      Its ok I understood him fine. There is no such thing as an "irish accent" there are countless ones and this one is specific to parts of Ulster (Northern Ireland) its harder than southern accents as it was historically influenced by Scots speakers

    I was once on a dive boat on the Great Barrier Reef. Nearly every flavor of English was represented. It was fascinating and we all had a blast listening to such variation in our mother tongue. Northern Irish was the most difficult for me as a southerner to understand. Southern England/South African the most pleasant to the ear.

    I used to live in Texas. (I wasn't raised there) I noticed several Texas accents. (West Texas, East Texas, urban rural etc.) One guy from E. Texas, and I am not mocking, pronounced acorns as "akearns". It took me a while to figure out that he meant acorns. Interesting video. Thank You

      I heard the last part first time around, but only from hearing similar language in shows. "be long getting" is not an expression used in American english either, which contributes to the confusion.

    I feel so proud about being able to understand this without subtitles. Nobody taught me english. I learned it with years of watching videos/songs/sitcoms and translating every word I did not understand (Needing to stop the piece of media I was enjoying at that time). To that, I would like to add that I watch a podcast with 2 Irish guys every Friday.
    I love your culture, Irish people. I love your accent, is one of the best (if not the best).

Off he went, and 14hrs later he was rescued from two and a half miles out at sea.... The gray area you're thinking of is between dialects and languages. But accents and dialects are not the same thing, as an accent is a purely phonetic difference, whereas a dialect implies some different vocabulary, sometimes some different grammar, and even alternate sentence construction.
      Obviously accents and dialects often go hand in hand, but the point is an accent in and of itself is not and never would be a different language. There is no point in history where European languages would have just been accents of the same language.
      Furthermore Proto-Indo-European is a mere hypothesis. It's a theorized language based on a linguistic reconstruction derived from studying common points between Indo-European languages. There is zero record of Proto-Indo-European, therefore we do not know if it actually existed, and we certainly do not know what differences there were between different variants of it.
