Isn't it more ACCURATE to say STRAIGHT WALL CARTRIDGE ,,, cuz I know you can use rifles that shoot straight wall cartridges in 9 out of those 10 states....
You need a fully rifled barrel slug gun & shoot LIGHT FIELD SLUGS for rifled barrels,,, you will be shooting 300yds and never second guess slug guns again......
Heck out ? You type about as good as me lol 😝
Great video. After using this scope for a while you would remember all the holds and be real quick on the shot.
Happy hunting brother. 👍
Many places that still only allow shotgun for deer season. So WTW brings out the scoped slug gun, covering a bunch of calibers, platforms, and how they shoot for his fans to learn from. Good stuff WTW, ya da man 🎥👍💯🦾🙏🏻
Don’t most of the places also allow straight wall rifle cartridges? That’s why things like 350 legend and 450 bushmaster came to be.
@@jaydunbar7538 Yes, like here in South Eastern Michigan. I love my 350 legend. I have no intention of hunting deer here with my 12 gauge slug gun EVER again!
@@doctortabby Why? I much prefer slug gun only areas! Can't beat the power of a slug, plus it's so much safer considering the limited range of slugs! I don't get the hunters who don't appreciate the virtues of huge power and short range
@@sawmaster6095 To each his own, I suppose. I guess that's why they make both. Cheers! :-)
@@doctortabby True! But I am genuinely curious as to why? Is it the recoil? The feel of the gun?
Back in the day my Remington 870 had Silver Antler scope on it. It was set at a 100 yards. I shot 3 inch magnum slugs out of it on a rifle choke. It kicked pretty hard.
I have one too, and YES IT DOES! And I will never hunt deer here in South Eastern Michigan with it again! I love my 350 Legend!
That scope works really well. They did a great job on the calibration of the BDC.
That is one of the best groups I ever seen with a slug at 200. There's some powder behind them Hornaday s . Thanks for another great video. Everyone is better than the last.
'I forgot to measure my groups from my Tarhunt using Lightfield IDS slugs at 200 yards, but I've grouped considerably tighter than his 100 yard group at 200. I've gotten nearly 0.5" 5 shot groups with that gun at 100 yards. No that's not a typo. But that Tarhunt RSG comes at quite a cost. And worse yet, Lightfield discontinued their f*cking slugs!!!! I can do 1" 5 shot groups at 100 yards with the Collet Cup Sabot slugs from Gun Servicing LLC, I think (well hope really) they're still in business!
20 guage Remington 1100 with a hastings cantilever barrel and a 3x9 Leupold scope using Winchester partition golds was an absolute tack driver at 100 yards. Many deer dropped their tracks from that gun.....I hate that I sold it and have tried to buy it back several times.
I have a couple of Mossberg 500's in both 12 and 20ga. Each have rifled barrels. Hornady SST's work well in both. The 20ga has a Nikon BDC scope on it and is akin to a sniper rifle.
Thank you for showing us the new slug gun scope, brother. It's nice to see the industry making gear that can take the abuse of a shotgun. I hope everybody's having a good one. 🤙🏾
Abuse is right! I have killed a fair amount of deer with slug guns, but they are brutal, not only to the shoot-ee, but the shoot-er. I hate shooting mine. They have been relegated to back-up defense guns. I plan to hunt deer in South Eastern Michigan with my 350 Legend from here on out.
@@doctortabby I don't blame you. Those slugs always rock my shoulder hard. I picked up buckshot for home defense since I don't have close neighbors or anything. Good luck on the next hunt. 🤙🏾
@@TheGeekiestGuy Thanks! Back at ya! 🙂
Ohio guy here. I’ve personally taken deer at 220, 225 and 230 with those Hornadys through a 70’s model wingmaster 880 with a rifled barrel and a Nikon 2x7 slug master or deer slayer scope. (Can’t remember Its been over a decade). People don’t realize sabots are totally different than slugs for smooth barrels. If I was using a normal slug and smooth barrel, I wouldn’t take a shot past 125ish. There’s no doubt in my mind that round will take a deer ethically at 275-300 based on what I’ve learned being in a crappy state.
Crimson trace scopes are definitely catching more of my attention.
