As you can see, the thing about Pelé is that he already played like the modern players of nowadays (the tricks, dribbling, etc), but in the 50s. In fact, you see the videos and looks like Pelé is a time traveler because he was the only one doing this kind of "playing" and the other players looks like they're 40 years older than him. Finally, I must remember, Pelé was perfect as a game maker miedfielder, perfect as the second man in the attack and perfect as the main striker. He could shoot with his 2 legs, could score with his head (his jumping capabilities were inhuman), he could do perfect long passes, basically he could do everything perfect. Is like a Zidane, Zico, Messi, Ronaldinho, Maradona, Ronaldo and Romario mixed in one player.

Pele did that 60 years ago. There were no videos as examples, there was no live broadcast, just a few photos in newspapers. We saw these images in the cinema, before the movies, on a special channel called Canal 100, months later! He invented dozens of dibres, without copying anyone, today it's easy, reviewing several plays to train. Football and athletics are divided into Before Pele and after Pele, as he revolutionized physical preparation and conditioning! Pele is the King!

Pelé was a literal cheat code. Great speed and balance, brilliant dribbler, good with both feet from close and long range, could score from free kicks with both feet, great header of the ball despite not being the tallest player, amazing offensive awareness, could easily set up team mates with great or simple passes. If he was around now in modern football with modern training and protection form the refs, he'd destroy the record books.

I had the privilege to watch him playing in 1971 many times. He really was from another planet! The goals we watch today are just a small part of what he scored. A TV station that had almost all his goals in file caught fire and lost almost everything. The players nowadays have to keep in mind that to be like him they have, at least, to win three world cups out of four and score a thousand goals. Also playing in a time where yellow and red card doesn't exist, the fields were most of the time horrible and the ball much heavier than today.

I saw a stat showing his goal+assists contribution per a match and goals per minute are higher than Messi´s. Equal to Messi in overall stats, surpassing him in averaged stats and on top of that being a role model of almost everybody coming after him doing all the tricks 20yrs before guys like R9 or Ronaldinho. For me this guy remains to be the GOAT. He literally invented the game as we know it today....

we may have archive footage, but i still believe the people with the most authority to talk about Pelé are those who saw him live, from players to fans. films only tell you so much about the magnitude of a person, documental or not. i have family in Santos (an uncle, an aunt and two cousins) and they often talk about the football culture there - i even got to visit Vila Belmiro once, it was overwhelming despite being a comparatively small stadium.

  • @MarcoAntonio-tr9kf

In those days you played with a heavier ball,on pitches that were not as well prepared. The game was more physical, yellow cards only came into being in 1970,defenders were able to get away with a lot more.Attacking players were not as protected as they are today, that is the time in which Pele played.O Rei ,the King. Pele is the man by which great players are measured today, almost 50 years after he stopped playing. Franz Beckenbauer described him as the most complete player he has ever met.

Pele was way before my time, but I consider him by far the GOAT of football. In the year 2000, Pele was actually named as the Greatest Athlete of the 20th Century, along with Micheal Jordan. That's how dominant Pele was. Btw, there's a great Hollywood movie from 2016 about young Pele, who lat the age of 17 years old, led Brazil to its very first World Cup Title in 1958. The movie is called 'Pele: Birth Of A Legend" (2016). You should definitely check it out.
Btw, am I the only person who's annoyed by reactors who take their eyes off the action to speak with their co-reactors? LOL. Do they realize that they can speak with someone while keeping their eyes on the screen?
