I am a child of the post-communist era. Since the Russians are the closest nation to my nation, I see many similarities between us. So in the 90s democracy came. In reality it was us losing a war. And the West treated us as defeteat countries. Lucky for our bratushki in Russia, they got Putin - the first man in their elite to realize that the West doesn't want allies and friends, it wants obedience, servants and to change our life, culture, traditions and everything. Under Putin Russia is successfully battling the demographic crisis, has risen from the ashes to be a world power again. Under democracy and EU/NATO my country dropped with 2 million people and I suppose we have no more than 10 years before we will be overrun by Muslims and Roma people.... So much for the truth. Democracy is just a weapon for westerners to colonize Eastern Europe. By democracy I mean liberal democracy...

Russia, a mediocre country and an unstable one. Depression rates: Low. Patriotism: High. Knowledge of History of USSR: High.
Russian citizens are more happier than America's. Why? It's not money that makes people happy. Poorer countries are always happier than richer ones. And that's a fact. Putin doesn't care about how much money Russia makes, he cares about how happy his people can be. And clearly, he's doing wonders.

Bared People in poverty also tend to be less educated. When a nation drills its history into its citizens, to put fear into them for the purpose of control, of course those citizens know the history well. This happiness you claim the Russian people have is a facade, when you look behind the mask you see a nation run by a deceptive tyrant. America is flawed and corrupt in many ways, like Russia. The difference is that here in America, you can actually have an opinion on your leaders without being killed, or arrested. Here in America we’re not forced to say that it’s the greatest nation in the world. Go ahead and ask the Mother in Zambia that struggles to feed her children because she doesn’t have enough money, if she’s happy. Why should you be proud of a leader that lies to, and controls his people. Why should you be proud of a leader that would be happy to see any Russian citizen that dares to question his leadership, dead. Why would you be proud of a leader that does such horrible actions, which when the evidence is clear, he denies any involvement. Doesn’t sound like a leader at all, sounds like a despicable criminal, and a dictator.

As a Russian, what I will lose if Putin gets couped like what happened in Ukraine:
    1. We have free medicine - a legacy from the Soviet era. I don't want that scary stories from US where an ambulance call costs $1000. We called ambulance so many times and we don't have second thoughts on it.
1a. If a child is ill - our doctor can visit us and call on phone to ask how my daughter feels today.
1b. If we need an surgery - it's going to happen for free. If you need some imported stuff - you may buy it at your expense, or wait in line - but that's what happens, let's say in UK as well
    2. We have free education. This means that a Hollywood phrase "We are accumulating money for your college" means that child can't pass exams on his own and he have to learn in the University for money. And paid education means that you're not smart enough to make it on your head alone.
    3. Our school education is better than everywhere else. US's school education is incomparable with Russian in terms of math and natural sciences. This is, again, legacy of USSR
    4. Our taxes are one of the lowest in the world. Even they have discounts. For example, I have my own IT company and that kind of companies have benefits in tax code. All I have to pay is a small amount per year.
Will any of that stay if Putin goes?
Well, of course not. We'll get taxed in a european/american way, we'll get rid of the free medicine, and probably, but not necessary, education will go down to American standards - first - in schools and then in terms of free education possibility for everyone.
Add here a civil war, at least in one infamous caucasian region which will not serve under any other dude than Putin.
Do we want to pay this price for.. Errm.. Getting rid of corruption?
Everybody who thinks so forget about who Russian are.
We are corruption. I know vicious anti-Putinist who work on a corruption scheme. People despite having lowest taxes, avoiding it by having unofficial salaries.
Getting rid of corruption would be great, but that's not the price worth it

@Vlad Alexeev: I get it, Putin stands for stability after the turmoil of the Yeltzin years, and no Russian wants to repeat that experience.
But there will come a time when the Putin era will be over. And when that times comes and there are no civil institutions left and noone wants to fight for what's right, it *will be just like* *the Yeltzin years again*, just with different oligarchs fighting for the seat of unlimited power that Putin is creating currently and will be evacuating eventually.
And we Europeans are concerned about that, as we have seen it happen too many time in our own countries. In this globalized world, noone can escape unscathed when another country implodes, so we are not only concerned for you but also for ourselves.

You are not actually backing up Russia in the Soviet era are you? You think Russia's poor now, back then bread lines were everywhere, the country was a prison. Russia's GDP is 1.8 trillion dollars. The US is over 20 trillion dollars. You see the difference? Don't even compare hospitals. That's just silly. England has a bigger GDP, and it's the size of Texas.Russians used to have to escape to get out of the USSR. Escaping from your own country. Nice.

vin russo what you said is relative, but subjective info.
Yes, Russians used to leave USSR because they were not allowed to travel beyond the borders for a long time and when they finally were allowed they decided to leave.
Many left and many came back. And many immigrants came to Russia.
You can’t really compare American and Russian salaries and income. Because American life style is very over priced.
To be fair you have to compare what is the percent of Americans and Russians living in debt.

Its interesting that you have chosen that exact region of Russia. Of course they have to work hard to sustain their tiny townships, but is it any different in Alaska or Nunavut (Canada)? No. I don't see western media giving this kind of treatment to any other countries besides North Korea. Have any of you ever seen an article about Congo's child solider issue on the front pages? How about Myanmar's Rohinga Muslim crisis? Pretty sure you haven't. I appreciate the fact that Russia is more of a potential economic and militaristic threat to the States, but still its portrayal in the media is a hyperbolic exaggeration filled to the brim with the tiniest scraps of supporting evidence they could dig up in Russia. I bet that if the United States was shown in the same light in media there would be a lot more to talk about than Russia. I acknowledge that what I have wrote here won't make even the tiniest dent in the west's anti-Russia campaign, but I still hope that some people can come to their senses and stop having the government coerce their decisions, thoughts and opinions for them.

The reason why all those kids were marching around was because they were preparing for a show for the 9th of May. It is a celebration of the defeat of the Reich in Europe during the second world war, and is a very important event in Russian culture, having about the same gravity as the fourth of July or when your favourite team wins the Superbowl. If you look closely, the children are not completely in step (marching at the same time), demonstrating that this is not a common practice in Russia to do this besides in programs like Cadets or Scouts.

Must be nice to believe in your own country, even if the grounds for that are shaky. Having pride in something you are part of can be motivational.
National pride has to be tempered in England or you're accused of being a bigot.

Grounds for that belief are rather stable nowdays. It was 20 years ago, with Yeltsin, when a 'patriot' was an insult.

@@andreinastase1604 Well, especially while Biden is in charge, I wouldn't want to be friends with America. I do hope our States get great leadership again so that maybe one day we could be comrades.