Great shooting WTW! That scope brings a truly awesome opportunity to the deer woods! Thanks for sharing brother!🤘🏽🤘🏽🇺🇸👊🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽
Hope you’re doing good, thanks for the reply other day. A good channel with some of the best guys I talk to on social media. Wishing the Lane family the best of life and good shooting. 👍💯🇺🇸
I'm In lower Michigan and its shot gun. I've used 12 gauge 870 rifled barrel and Remington accue tips. 250 grains. Very accurate and I've shot deer over 200 yards. I 3even dropped a buck at 320. I've been thankful enough to harvest over a 100 white tail.
But upgraded to Ruger American bushmaster 450. 3 years ago and that's 5 for 5 so far.
Brother that scope is money! I love shotguns with slugs and this proves that they can be accurate. I'd love to see it tested with fosters through a smooth barrel, strictly for science, and because they're cheaper! Whoteewho!!!
If that scope is second focal plane if you sighted it in on one power and you crank it up to nine power out at 200 yards it ain't going to be on because of it being second focal plane
Here in Ohio we can use straight walled pistol caliber rifles from 38 to 50 cal
I love 12 gauge with slugs, this scope is spectacular!!!
This will be interesting. I wonder how well they are caliberated & to what slug(s). Lotsa deer in the Midwest are harvested with slug-guns. Very effective at the limited range they have.
You can always calculate the drops for the hold overs based on individual loads.
Awesome out to practical whitetail range Was impressed with the consistency of the ammo out to a 100 Impress With that scope
Man, it is making me flinch and feel the pain in my left shoulder just watching you shoot that thing! I live in South Eastern Michigan and I so do not miss having to shoot those blasted (no pun intended) things during firearm deer season. I have a scope scar from zeroing my 12 gauge 870 slug gun about 20 years ago. I will never hunt with that thing again unless I get some unique opportunity to hunt somewhere where it is all that is allowed. It sits in my gun case nice and warm, snuggled up all cozy against my 50 caliber muzzle-loader during firearm deer season here in Michigan.
I'm surprised at how well it did at 200 yards!😳😳😳👍👍
I worked at a gun shop for a few months last year and we sold ALOT of the Crimson Trace scopes, ppl love them!
I love em
Crimson trace website says it’s for a 12 gauge you know anyone who used this on a 20 gauge
Scopes are nice for slug guns another option I've found that works well is a vortex strike fire 4 moa 30mm tube red dot . I've used both with success
Pretty interessting to see what a slugger is able to! Thanks for sharing !
Been looking for a Slug Gun scope for a long time. Now I've found one. Thank you sir.
Thanks for watching
Indiana now allows the use of high powered rifles on private land. Muzzleloader, Shotgun slug, and straight wall cartridges on public land. Also Iowa and Ohio have legalized the use of straight wall cartridges.
I’m impressed. Great now I need a slug gun. I have a few hundred slugs now I have a reason to have so many.
I've got an old Mossberg 500 with a smooth bore mod choked barrel that is my go to slug gun. I can make clover leafs all day long at 100yds with just a brass front bead. That has to be the best slug gun I've ever shot
I love the Mossies 500 as well, I once shot a four 🍀 leaf clover at Fifty yards but I had to take out a second mortgage on the house to buy more ammo.
Great item very Portable and easy to clean.
This was a really fun video! Thank you.
Thanks for watching!
10:57 damn right, the moment you said we have to do this for science I subscribed.
Thanks for watching
Shotgun are just plain old fashioned fun!🤠
Absolutely
I love my weatherby pa-459, heard good things about the pa-08 too
Very Interesting !!! That Wetherby action sounds smooth as butter 🧈!! ( :
Iowa, you can use pistols, muzzleloaders and straight wall rifles during the shotgun season.
I have heard of Crimson Trace scopes and I heard that they are good
A scope cam would be super cool for this channel!!
Awesome video. I love your slug rig, it’s beautiful
I have one
I've found that the bolt action slug guns are tack drivers but not a pump action although those were good groups for a pump action . yes i live in md.
Indiana is no longer a slug shotgun or muzzleloader only state. For private land we can use rifle cartridges, minimum caliber .243, minimum case length 1.16", maximum case length 3". (Bring on your 500 Jeffery!) For public land minimum caliber .357 (350 Legend qualifies), minimum case length 1.16", maximum case length 1.8".
