywhere, like at the ends of long phrases.
    Sometimes you aren't accenting the 16th notes very well in the melody and it sounds choppy, the eight notes sound great so just make the 16ths sound like that too.
    When you're playing crescendos you tend to attack the notes more to increase volume, this creates a sharp percussive sound, so instead you should lean into the phrases for smoother dynamics.
    For the left hand, you should bring out the bass notes more by making the 16th notes softer and faster, and giving more time to the bass notes, almost as if they're dotted but still imposing the beat.
    When you're phrasing the SATB section, make sure to listen to the alto voice so you can phrase the voices together more smoothly, that section was pretty good though.
    In the recapitulation, the counter melody above the original theme is marked double piano (2:13), so make sure you don't emphasize it, it's more of an embellishment. Make sure to bring out the melody (lower notes) when it's played with the counter melody. Sing the melody if you're having trouble doing that.
    For the rolled chords at the end, really listen to both hands to make sure it's as smooth as pretty as possible, and keep imposing the beat
    In the SATB section, you tie the Eb, 1:40, and the reason you don't want to do that is because it puts too much emphasis on the alto line which isn't the important line
    Again nice performance, paying attention to small things like these can bring your playing to the next level though

    I’m curious which edition of the piece you are performing from. The edition I’m using is edited by Hinson, who suggests some oddly-phrased pedaling and extensive use of the una corda pedal throughout. I’m trying to find some clarification on this. (Although, if you performed this on an electric piano that’s a moot point.)

      It is plain to hear and see that you play from the heart. It stands out a mile and it's truly remarkable that you have reached these dizzying heights on your own, self taught. I'm self taught myself but with all the hours sitting at my piano I can never envisage myself playing anything at all as well as you do. There are so many so called pianists on line selling their expertise. Some are good and I pay for help from them. Antoine Herve is one of my favourites at the moment. He has a great teaching skill and he's also a great player with a bit of humour. If you could do something similar for your style of playing then there's no doubt youd get people only too happy to pay to learn from you. Your totally amazing.

    • @edwardmorton6691
      @edwardmorton6691 Před 5 lety

      GoLong 76 Why is it a moot point? Digital pianos have una cords pedals sustain pedals and sustenuto pedals if that's what you mean and they do perform the same influence on the notes being played, albeit digitally as opposed to mechanically.

      This piece is marked ‘Andante moderato’, but different people would interpret ‘Andante moderato’ differently. One could argue that there’s no such thing as the ‘original’ tempo. Music is up to the player to interpret it, after all. I suggest playing this in a way that's most comfortable for you, so that the music can be genuine. :)

    Such a wonderful pianist....someone needs to buy him a real piano so he does not have to play this digital instrument.
