Was at Mark Knopflers gig in Dublin a couple of years back, good seats, about 5 rows back. Empty seat beside me, man takes his place during the first song. It was only after the first song had finished i looked at who it was and it was this fucking legend! Told me that Knopfler has caused him to burn many guitars out of disgust at his talent ha. It was also great to see how moved he was by the gig himself, sitting in the crowd just like the rest of us when he easily could be sidestage etc.
gilmour81 I first heard Paul Brady at Vicar Street in Dublin in October 2001 - I was 15 and I was really only going as Mark Knopfler was his guest and I’m a massive fan of his (never miss him on tour) and I was remembering being totally blown away by Paul - he gained another fan that night and I’ve been to see him another four or five times since.
Paul used to open for Dire Straits back in the early '80s. So it's only fitting that he has John Illsley here. And if you have his live album FULL MOON (1984), you'll know that he had Terry Williams on drums for that tour!
@@afitzsimons Wow!! You made my night, and kept me awake longer 😅. I never knew that, I never saw that official video, we had no UK TV channels in our West of Ireland home until 1980, never saw top of the pops before that. It led me to the BBC doc "Straight Down The Line"..... Not surprised that they would have Liam in the studio for Bakers, such an iconic song. Thanks again 👏👏👏
I agree. Liam has been a key player in lots of Hastings bands over the years as well as playing with Brady and Steeleye Span. And here he is playing on the same Brady song last week ! June 29th 2024!!! The beard is grey but the fire burns brightly still. czcams.com/video/omzlIuCFHPA/video.html
This is the song I listened to, when I was trying to hold on to love in the winter of 1994. "It's 10 below on these city streets, but the feeling in your heart is getting colder", sums it up. Paul is just brilliant.
Paul Brady is a brilliant underrated songwriter. The band seems like ad hoc, put together for the show. These guys are totally into what they're doing and Kenny is just brilliant. It's not an error - that's playing live.
This guy is the music worlds best kept secret!! Awesome in the studio and then some more when live. Been fortunate enough to see him 4 times in the last 12 months, just wish he had another tour booked now.
Brought to see him in the Hammersmith Odeon in 1987 by some English colleagues whilst in my first year in London at the tender age of 19. Never know him until then. Never forgotten him since......
I was up in Bundoran Donegal for a weeks R and R last week with my wife and our black cocker spaniel, and was walking the beautiful Rougey cliff walk (If you haven't done this then do it as soon as you can, absolutely spectacular)!, when this couple walked by and I said to my wife "That's Paul Brady", my absolute hero as a singer/songwriter guitarist, I wanted to tell him that every time I went to see him in concert I would resist the urge to go home and smash my own Takamine guitar, I also wanted to tell him that I used to see him arrive at the AIB in Finglas in his old Renault 4 car as I was arriving in my own 0ld Renault 4 to lodge money for my employers EMI records in Glasnevin, and how I remember him saying that the song he wrote for Tina Turner "Paradise is here" was so successful that it practically cleared his mortgage. Tina Turner was an EMI artist at the time. I wanted to say all these things but I was afraid to disturb them on this beautiful walk on a quite beautiful day. The man is a pure legend. Thanks for uploading this video as it's the best version on youtube!
+Barbara Gobelin Barry Thanks for that info Barbara, I was born in Dungloe myself but my sister still has a place in Bundoran! I'm guessing Paul has a place himself there, as a local told me he is always being spotted around the town.
I’m just discovering Paul Brady and loving his music. Went way back to the early stuff and then Spirits Colliding, then back to Hard Station. Amazing evolution of his style. Reminds me of Van Morrison too. Loving his vocals and open tuned guitars.
Me too. I discovered that I am 4 whole quarters (8 eighths actually with 8 grandparents all Irish) Irish having been adopted at six weeks old 🍀I am one of the lucky 🍀 ones. Paul Brady reaches deep down to my soul🎶🙏
Remember the first time i saw this or even heard of the guy with a bottle of Bacardi Spiced rum and my Best Frien and Mentor the late Billy Rivers RIP my friend Love and miss you Bro
@Longbow1690 The Drummer is Liam Genockey, I have seen him play with 'Buick six' ; the Vicky Clayton Band, and the last time was last summer with ,Steeleye Span'.
All these years listening to Mr Brady.Seen him live more times than i am willing to admit. I couldn't decide who he put me in mind of.Got it recently, Stephen Stills.CSN.☘🇮🇪☘🇮🇪☘
What musicianship from them all. They all gave 100per cent. For pure showmanship and style I'd love to have bought the man a pint of the black stuff, the drummer that is!
Multi millionaire and well known among his peers.... Imagine being able to call on Dire Straits bass player to help out. Prob not well known, prob people have rocked to his songs and not known it. Tina Turner had a few of his songs on her albums at a time when the money was good. Legend
@@christinequinn5355 Hi, he did indeed, there is a long list of fab artists that Mr Brady has collaborated with or had songs covered by. I think it's the sign of a master when others want to cover your stuff..... opened for Dire Straits in the USA one tour as well.
First heard crazy dreams while driving home late one night many years ago the DJ didn't say who the song title or artist was . spent all the next day ringing round to get pauls name managed to get a cassette of pauls album liked his music ever since very talented guy.. many excellent songs
what a cool-looking, and fantastic drummer. Sorry to hear about the passing of your uncle, the godofors. And Paul Brady, well, he is amazing. I've seen him a few times. On top of his musical talents he is great with the audience.
Wanna hear my brother singing this you close your eyes n just sounds like Paul he’s a very good friend of his and me being the youngest of seven 5 bhoys two girls this was never off in our home 💚💚💚💚💚💚
I'll never know why this wasn't a massive hit!
Underrated big time
Seen him in Dublin in an old opera house sounded fab
Only problem we were all pissed lol
I have followed him for years, seen him live and wondered why he not better known. He is a great singer songwriter.

Good one - then he gets the Dire Straits bass player for his own band!
he is the king of the strings!!! Under appreciated big time!
Speaking of Dire Straits, check out who's playing on the bass, look familiar?
Paul used to open for Dire Straits back in the early '80s. So it's only fitting that he has John Illsley here. And if you have his live album FULL MOON (1984), you'll know that he had Terry Williams on drums for that tour!
I always say only an irish person can write such lyrics one of his many classic tunes big fan
Drummer is as smooth as butter, not an easy feat to play 16ths on the hi hat most of the way through…kudos to him and great song too
Liam Genockey. Steeleye Span and worked for Brady for years. Cool as the artic 👌👏

Brady doesn't get credit for his guitar arrangements - great backing by everyone - only pros at work here.
In the top league of Irish talent

Fabulous performance and Liam Genockey on drums is just superb. Great band all round.
Steeleye Span top drummer, nice to c him lending a ✋! Paul Brady, a fine yet sadly underrated guitarist and singer, gud to c Jules has got taste 😊
A brilliant drummer, he drives this song along, love it

28 yrs ltr and still an excellent song
Of the 35000 tracks I have, this has to be in my top one. Awesome !
that this is actually better than the original recording is a testament to what a fine musician Paul Brady is.

I love this song, the last verse uplifts me. 'We'll find some other crazy dream tomorrow' that says it all!
Amazing he has made approx €5m from just three songs, none of them this. Happy out. Supreme , sublime, peerless Mr Brady.

With Kenny Craddock on the Roland... any band would be top caliber musically.
