This olive wood came from the Phoenix, Arizona area. While rough turning the vase instead of a full hollow, I bored a 2 inch hole. At 2 inches, I can drive the Jacobs chuck into the vase without an extension.
The wet wood was sealed with Tree Saver Green Wood Sealer
    from Craft Supplies USA.
Over 17 months, the wood lost 24% of its weight through moisture loss.
Fortunately, no crack developed in the base.
This vase is approximately 5 inches diameter and 7 inches tall, finished with walnut oil.

Greetings neighbour, Nanaimo, enjoyed watching your video. I am a hobby turner that donates finished turnings to friends, my favourite wood to turn that I have been able to acquire is Yew.

I've always liked that shape of vase.
A little while back I had the pleasure of turning a small piece of olive wood and the grain is beautiful and it smells delicious.

My favorite wood is walnut. But that is only because I don't have a reasonable source of olive wood. Your vase is outstanding Alan. Beautiful figure and color. And I love the shape, it's a classic. Thank you for sharing. Have a great day and stay safe.

Looks great, Alan. I don't think you can go wrong with olive wood. Your patience level is much better than mine. Stay safe.

Alan, go things come to those that wait! It turned out beautifully. Patience, I think I heard of that once. In my older years, it’s hard to come by. Nice video!

Beautiful vase! I understand that in wet bowl turning the basic rule is for a wall thickness of 10% the diameter. Does that rule also apply to hollowing a vase and is the percentage of the largest diameter part?

It is a "rule of thumb" not a "rule" but it generally works.
