In a letter from 1718, looking back on twenty years of composing, Telemann wrote that church music was a genre that he appreciated the most and that most of his work fell under this genre. This finding lasted for the rest of his career, the extremely productive composer wrote more than a thousand cantatas and some passiones, psalms and smaller sacral works. Despite the amount of work, his pieces were never monotonous or boring, but on the contrary cover a wide variety of different genres, forms, expressions and structure. The three cantatas on this CD show this diversity well.
