Y'all can't lie when the game ended you wanted to play as venom again and let's be real if venom was secret fully playable character it would have got game of the year
Venoms design and voice was really menacing. Problem is he was extremely under utilized and his motivation was mid for me and it was not fleshed out very well.
They need to stop rushing or changing the characters around and just let them be who they are so easy to do oh and tell a good story.
Would've been way better if Venom wasn't controlling Peter and Harry. It'd be more interesting if Harry actually did hate Peter by the end of the game and if Peter's rage came from within rather than the symbiote is just making him evil. Should've been Eddie.
Bro Eddie hating Peter for “ruining his life” is way weaker of a motivation than Venom wanting to “heal the world” this symbiote was way more evil.
@andray310 I'm fine they went with Harry that wasn't inherently a bad choice but they went about it the wrong way. If the game was longer and we actually would've had a more fleshed out story

@andray310 venom himself suffers from the story length. Here's what they should've done:
Make the story longer so Peter has the symbiote more and his descent is more gradual, make Harry hate Peter, symbiote hates Peter and thinks he's a bad guy, Harry and the symbiote bond. I love the game but that was one aspect it struggled in.

I think the reason this game was rushed and in turn Venom being underdeveloped was due to Kraven introduction. And in my own personal theory, Kraven was implemented and the rushed game development was because Sony wanted to develop brand synergy since both the Kraven film and Spider-Man 2 were originally planned to release on the same day.
i dont think that was the reason, more so that they needed a 2023 playstation exclusive
Peter had the symbiote for a short amount of time, what was it... 3-4 days? And he was starting to become evil and then... Miles help him to take the suit off. What the hell?
It was fun while it lasted, I guess.
Now Venom.
Dude, the marketing was completely based on Venom as being the main focus of this game, but by the third act.... Venom becomes forgettable and everything happens so fast, I could easily count on my fingers his dialogues because there wasn't even time to dedicate more lines to Tony.
The symbiote invasion goes by as quickly as it ends, the final fight is boring and anticlimactic in the sense that, Peter could have given the anti-venom suit to Harry and just stood by and watched as he slowly died while Miles tried to revive him lmao.
Now I never played the game but I do understand most of its story's issues. I feel like an aspect of Venom that could've been explored way more is his clinginess to his hosts for different reasons. There's this theory (not mine btw) that Venom's essentially an abuse victim, he tries to find the "perfect" partner to bond with, however the trauma eventually ends up on that said partner. That theory made me see Venom in a way more different light, and damn it I wish they could've explored that in this game. Maybe Venom and Harry could share the same hatred for one person, Spider-Man. Venom hates Spider-Man for splitting up with him, and Harry hates Spidey for taking away the one chance he has at life. So my idea is Venom's way more interesting when his motives are more "personal." Per se, it adds a sense of melancholy to the mythos of Spider-Man.

