Very nice!!! I have often been asked what is the most important tool in the shop and I always answer "Your imagination" . Your imagination is excellent.
Great Video. I'm always on the beach and most times bring back home pieces of driftwood. You have now given me inspiration to do a similar project tomorrow. Currently I'm busy making wagon wheels, tables and driftwood wall decorations. Will now have to break off and make something fishy. Love your work.
I think the piece of base wood that you used, before stain, is beautiful wood. I appreciate the base wood much more than the driftwood and would prefer to see you make a piece from that gorgeous wood. Joseph
I have TONS of that stuff in my shop from across the street here in N Cal Fun stuff to play with but I have found some that looks exactly like a whale and doesn’t need refinishing because the tides and sand finishes it. Find it too late and the good pieces get smashed between the huge burl stumps. Wow doesn’t look like a whale either ? What’s Up ?
Can I ask, did you treat the piece of drift wood? I have a really nice piece of Bog Oak that I would love to work on and can't figure out how to treat it first! Thanks!
There's 15 minutes of my life I'll never get back. In the end it's a piece of a branch on a beautiful base. Why not make the whale something special to.
table saw at 2:30 and jointer afterward (similar to planer but generally has smaller head (4-6" knives) with fence to side). on another note, the imagination in using driftwood is great. my father does similar things and has created many animals with great results. finding a root system battered by rivers and ocean usually gives great rewards for people who love unusual driftwood.
Awesome! Love the idea of making art from natural pieces of wood like that!
