I absolutely love my FJ Beast! I hunt deer in the mountains of northern Pa in December. I have to drive six miles off of the paved road just to get to the lane to the cabin. The lane is 1 mile long, crosses a creek, goes up a steep grade to the halfway point where I have to make a 90° turn to go up another steep grade to finally arrive at the cabin. Once there, I usually have to go back down to pick up my hunting buddies whose 4wd trucks and Jeeps can't make it up the hill. One of the guys has a Jeep that he put about $4,000.00. worth of off-road upgrades on. I make him say, "Pretty please" before I'll go get him and his gear. LOVE MY FJ BEAST!
@@thebeast1727 Still have it and she runs like a dream. No trouble with the FJ at all. I feed her premium gas, change the oil on schedule, keep her shod with good Yokahama rubber and I don't baby her.
I’ve seen Jeeps get stuck plenty of times. I feel like they are known for durability and off road capabilities, minus deep snow, they probably dominate just about everything else on trails tho lol.
@@timeisnow4116 They are great in deep snow. They aren't very reliable though. I've had many Jeeps. Check my blizzard videos. Goes right through snow 3 times this deep! But, tires make a huge difference. Stock tires on base models are crap. I use Wrangler Duratrac tires on my Jeeps (I don't have any Jeeps anymore; currently have a FJ Cruiser).
I was here in D.C. for the 2015 blizzard. I have a black FJ Cruiser. Me and 2 other people were the only ones to make it in to work! Thank God for the FJ!
I love watching vehicles in snow. I've had my stock 2003 Subaru Outback in 2' of snow with all season tires and never got stuck! I can't imagine what would happen if I had snow tires or chains but man do I wish I had a 4WD lo or something as it would definitely help a bit!
my friends said I should have gotten a jeep...after seeing this I am so glad I am getting an fj instead. This weekend get to pick her up and I am more excited than a kid on Christmas morning.
Tires tires tires kids. There are comments here about chains and tire pressure and lifts and other 4x4's getting stuck. Here is the real deal. Winter tires compared to all season tires of any make or model will always be better in snow/slush/ice. The short explanation...the rubber on all season tires becomes hard due to the cold at around 5 celsius and as the temperature drops that increased 'hardness' has a very negative effect on traction. So if you ride on all seasons in the snow letting the air out will give you a little bit more traction, not much mind you and will affect driving stability and speed. Chains are great, but a pain to install and severely limit tire spin when stuck (as they will fly off and decapitate the neighbor's annoying dog) and will of course affect driving speed. The winter tire is made to stay malleable at low temperature (-40c) and will provide above average traction in wet and dry winter driving conditions. No speed limit or tire spin restrictions and if you decide to purchase studded tires...well your king then. The negative side...they wear much faster than all season tires in warm(er) winter conditions. '09 FJ Cruiser with GoodYear winterforce tires....studded of course.
Guess that answers my question about my new to me FJ Cruiser snow handling. My Tacoma I traded in which was a base model would've done that but not as smooth. Problem is here in Iowa the wind blows and packs the snow, I've actually gotten stuck like the Jeep in a 4x4 Dodge half ton and had to dig because it's lifting the frame enough the tires can't dig in the middle of a rural highway. That thing was normally good in the winter and the only time ever stuck.
lol awesome video, as an FJ owner and past Jeep owner I love the comedic side of the video and yes those chains you have must make you unstoppable. Ive had much experience in my FJ in the snow and can say they are beasts no doubt, again great video thanks for sharing.
Up here on Long Island, we too had over two feet of snow, and my O8 FJ was plowing through drifts well over two feet. Had one slight hick-up when I hit a snow bank going up a hill. I used the diff lock, and a little digging, and got her out. My friends were impressed to say the least. The K&N CAI, with the Magnaflow Headers/exhaust were growling like a beast from Hell. Great Video.
I own an fj and can tell u personally that i done the same thing except without chains the fj is the king of off roads not a chevy nor a ford there gas hogs i travel in mine great gas and dont even have to lift it
@@cosmicemp1re756 I'll answer it based on mine I get about 265 miles to the tank which isn't good but I don't give a shit I love this vehicle that I own 2012 FJ
I also have an FJ Cruiser in DC area, but I don't have guts to test my FJ in such heave 27" snow, because I have been stock in snow 10 years ago with my 1999 Ford Explorer. Good to know that 4H (4WD High) with A-Trac on gives you excellent traction in snow at all speeds. I love your video.
Love it! I have a set of Michelin Ltx right now that are about 4 years old (I know it’s horrible) and my fj still plows through the snow no problem. I’ve had jeeps in the past, but my fj outdrives them all day!
Stock 2005 Durango limited, with all terrain tires. I had to stop in the middle of a hill because a Philly city bus was stuck. A lady gets off the bus and walks directly in front of my truck so I came to a dead stop. Huge 4 lane highway behind me, 2.5 ft of snow and it was still coming down. Locked the diff, had it in 4 lo - put my foot down and it took off like a goat. Toyota reliability is unsurpassed but my Durango is a beast, for real. It's heavy with terrible gas mileage but it's unstoppable in real bad weather. Also- I was in DC for the blizzard. It wasn't bad at all. We had a white out in Delaware and cars were in ditches as far as the eye could see. Good times. Lol
Buy some Bridgestone blizzaks for that FJ and you don't need any tire chains! BEST WINTER TIRES YOU CAN BUY! This is the vehicle you want during a Snowpocalypse! Just be sure you have the right tires on!