Im the same with you ….not taking a shot with a slug gun at 200…..I probably wouldnt go past 120. Im in NY and the flatter parts of the state or the highly populated areas are Shotgun only. So when I hunt stateland close to home I use my shotguns….luckily my camp is 100 miles south and in the hilly mountain areas and its rifles. I may buy one of these scopes for my new shotgun which my son uses.
Good to see Technology in bullets and equipment has improved over the last 25 years for slug guns …. I remember when if you hit a 10 inch group you were good with slug guns LOL 😆 I’m not sure how many slug gun states did this or the exact date but I think in 2019 or 2020 they allowed straight wall cartridges rifles like 357 mag 350 legend 41 mag 44 mag 44-40 45 454 casull and 45-70 to be used in some or all them states…. And that is part of the reason and with COVID that Henry Rifles flew off the shelves and haven’t quite been able to recover and replenish stock in stores .
Use a good sled to hold gun. Shoot 1st shot by aiming at dead center of target. Got back and aim at center of target and without moving gun, have another person turn turrets to where 1st bullet hit. 2 bullets to sight in gun.
Nice! Really the 300 grain slug should shoot flatter because it retains it's velocity better. I would be curious as to the muzzle velocity out of your gun. I would guess around 1800-1850 fps providing their scope calibration was done under similiar atmospheric conditions.
Great video man! Quick tip your scope is second focal plane. Changes in scope zoom will effect value (scale) of hold overs. Most scopes like this are at correct reticle value on max zoom.
WHOO_TEE you know im a Remington Pump Action man through and through, more so their Rifles, even if i were right handed i would shoot pumps, but this Pump 12 youve got is a Beauty
AMERICA STRONG
STAY FREE
LONG LIVE THE REPUBLIC
That scope is good stuff!
I am buying this scope for my Savage 220. I hope the eye relief is good. Thanks for the review!
I use the Remington 870 superslugger on ft Campbell in Clarksville TN. Love that gun.
Awesome!
Great information! I’m gonna have to look at that scope. Thanks!!
I consider those groups with a slug gun light’s out all day, every day.
If they would publish what the subtensions were, you could calculate various holdovers for various weight and velocity slugs and put a DOPE chart on your buttstock or on a card hanging from your sling. I have a Burris Scout with BDC and have the ranges for different weight bullets in screenshots on my smartphone. The BDC usually only works for the highest power setting of second focal plane scopes.
You can also use a duplex reticle as a crude BDC and rangefinder if you determine the subtension from the horizontal cross hair to the top of the thick portion of the lower vertical. Tou would see how far it is by knowing a target's diameter or setting a ruler/yardstick on the target face. If that distance is for example, 5 inches at 100 you would know it is about 15 at 300. If a deer's chest fills that space it is about 300 yards away. If you know your bullet, say that Norma Whitetail 30-06 zeroed at 100, you would put the top of that "post" on the deer shoulder at 300 and should get a good hit. Of course crosswinds put more variables in the mix.
It was a fun video, but your bing bang's rear bean bag was not the most cooperative for your group size.
Ohio isn't slug gun only anymore. You can use straight walled cartridges .357 caliber and above. Including 350 legend and 450 bushmaster.
Nice scope and good shooting. I used to shoot slugs across a canyon when I would go qualify, had a heck of a lot of fun doing that. Sorry I missed tonight but had to be on the road. We'll see y'all tomorrow.
This makes me want to see a clay block test at 100 and 200 yards, if you get more ammo. Gotta stay ready for deer season.
Good idea
Dude, that was a really cool video! Lots of fun!
Thanks gunman
I know of places or certain drawn hunts where you can only use 12 ga slug, no buck shot. And some places where you can use only straight wall, like .350 Legend or .450 Bush Master. Even at 2700 fps, they are dropping 52 inches or so at 300 yards. Which is the safety part of them, in a highly populated area.
In my county, the only firearm you can hunt with is shotgun during the bird seasons of eastern spring turkey and the late summer dove (Labor day Weekend is the opener.)
I have a Mossberg 590A1SPX 12 ga smooth bore, which is great for slugs. But I may see if I can change to a threaded barrel for chokes for different upland and turkey.
Looks like you have a good one for 100yds. I agree 200 yds is a stretch. Great looking rig. Thanks for the video!
