Wonderful movie and Anna Maria Alberhetti was beautiful, her voice was so beautiful also!
A fun movie. I liked the music a lot. The dog act was hilarious. To me the acting was very good.....a 50's classic style
Great cast, great dancing, great music, great singing, great acting !!! What more do you need ??? This is a excellent lullaby movie before to go to sleep !!! ❤❤❤😂😂😂😊😊😊 L.M.
Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful!!!!!!!!!!! Marvelous singing, acting, the whole story is so nice and gentle. All those who love music, particularly opera, will love this movie.
Movies from this era are so spirited!
At this time, reality was very grim, so movie studios were there to change the people's minds. Today, it's just the other way round : we have very little concerns but the movies are horrible, filled up with crimes, torture and so on.
@@misstoujoursplus I was alive at this time. Rather than being grim, it was in many ways a happier and most positive time, generally speaking.
@@EricLehner If you were born in the USA, you are right. I was born in France 20 years after the end of WW2. My parents were teenagers during the war and believe me, it was very hard and grim for them in 1953 : my parents weren't horrible, they never hit us but they were always sad and kind of drepressed. When I watched those american movies as a child, I was amazed by the positive attitude of the people. French movies were (and still are) very sinister, songs sounded depressing, people always moaning. So yes, 1953 must have been a happy time... in the USA.
The best interpretation of "Vesti la giubba" .
Fantastic musical, love it
Some of the best minutes of my life....
Movie of great talented performers!
Lauritz Melchoir was a Danish opera singer who went to the US before the war, a became quite popular in Hollywood .
That was a time when movie audiences would actually listen to classical music in a movie and appreciate it.
Lauritz Melchior was one of the greatest Helden tenors of the last century. It’s great to have him on film even in that latter part of his career.
Wonderful movie I will really enjoyed ❤❤❤❤👌👌👌👌
Wonderful movie. Hopefully u can download more great movies 👍🙂
Great movie
When Robert Kennedy was assassinated at the hotel, she was there and saw the murder. it cost her seriously mental health issues..So so sad 😢
Thank you for sharing this very interesting movie! I am glad for the good people, who have managed to escape from unhappy countries.
It is a movie. Reality was still harsh even for the good people who escaped from "unhappy" countries.
Rosemary Clooney had a great voice and she was also adorable. She should have had a better movie career.
So she was George Clooney's mum ?
She is George’s aunt. George’s father is Nick Clooney, Rosemary’s brother.
She was pregnant five times....... not a lot of roles for pregnant women..
Wow - didn’t know she had that many kids.
Bravo.
beautiful movie today… thanks
I love these old movies. Thank you
Thank you so much! This is wonderful. Bless you.
I was too tiny - in the early 50's - to see this film in the cinema. Fans, of course, were all aware of Rosemary Clooney as an actress and singer from a few of her films like Red Garters, White Christmas. I still enjoy her numbers from White Christmas that include Sisters [sung with Vera Ellen] and Love you didn't do right by me. This film also introduced the classical singer of record and stage, Anna Maria Alberghetti. Ms. Alberghetti grew quick to leading-lady status as Dean Martin's heroine in MGM's 'Ten Thousand Bedrooms', though it also featured in a prominent role, the European star, Eva Bartok and supported briefly by Lisa Gaye and Lisa Montell, rounding off the other sisters in the film. Anna Maria was also featured in a Jerry Lewis film 'Cinderfella'. However, big stardom in the movies eluded her, while she turned to television parts and continued singing on stage/records.
It's been awhile, but so love this movie.
Good cast, serviceable script and songs. Heavy on the Cold War propaganda. The schtick with the dog is dull as dishwater, but the Gene Kelly-style "daddy dance" is imaginative and charming!
Incredible movie! Love the story & singing part of it, Rosemary Clooney, amazing casts.💯👍🏼
Buddy is such a beautiful man...cute, and handsome, all in one ❤️
Enjoyed!
I find the topic of immigration interesting at this particular time, with what could be a good, old movie.
Released March 11th,1953

Someone saw something in Anna A! Her name alone!!!❤
WOW & WOW 💚🙏😇🙏💚WOW!!!
Never saw this one. Definitely a time capsule. My father recorded Ms. Clooney at Columbia Records NYC.
Thanks for uploading- great to finally see Clooney's feature film debut; she has a natural charm and likability onscreen, for sure. Anna Maria also does nice work, and that voice!
Such. Sweet dancing scene.

Nice to come across this obscure film. Rosemary Clooney was certainly movie star calibre, I wonder why she had such a brief movie career ? Unfortunately she's the only really good thing in this movie. I was disappointed that it's such a low budget production, with no even very slightly impressive musical numbers. Except for Albergetti who had some sort of career, the other actors were obscure and deserving of it. There are so many improbabilities in the plot, and in the way the plot is filmed, that it took me out of the movie. The supporting actor who's supposedly a comedian is truly irritating and completely unfunny; his schtik with the dog gets old very fast.
A slightly interesting thing about this Paramount movie is how much it's like some of the movies Joe Pastrinak produced at MGM and Universal -- combining pop-musical theater style singers with opera singers, and very slight plots about the performers. I could imagine this film being made at MGM with Katherine Grayson in her youngest years in the Albergetti part, and Ann Sothern in the Clooney part. But MGM would have given it more substantial production values and skilled supporting players.
Whoa, Dude! Eat out of the Grumpy cereal box this morning? Lighten up and live! 🙂
Ever hear of "Suspension of disbelief"?? It's a MOVIE, not reality ...
Rosemary was a huge star in the 50's. In the 60's she had problems w alcohol. Bing Crosby helped her mske a comeback in the 70's w White Christmas, after which she sang and recorded up until her death in 2022. I have many of her jazz albums, my dad adored her.
As for the plot, it was written around the songs. Script and songwriters brainstormed around a few songs specifically intended for a given singing star, the plot was loosely woven around to showcase their talent.
These were different times; movie goers would leave the film singing along to the songs on the radio - everybody sang them. No iphones, no solitary pc games, singing and working and living their best lives.
@@yodservant Correct! And record stores would be stocked with both singles of featured numbers and albums of the movie soundtrack They would also have the latest recordings of the movies stars nearby for customers to browse and purchase I loved going to the record store as a young teenager 😊
I think this was a B film, so not big budget. Rosemary had depression and battled her weight all her life.
poor dog

unfortunately, people were sent back to Europe and died in concentration camps...
"SCREWBALL" chaotic fractured-comedy.
Unfortunately it's wrapped in something I hate: 'opera' :(
But others will like it.
I had to fast forward through all the dog comedy parts. Pretty bad!