it is definitely true i owned a 2007 blue and white 2 tone fj, everything stock. The snow blizzards in ny that had everything stuck and i was able to easily drive around in.
I had a 79 Bronco with a good set of 33’s mudders on it and it went anywhere when we had 21 inches of snow. They don’t make them like that anymore. Heavy lead sleds.
My 2016 Ram Rebel ate that snow for breakfast bro. no problems here whatsoever. But.... this is a very impressive video indeed. I've owned jeeps all my life as well. If the Jeep couldn't do it chances are the driver is at fault. My last and most prized jeep is my 2005 red wk with 4 inche Oldman emu lift and 33 inche tires. Absolutely love it!!
A huge thing that the fj has going for it over pretty much every other stock 4x4 is the rear locker. With that engaged you have a solid 3 wheel drive since the front differential is still open. When you have a regular 4x4 with front and rear open differentials you really only have 2 wheel drive because only one front wheel and one rear wheel is getting power the other wheels just sit there. The locker on the fj locks the rear together so both wheels get even power and turn at the same speed and the one front wheel is getting power when 4 wheel is on that's a big advantage. Along with good tires its pretty much unstoppable. You could add a front locker as well but with the independent front suspension that puts a lot of strain on the CV joints when turning.
Anthony Stauffacher the Jeep Wrangler rubicon has front and rear lockers. The Jeep would probably make it through conditions like this if it had a better driver and chains.
Gabe I agree with that. Driver does make a big difference. I don't know how many people I've seen trying to drive through deep snow being real heavy on the gas and getting themselves stuck. Not breaking traction is the real key. Having lockers can really help in not loosing grip. I've driven through over 20" of snow with my Tahoe that has open front and rear diff's without chains and not gotten stuck. You just can't break traction. And if you do don't sit there spinning, ease into the gas and if you have to back up and get another run at it do it. In deep snow like that there aren't many people around on the unplowed roads.
I know I'm late to the game, but the difference here was wisdom and chains on all 4 wheels. FJ would have gotton stuck without them. The Jeep? Well, inexperience and no chains. In Colorado snow storms with this type snow, rugular 4x4s get stuck too. Usually wrong tires, its too deep, venturing w no chains. Props to the FJ driver. Snow bashing is fun

what people don't understand is tires/chains make all the difference... I could have a modified FJ and it wouldn't go anywhere in summer tires. I was slowly plowing through slightly damp packed snow covering my whole bumper on my lowered FWD hatchback because I had winter tires on and a little know how about how to drive in snow. that jeep most likely had all-seasons tires, not in 4WD and the driver flooring it.

No. Just another dead Chrysler.