💪💪
Beautiful gun! Great vid as always.
WI use to have slug only area's. I would take 200 yard shots all the time with my Remy 870 rifled barrel with Hornady SST.
Most of Michigan is a slug gun state also. I have a H and R 20 gauge slug gun and it has the worst groups I’ve ever had out of a gun. I hit about a paper plate size group and 50 yards. And it has a really nice scope on it. I was going to deal with the scope, but I think I’m just gonna buy a 450 bushmaster and be done with it.
A lot of those states you can shoot straight wall cartridges now I’m an Ohio Resident and use a .450 bushmaster
These crimson trace scopes are doing good. Makes me interested in checking one out. Very good shooting WTW.
Thanks for watching Dwayne
Man I love me some shotgun have several different kinds don't have a Weatherby though going to have to check into that good-looking shotgun
We have to use shotgun here in southeast minnesota too. I've taken 2 deer at 100 plus with remington 3" accutips. I run a mossberg 500 with a rifled barrel with a bushnell AR optic. its an lpvo. Very happy with sobots for deer. That shotguns a tackdriver for a shotgun. Love the sabot shotgun stuff!
Excellent presentation 👏
Love those Weaver rings. I'm mounting a Crimson Trace Hardline Pro today on my Howa 1500 with Warne rings. I'm expecting tighter groups. Bring this 308 up to the tight group club of my other bing bangs
Awesome!
Parts of NY, what they consider southern zone. Shotgun/muzzle loader only.
At least it had been while I grew up there. Westchester county was Bow only. I lived Putnam/Dutchess counties, and west side of Hudson, Rockland/Orange.
WTW I LIKE YOUR NEW HAT!
I NEVER HAD SCOPE ON A SHOTGUN.
That's a good looking bing bang. I may have to find me a slug gun.
Very nice shooting bud , that scope is very cool
Good stuff! I have a rem semi-auto turkey gun that only cycles if you shoot a heavy loads. It would work good in the situation you described, especially with a scope. I've been looking on Zillow for land around Franklin to escape commiefornia.
I have both 12 and 20 ga savage slug guns the bolt actions the 20 ga is sighted in at 200 yard's and will kill easily, now my 12 ga has a BDC scope with 3" mags it will group at 250 yards, but the 2&3/4" stuff is in the dirt at 150
Thank you. Just bought a new slugger barrel for my mossberg 500. Think I should get a better scope!
Awesome!
Great setup.
Awesome scope! Great video Adam! Thanks!
PS: Was yours a rifled barrel? Details about it?
With a little practice and getting used to that trigger I’d take a shot at a deer at 200 yards if I had a good solid rest. That Slug is well capable of taking a Deer at 200 yards.
Nice job man! Bet that would be a good setup on your Marlin 45-70. Might have to play with the zero depending what rounds you use to get the reticle to line up.
That's not bad for a slug gun WTW! I think it's safe to say 150 is probably the max range due to the group size in order to make an accurate but humane kill shot on a deer. In MI, the southern half of the lower peninsula is shotgun/straight walled cartridges only, but it's so heavily wooded, most hunters are shooting deer well within a hundred yards. I'm normally taking deer at 50 yards and in, so I keep a few slugs with me, but otherwise I'm always using buckshot. I have had great luck dropping many deer with buckshot and honestly, I haven't shot a deer with a slug in over 12 years now, but took one two years ago with a classic Remington 2.75" 12 pellet 00 buck. Always less than 50 yards in my case, but there are some open area's I can't utilize so I recently built an AR chambered in 350 legend I need to shoot and sight in. I'm hoping it won't be a jamomatic as I often hear about 350 AR's having due to feed ramp issues and mag related issues. I feel the 350L being more appropriate for those 75-200 yard shots. I topped mine off with a Bushnell Engage 2-10 so I'll see in April when I shoot with my buddies how this set up works and get my dope down as I have 0-400 yards to work with.
Actually Ohio's DNR has relaxed our restrictions the last 5 years. Straight walled rifle cartridges have been added. My 12ga 870 still gets carried but Ive built myself an AR in .350 legend. Cant wait to use it.
Good stuff, keep up the good work brother
Hey leverguns
I bet wind and parallax affects the slug a lot. 200 yards anywhere close is pretty crazy. Great video.
