    Thank you. I just bought my first pair of good binoculars after 25 years of birdwatching. Thanks to you I’ve set them up correctly. My old cheap ones would’ve probably been better had I set them up as you instructed!

    Thank you Jessie. My husband bought me a used pair of binoculars and I had watched several other videos but yours was the only one that stated to put the right diopter setting back to zero. I did that and it was perfect. Best description and easy to follow.

    My problem is finding something I see with normal vision again with the binoculars, say I am looking at a particular branch that a bird has flown to, for some reason once I try looking through the binos it can take me a while to find it again. I think I probably just need practice, and birds that are nice enough to sit still :P, but if anyone has some pointers I'd appreciate it.

    • @officialandproper
      @officialandproper Před 7 lety +5

      dadeskr Try lifting the binoculars to your eyes as you're looking with your regular eyesight at whatever it is you want to magnify, rather than looking down into the binoculars and then trying to find the same place you had been looking at. This way, you should not be too disoriented with the addition of magnification.

      A little late but I hope it is going better now all these years later! And if you are still working on it another tip is lock your eyes to that bird and lift the binoculars up and to the right place using touch. Wearing them on a cord around your neck can really help with this!

    I found a New Old Stock of Winchester WL-1050WR for
    Canadian $40 (US$32/£25) which came in its original
    packaging including a Steel Box, A Nylon Pouch and all the straps.
    I couldn't find any details of Winchester Binoculars online - I know that they are a now defunct Ammunition company from USA famous for their rifles and also made rifle scopes.
    The box and the documentation state "Winchester is a
    registered trademark of Olin Corporation. Winchester Optics are distributed in North America by Vanguard (USA) Inc.”
    I know Vanguard makes some pretty decent mid range sub $250 binos.
    What are your thoughts about this purchase of $40
    Canadian?
    Here are some specs:
    Porro Prism (Ofcourse from the looks )
    10x50
    Eye relief: 11mm
    Exit Pupil: 5mm
    Angle of view: 6.7 degrees
    Field of view: 351 feet at 1000 yards
    Weight: 1.87 Ibs

      Mr42960 The Nikon Monarch 5, 8x42, ED ATB. I have a bit of tremor in my hands so the weight of these works well for me. I'm a beginner/intermediate birder and find these suit my needs. I can zoom in then out (or visa versa) quickly and smoothly. My next pair I'd like to be able to see farther out, like in the middle of the bay where the currents convergence. For now, I really like this pair.

    I just spent a month looking into binoculars... My biggest recommendation is to not even consider buying a pair that's less than $200. I consider pairs below $200 to be "junk". From $200 to $400 you can find a ok pair if you choose carefully, but if you use them much, you'll probably soon be looking to spend a lot more on a better pair. I've heard that the Celtron TrailSeeker 8x42 ED are decent in this price range, but the ED part is important as it refers to the lens glass used.
    Personally I'd say you should plan on spending $1000 for a pair, and move up and down from there as you find deals and as your budget allows. Looking through a good pair of $1000 binoculars is a joy. I've mostly used $100 binoculars, and they extremely annoying to use. Small exit pupil and eye relief made them hard to hold so I could see out of them. Poor lenses made the view blurry around the edges, and they had a small field of view. A good $1000 pair of binoculars are almost better than using your own eyes.
    The three big brands are Zeiss, Leica, and Swarovski. If you buy one of these, you'll generally "get what you pay for", which is to say their price vs. performance is well balanced. They're expensive, but you get screwed by some marketing that has you spend $500 on a pair of binoculars with $100 optics in them. If you can afford it, I'd highly recommend a pair of SCL binoculars from Swarovski. They're around $1500, but they are absolutely beautiful. I love them. If you want to really treat yourself, as of 2020, the best pair of binoculars made seems to be the NL Pure line from Swarovski. They're around $3000, which is a lot, but consider this to be a lifetime purchase. Shoes, suits, and cars will come and go, but you'll have these binoculars the rest of your life and they'll be an absolute joy to use.
    Please don't buy a cheap pair of binoculars. I have 5 of them collecting dust on my shelf. I plan on taking them apart one day and playing with their lenses.

    • @dennistyler8746
      @dennistyler8746 Před 3 lety +7

      @@dennistyler8746 Yes, but... I think you have to view it as a lifetime purchase. You won't have the same TV the rest of your life, your shoes, your computer, your car... etc. but you'll have these same binoculars the rest of your life. Best wishes!