So much that they will do anything to damage his life.
The thing about Venom. He wasn't just fumbled. He doesn't even get the time to be Venom. What makes Venom bad is that Peter didn't get enough time with the Symbiote so when Venom appears he doesn't really have a good enough of a Motivation
and then, they didnt give us a proper venom vs peter experience, "what peter needs to use his wits to defeat venom because he´s superior to him in almost every way except emotionally, nah, give him anti-venom. what? Symbiotes are weak to fire and its important to their lore which we do use (without crediting donny cates), nah lets forget that, but still have a lot of knull´s iconography eventhough he´s the reason for their weaknesses". It feels like they never cared for venom outside surface level stuff
@@ignite5329 Oh? Knull is the reason for their weakness? Thank you for that bit of Information. I didn't really dive deep into the Lore of Venom. Especially the Knull side of it. But I heard about it. You are correct. It would have been better for Peter to use his wits. In a Writing thing I'm doing where I change Spider-Man 2 a lot. I have most of the game just focusing on the Symbiote slowly destroying Peter's Life because it wants to help him.
The end of the game goes as what it should. Peter is freed and Harry gets the Symbiote. In the next game as it should the Symbiote struggles to even do much of anything as Harry didn't HATE Peter. And it wanted to Hate Peter for everything he did to them.
So they separate from Harry and through a Built up Eddie Brock he becomes Venom and has his Main Goal to Ruin Peter Parker AKA Spider-Man's Life. And the rest of the game goes as that. Parties chase after Venom while he himself goes after Peter Mentally. After the plan going a bit off the rails Venom does the thing that happened in the 3rd act of the Spider-Man 2.
After that Miles and Mj go for something that will completely beat Venom and his Symbiotes Peter goes after Venom. And with that their fight would entail fighting in Oscorp tower, being chased, fighting on the streets, fighting in the lab that made Peter become Spider-Man before Miles shows up and they both still get their ass's handed to them. That's what my Verison of the Venom fight would be. Peter would struggle against Venom. But with Miles they make things a bit more even but in the end they need to rely on something that can stop Venom for all they know defeats him permanently
@johnprime1147 honestly, that's more more what I wanted, except the symbiote invasion, idk a invasion story kinda should be either for a big scale game outside of spider-man or a venom game, but it sound more intriguing then what Bryan inthihar did, it really pisses me off how he was raving so much about how "we did our own thing" "we wanted to reinvent venom" when all they did was just sonyverse riot

GodzillaMendoza’s most recent video really break down the problem with Venom in the game. Really even if they have made it Eddie Brock I don't think it would have made the game any better.
I'm dead serious and I blame Intahar for the fact that Venom and the 3rd act felt so rushed and lackluster. Why? Because he flat out admitted in an interview that he doesn't care what content they had to cut but the priority was making MJ playable.

Brian was feeling himself and got cocky saying what he said now he had to humble himself and admit they had to cut some content which dilutes the experience of the game and realize they f'd up. Too bad MJ couldn't save him on that one.😂 Hopefully they learn their lesson moving forward for Spider-Man 3.

And with the way they were marketing and hyping up Venom, you'd think that they wouldn't cut 90% of his dialogue and/or gameplay to flesh him out. I loved damn near everything till the 3rd Act started. Then it all went downhill and I love Venom but this "new take" wasn't new at all.

After finishing the game and even with some of it's flaws and nitpicks, I gave the game a 9/10 but having more time to let things sink in, its hard to not forget the cons of the game because it could've been avoidable and the game could've been a much better experience. Its still a great game though but looking at it with more critical lens, I would have to give the game a 8 or 8.5 the most.

Good news: There is a leaked Venom spinoff game in the works at insomniac games, where we will likely get their interpretation of Eddie Brock as Venom, where he will take more of a lethal protector anti-hero route

I think one of the biggest issues with Venom in this game is that since the 90s, Venom’s character has been super developed and so has the symbiote lore (I personally hate most of the symbiote Knull shit and the wings on venom etc), so this being said, Insomniac probably felt pressured to include all this imagery and lore from the newer comics
So instead of sticking to fundamentals with the venom character, they forced Harry as the bad guy of act 3 and ham fisted a bunch of iconography/imagery of newer comics venom
Bill roseman was the one responsible for the raimi suit debacle in the 1st game. Now he said this 3:57, dude sucks at his job
He’s web of shadows venom and the Venom from the 2017 spider man cartoon they did the same thing where venom gets a Little Rock that is known as the beacon to call more symbiotes to invade earth
They made venom a 1 dimensional villain who tried brainwashing harry making him think he was healing the world when in reality the symbiote wanted world dominance. Venom in comics is way more complex then Insomniac's generic version 😂
Here's what i would have done:
have the whole harry agent venom thing happen and then peter gets the symbiote. then, while peter is evil peter because of the symbiote, have him ruin eddie brock's career over the course of the game like in the comics. then, eddie is fired from his job because of spider-man, leading to eddie developing a hatred for spider-man. to attempt to get his job back, he tries to get incriminating footage of spider-man, and have the player play as him in these MJ-style missions where you follow symbiote spidey around trying to get incriminating footage, and eventually have him follow symbiote spider man to a church, where spidey would confront kraven with the symbiote in full effect. the kraven fight would take place in a church where kraven is holding miles hostage to try and lure peter out for a fight, and then the kraven fight would happen followed by the peter v miles fight. eddie would be recording all of this and when pete finally gets the symbiote off him, it falls on to eddie, allowing him to carry out revenge for losing his job. we would then play as venom where we try to chase down the spider men but are stopped by kraven, and then the kraven v venom fight happens, and then yeah. i have other versions of this, like a more simple spider-man 3 esque approach of eddie losing his job and going to pray for forgiveness but instead finding the 2 spider men in an active battle atop the bell tower and then the symbiote falling on him afterward, or maybe he comes across the symbiote in the rubble in the aftermath of the miles vs peter fight
it seems like the insomniac leak shows that venom will get it's own game