Tried a scope on my 835 Mossbeg. It was made for shotguns. 2 out of 10 shots I hit my eye. Enough for me
“We got to do this for science.” Dam right! Thanks.
👍👍
Dang....200 yard hits ......impressive
Great groups accurate Weatherby slug gun their my friend. Great new scope with a BDC that works. Had nothing to do with your shootin', it's all about the equipment. 😜😜😁
I’ve not been able to get the faster sabots to group out of a 500 with a rifled barrel. Mostly in the realm of 4” or more at 100 yards. The only ones that group, and they were almost MOA, are the Hornady “Lite” versions, which are quite a bit slower. I need to push them to 200 sometime.
In my state has a shotgun zone in the lower Peninsula of Michigan.
For the most part, Pennsylvania is a rifle state, but some of the more populated counties require shotgun only.
You can use straight wall rifle cartridges here in Ohio as well
In Ohio we can use straight wall cartridges now instead of just shotgun slugs. I've taken deer with an 1866 Winchester lever gun in 45 colt and my 450 bushmaster AR since the law changed. It's so much nicer using the straight wall cartridges.
Slug gun state here in NJ, have a Rem. 870 with a 26 inch smoothbore Rem. choke barrel. Thinking about using a rifled choke to improve accuracy. I think I can use either Foster or Sabot slugs with the rifled choke. I don't think I would take a shot much over 50 yards though.
A rifled slug barrel is 125ish dollars. No rifle choke is going to give you performance from or past 100. You’re wasting money shooting sabots from a smooth bore.
@@Freakingstang Remington no longer makes slug barrels, else I would buy one. I would say a rifled choke in a smooth bore would give you better accuracy than using an IC choke in the barrel, that's all I'm saying. If you keep your shots to around 50 or so yards, should be fine. Carlson's, a company that makes these chokes states that you can use either Sabots or rifled slugs with their rifled chokes. I would test that at the range and see.
While they don’t currently make them, rifled 870 barrels can be found at many places still in stock. I wouldn’t waste my money on a rifled choke. Especially at 50 yards
Love it i got some nikon bdc scopes great video
I live in Illinois unfortunately! Have shot many deer and yotes 150+ with my 870 never shot the sst’s always shot partition golds. I bought the ole lady a savage 220 and it is a tack driver with sst’s. I hunt with my model 66 357 now because it’s a lot of fun and more of a challenge. I do carry the traditions 50 cal muzzleloader from time to time. You should do a review on the 220 or 212 a lot of people around here use them.
Nikon buckmasters used to be a solid optic qith simular results. Nice to see the CT doing well. Up here in MN we have about half the state slug and pistol only, the other half can use rifles.
I wonder if Crimson Trace bought the Nikon scopes since Nikon got out.
Yes, they did
@@WHOTEEWHO thank you. That's been my guess.
Nice little slug scope , but as stated in the video Indiana is not a slug gun only state. Public land = slugs and straight walled cartridges i.e. 350 legend , 450bm , 44 mag , 357 . Private land = anything 243 and bigger can be used.
That is some BDC scope I use a vortex crossfire BDC on my .223 makes live a bit easier
I live in Maine and Maine is not a slug only state. It is slug only in the Urban areas of the state and as you might imagine that is a very small margin of this state.
Nice my dad has a nice single shot 12 gauge n a bolt action 10 gauge gonna try to take a deer with it this coming season
The way I was told and taught since you have 1 box left and there's 5 rounds per box that should be 5 deer in the freezer. The way that gun and scope work together if you don't get 5 for 5 you can't blame the gun or the scope. You'd have to check for a loose nut at the butt end of the stock.
Good video. I have found that typically the Hornady SST slugs are not that accurate. I have found the Lightfield hybrid 2.75" shoot very well out of a rifled barrel slug gun. Now that was almost 20 years ago, but I personally will never use them again. They cost me a giant 8 point and a giant 10 point in Ohio within a week of each other! Lightfield hybrids are really consistent. You'll go to the poorhouse buying a box, but they are well worth it.
Lightfield went out of business almost two years ago…
@@Freakingstang yeah, I found that out yesterday after I sent the reply. I still have 5 or 6 boxes though...
Really fun video! 😀
