So I have had conversations with this guy when he was living in American Samoa. At one point in his life he was, I believe homeless in Utah, and the tongans around the area took him in, which is how he learned Tongan, that, and because they’re are heaps of Tongans in American Samoa to practice with. I don’t quite remember how he ended up in AS, but I met him through a mutual friend from the village of Leone. I am super surprised and grateful to see him on CZcams of all places! Glad that he’s doing well!

I have watched this video several times as my bf came across it because we've been learning Samoan. Me, coming from a Samoan family I know words but I can't really speak it. But being a born and raised Aucklander, knowing the otara markets are an absolutely perfect place to converse in Samoan, this was hilarious af I was laughing so hard. The humor is so good. "Who ate the apple?" "the snake" hahaha I love it. Good on you bro

Straight up white guy here, (with a tiny bit of Maori from my estranged mother's side) stumbled across this.. It was beautiful.. I admire people who are connected to culture and their native tongue.. It was beautiful to see the interactions and connections with the people on a real human level despite the perceived differences due to appearance..

Nothing like hearing one of the Maori bro's bless the hangi in Maori at work. Born in NZ but grew up in American Samoa. Speaking the native tongue is a big part of keeping the culture alive. There are a few half Samoan Maori families there I grew up with. One family were of Samoan Maori Japanese decent. That some warrior bloodlines right there. Never lose your native tongue, keep it strong.
