1970 Plymouth Duster Hemi Funny Car Dragster 1/24 Scale Model Kit Build How To Assemble Paint Decal Revell USA Flashpoint 854528 4528 14528 rmx4528 85-4528
Sunday! Sunday! Sunday! Funny cars first appeared on dragstrips in the mid-1960s, and within a few short years these super-hot “floppers” were fan favorites. This classic 1/24-scale funny car kit features cutting-edge early-1970s technology including a state-of-the-art tubular funny car frame, a blown 426 HEMI engine, “zoomie” exhaust headers, and wrinkle-wall rear drag slicks. Revell was there and we clearly remember the glory days of funny cars, so we believe that you’ll enjoy building Flashpoint. It’s our new vintage-inspired hot rod that’s ready to burn down the strip with its one- piece ’70 Duster body, rooftop emergency lights, and a wild all-new fire-themed decal sheet.
    Features
One-piece lift-up 1970 Plymouth Duster funny car body.
    Easy-to-assemble fully detailed tube frame.
Blown-and-injected 426 HEMI race engine with a soT rubber blower drive belt
Big all-new decal sheet featuring metallic gold Flashpoint lettering.
Vintage-style emergency light bar with loud speaker.
Molded in white and clear with chrome plated parts and black vinyl tires.
The original Plymouth Duster is a semi-fastback two-door coupe version of the compact-sized Plymouth Valiant automobile that was marketed by Plymouth in the U.S. from 1970 to 1976 model years.
The Duster coupe provided the compact-sized Plymouth Valiant with a sporty body style to attract customers.[4] The car was a $15 million effort to update the Valiant for the 1970 model year.[1] The Valiant badge appeared only on the first model year Dusters, and continued to be used on all the companion 4-door sedan and 2-door Valiant Scamp hardtop models. The Duster was built on the Valiant platform and shared the same front end sheet metal, but featured a different design from the cowl back.
The Duster was also positioned to compete with Ford's slightly smaller semi-fastback Maverick compact car and the AMC Hornet that were both also introduced in 1970, and the slightly larger semi-fastback Chevrolet Nova whose design was introduced in 1968.[2] While the Maverick, Hornet, and Nova were offered in a 4-door sedan body style, the Duster nameplate was used only for the 2-door coupe. The Duster was also marketed as an alternative to the original Volkswagen Beetle, as well as the new class of domestic subcompact cars such as the Chevrolet Vega.[1][5][6]
Numerous trim and option package variants of the Duster were offered with names that included Feather Duster, Gold Duster, Silver Duster, Space Duster, Duster Twister, Duster 340, and Duster 360. These marketing variations of the basic Duster design targeted customers seeking economy, cargo capacity, and/or performance.
After failed negotiations with Warner Brothers for use of the Tasmanian Devil cartoon, the Duster's "twister" logo and font logo was created by Chrysler's Thomas Bertsch (1952-1987). Bertsch was the director of the interior styling and design studio for much of his career. Many corresponding graphics were used for different trim packages over the years.

This was originally the Mongoose kit from 1970. The two types of injector set ups were for either the Snake or Mongoose kits. They are not used together. The Snake kit used the more traditional 3 port "Bird Catcher" scoop. Mongoose used the 4 port Hilborn style. Monogram put both on the chrome sprue.

Great kit. I built the original "Cop Out" back in the 70's. I'm now amazed I was able to assemble the frame rail as a adolescent. It definitely takes patience. I love the two tone paint scheme. I cringed when I heard the finished kit hit the floor. Whew! you dodged a bullet with only a couple of loose pieces. I purchased a rebox of the Cop Out from the 90's last year for my collection. I've been looking at this kit and I'm ordering one tonight. Another great build. Loving the channel. Thanks!

I thought you were going to lose it on the frame build up but you recovered nicely.

Great job, Chris. As others have pointed out, this started out in life as Tom McEwen's Mongoose Duster back in 1970. I built that kit as a young lad. Now long gone, I intend to order some Slixx Mongoose decals, which are sized for this kit and build it once again, more than 50 years later. Who says you can't go back again? Cheers!

I do not have this kit but, the original Tom McEwen Duster! The top of the injectors uses the plate (riser), the scoop was on the tree for, the "Snake" Don Prudome Cuda kit (a shared runner) in the kits! I gasped when you dropped the frame Chris!

This was originally called "COP OUT" like an old LAPD black and White. I must have built this car 3 times. I bought it 1 time just for the police lights and engine. This is a fun model but it certainly is a challenge if you make it with posable steering.
    Cheers!

When you said the other day you were working on a car with a three tone paint scheme, I didn't anticipate it would be this one. Again it looks great and this is an interesting and intricate model to put together.

Maybe the black E6000 adhesive could be used to fill the tire seams a little better. I think I bought it at Hobby Lobby or maybe Ace.

Those tyres are a good idea but why haven't they changed to hard styrene, not that horrible polythene.😭 Also,if the tyre moulds are the same ,one tyre crinkles going forwards but the other side will crinkle backwards,as the parts are the same and not directional😭🤔. Not your fault your build looks great👍. 👍😎Pete 🤓