Honestly, what they did with venom was great imo, however what they did with venom was way to little, by this I mean that they really nailed venom when it comes to who the character is, the flaw was how underutilized he was. A really good character who could have been used A LOT more

eddie would´ve been way better since the writers would need a reason to make him an antagonist with motives, he would´ve shoved the story forward and made it more personal with a character that lost everything to peter and miles, but no, insomniac played it safe with their "friend turns to foe" plot, eventhough having symbiote peter ruin eddie would make us feel worse and know how peter feels
Honestly, not seeing everybody saying that venom was fumbled. Loki makes me feel sad because you really can’t redo this unless they make a whole new game and rec on this one or add something for DLC or something but you really can’t fix it. Unlike a movie or something.

The problems started since Peter had the symbiote. The guy literally had the black suit for two days. If that's not rushed I don't know what is. I think he should have had it for at least 2 or 3 weeks to really give the transition to the dark side some tangible weight. The same goes for Venom.

You make really good points, if you have seen Godzillamendozas video on spider-man 2 I agree with you guys, I feel like there should have been moments where you are swinging and you encounter Venom as a random person then boom he shape shifting, also I really feel like venom never had the hatred for Spider-man he’s literally just a normal bad guy, the symbiote and Harry should hate Spider-Man

As I think about it more and more, I definitely am starting to like this version less and less. Sad considering he’s my favorite Spidey villain. I’m actually finally playing through the game now and it’s a blast but I’ll see how I feel once I finally finish it.
Hopefully if they ever remake this game or make a director cut ,they'll add more to the story and add the miles symbiote thingy, more of black suit and harry and obviously more of venom

There was no room for Eddie In this story. Because that isn't the story they wanted to tell. I believe having Eddie here wouldn't have made much sense as he was no Connection to Peter or Harry.
They should have made Harry actually Hate Peter or do Green Goblin instead
Eddie Brock does exist within Insomniac's Spider-Man universe, in the first game there's a collectable where Peter collects a goodbye card from his colleagues. Eddie Brock is one of the colleagues Peter worked with so there is a connection there that Insomniac could play with in the future. Eddie Brock and Peter Parker do know each other given their time working together at the Daily Bugle.
Let’s be honest most of the Venom/symbiote arc was very short and rushed. If the story was at least 3-5 hours longer I feel like this game genuinely could’ve been a 10/10 story wise
What they should have done was focused on the black suit/Venom arc fron the beginning instead of giving Kraven so much screen time for someone who's only accomplishment was killing all the other Villians off screen. Personally I think it would have been cool if Kraven was more of an Anti-hero without an army and we were able to PLAY as him hunting down the villains and having them as boss fights with the occasional boss fight with him and the spider men. Then when the web of shadows arc takes place, he becomes an ally to fight the symbiotes, but ultimately, we get one last boss fight with him because he wants to kill Venom where as Peter and Miles want to save Harry.

I agree with alot of your points Venom should have been in the game for longer. I do disagree that Venom was shallow I don't think Venoms goal was inherently bad. Sucks that themarketing makes leaves a bad taste tho.
I said it in the community post but Venom and Harry being obsessed with getting Peter on their side was great. But like you said he could have went after Miles chased down Peter and Miles. All this would have been solved if he just had more development.
I hope we do see a Venom redemption arc for his game. But who will they give it too. Cause i just cant think of how they'd give it to Eddie Brock. Harry's knocked out dying unless Venom gets back. But then the 3rd games plot could be messy.

Venom is definitely shallow in this game I don't feel connected to the character or his plan, I will forever say Venon should of been with Eddie, Harry just doesn't fit the criteria in my opinion.

ngl it feels like there trying to do two different venoms here. one being the classic “host and symbiote hate Spiderman” character which doesn’t work because harry doesn’t have much reason at all to hate peter. and on the other they’re it seems like there trying to do something new by having the symbiote warp harry’s “heal the world” ideology as a symbiote world takeover wich i like but again it doesn’t work that well because there also pushing the first previously mentioned style of venom.

@@Salvage1009 You obviously didn't read the quote. "Our goal was to create an ORIGINAL story..." It is Insomniac we are talking about here. Insomniac seemed to love the monster Venom and that is what they gave us. We (readers) seemed to like the Venom wings in the King in Black comic story line so they used it in the game. Using the same character that is from the same universe/origins would be boring as we would have gotten over everything we know about them. For example, Bruce Wayne's parents dying and what it means to Bruce himself. We know that it inspired him to become Batman and it has been done over to death (no pun intended). One of the things that I like about The Batman is that we don't need to see (visually) Bruce's parents getting killed. However, there are constants that have to be the same, even when telling an original story. Like the spider bite for Peter.
About Venom though. I can see why Insomniac went into that direction (because of the Sony movies) and I personally love where they went with it IMO.
One of the problems that I see is the Darth Vader problem. We see to much of him and he doesn't become so scary. Look at all the comics, movies, games of Vader and you will see what I am talking about. The same can be for Venom.

Web of shadows venom was better. With web of shadows I knew something bad was coming the process was better paced. S.H.I.E.L.D being involved also made it more believable with NPC turing into symbiote's
Plus in Web of Shadows there was already that established history with Spidy so for Venom to all of a sudden want to reproduce and take over the world gave him a interesting twist but this Venom was just blah
I agree with what most are saying here, but I would like to add that I believe Sony forced this game out. Think about it Sony didn't really have any exclusive titles this year and the ones that they did have were terrible (minus FF 16), that being said I think Insomniac just cut most of Venom's content and were always planning to use it in a spinoff title. You even brought up in this video, the Venom they have been touting for months now is nowhere near the Venom we received in the game.
Seriously I have to wait to replay my fav missions and new game plus but fr it's just a cash cow now

Agree. Its such a shame. I don’t really feel that this take was that original either only the fact that it was Harry which we knew since 2018. Comparing this story to 2018 there’s no comparison - emotional core is missing.

I feel like they couldve made venom innocent. The suit was under control, and trying to help both harry and peter until it didnt want to leave peter. And the suit was scared at the scene where spidey says " destroy us?!" That rock messed with venom. They couldve done the black suit arc, have peter get rid of it, kraven gets the suit, harry starts experimenting with the rock to help stop kraven/venom. The rock causes the suit particles in harry to reactivate, we get a quick look at a red suit. Harry determines how to stop the suit, to stop kraven, who is strengthening his army with symbiotes of their own. The game ends similarly. No anti-venom, mister negative just turns himself in. The venom suit is either gone or contained. I figure eddie could investigate oscorp in a future game and stumble onto the suit that harry and peter dont trust. Harry could end up losing time, with carnage coming out whenever he sleeps.

The game itself is a fumble
Fans of this game have been the absolute worst man. You either loveee the game and overrate it or seriously underrate it and hate it. There can be zero middle ground of just being a good game with some faults according to most fans of this game.

The reason why this concept never worked was due to the fact that this Spider-Manseries revolves around mainly the spiderman cast while, in web of shadows the cast in the game had numerous villains and heroes from different background (wolverine, kingpin, black widow, etc) trying to stop Venom's world dominance. Web of shadows also established the comic accurate venom with his obsessive hatred of Spider-Man before telling its story 😂
