You guys are hilarious. The “little swords” 😂 are pop rivets. Kitchen sealant won’t keep that frame in place as it’s sealant not adhesive. The no nails would’ve been much better, then use the sealant to seal the edges. And the drill bit is for brick/stone so no good for wood. Throw them away only need wood and metal drill bits on da boat! 😂❤
haha thank you for the tips! 🤣 we tried! 😅💞
@@BoatTime was a brilliant watch. Love you guys. The wife and I are hoping to live aboard a boat soon. 🙏🙏😘
thank you! 😊 oooh good luck to you both!! @@EmmaAndNeil
Drills go in two directions , there is a “key” that is usually attached to the cord that you can change direction, drill a hole into the wood or back the drill out of the hole by changing direction. Annddd use the right drill bit for the surface you’re drilling ie metal or wood as Neil said, and sealant isn’t glue for sure.
@@jillipepper5353 there won't be a key on a cordless drill like that, the chuck is just a twist type to change between the various drill bits or screwdriver bits, and the forward and reverse gears are located just above the trigger. Most cordless drills also have 2 speed settings usually a big switch ontop of the machine, speed 1 for screws, and speed 2 for drilling holes etc. - just so y'all know 😊
That was 40 minutes of pure joy and laughter. Amy I know you think the vlog ended on a downer but just look at how far you've both come - you've literally done electrical and plumbing and even managed to sort out the water issue (even if it was a temporary fix). When I do get a boat I'm going to hire you both to sort it all out for me 😊
Thanks Michael! 😂 Yeah you're right! We definitely need to celebrate the victories from this 😊💕 Haha we can't think of anyone better for a boat fit-out 🤣
Those 'tiny swords' are used by the shower worms to settle disputes.
😂😁😁😀😂😁😁😂😂🤣🤣
🤣🤣🤣 outstanding comment 👏🏻
😂😂😂
lol exactly 😜😂
LOL 😂😂
Amy, for someone with psoriasis you are fearless! ❤❤❤❤ well done. Be proud. And always do the worst jobs first
Thank you so much! I work really hard mentally to not let it bother me. That's lovely of you to say 😊💕💕💕
@BoatTime little star Amy xxx
I am proud of you both for everything you did. Next time I come to the UK, I can give you two days and come and fix everything on your boat.
The 'little swords' are pop rivets. They are used, amongst other things, for pinning sheet of metal to other sheets of metal. You need a rivet gun to use them.
Ahhh, we had no idea haha thank you! 😊 don't think we have a use for them afterall
@BoatTime Love that you referred to drills as 'hole cutting attachements'. Priceless.
The drill you used on the wood was a masonry drill that's why it was taking so long to drill😊
and making a rounded hole.
Wes' quiet comment that they don't want to get shut out of the bathroom "again" was pure comedy
You two are the most genuine and wonderful couple of vlogers on CZcams. The warts and all approach to your videos makes your videos so so watchable. It is so easy to laugh along with you as you struggle with some jobs but also to rejoice in your successes. Whatever the future holds promise that you will never loose you sense of humour, optimism and your obvious love for each other. I met you once in 2022 when you called into my marina at Weltonfield Narrowboats near Norton Junction on your way down to winter on the K & A.
The drilling debacle made me laugh. Like watching Laurel and Hardy. My advice? Local hardware store and a cheap set of all-purpose drills. Toss everything else. Your cordless drill seems fine, just be aware of the direction you’re going in. While you’re at it, find out the difference between glue and sealant. It’ll save you a lot of grief later on. Love the channel and stay above water!
Bless your hearts. I can so relate to this and how long fixing anything on a narrow boat takes. The sense of excitement when the gulper spurts out the side is something normal people ( by this I mean non narrowboaters 😂) just wouldn’t understand. And then the accumulator. This is something I have ignored hoping it will just do its thing. It scares me so I think you did amazingly. Love you guys x
I could say rivets like everyone else.. but instead I just wanted to send you both a hug- what a day!
aw thank you that's very kind! It was a stressful day for sure but we learned so much!!
Funniest DIY vid ever, rivets will always be little swords and I’m going glue everything with sealant from now on. You’re the best. Changing the rules of life.. 👍😀
If you had told me that I'd be watching 40 minutes of someone doing DIY, I wouldn't have believed you. But you guys are so entertaining. I laughed, I cried, i got grossed out by shower worms. Most of all I was just cheering for your success. I'm sorry it ended on a sad note, but I'm sure by now you have solved the problem. You two deserve all the happiness in the world. Awesome teamwork! xo
Aw thank you so much 😂 We're so glad we could entertain someone who also doesn't like DIY! Thanks for the kind words! 💕💕
Those little swords obviously mean that you have Borrowers on board 🤣
Oooohhh it all makes sense now 🤣🤣
@@BoatTime 😁
Bet they live on shower worms 😂
I’m quite familiar with little swords, been using them for years. I’ve also used masonry drill bits, such as the one you used to drill into your wooden window frames! 😅the main thing is that you learn by your mistakes, like all of us are supposed to do.
The timelapse by the river was so pretty!
So sorry to watch you having so much trouble with the accumulator tank, right at the end of the day. What a bummer after you had such a productive day! I expect you have now found this out as it was a few weeks ago when you filmed it, but.... I cringed when Amy used the hot knife to cut the Hep2O water pipe. The problem was, you see, it left a ridge of melted plastic around the end. You need a clean end for these fittings to work, the pipe has to push into an O-ring inside the fitting and the ridges prevented that. Nice save though before bedtime, well done.
Proper as heck! This momma is so proud of you.
You two are brilliant, I love your have a go attitude! I did giggle at your disclaimers across the bottom of the screen 😂
Thank you so much 😁 glad you enjoyed haha!
One possible option for sealing the wood-burning stove chimney joints is "exhaust assembly paste", which you can get in most DIY or car parts places. As the name implies, it is designed for sealing up gaps in engine exhaust pipes where one piece has to connect to another, such as where the silencer or catalytic converter joins on. It's got the consistency of soft putty as it comes out of the tube, but after a few hours it sets hard as rock - and the setting time is reduced if you heat it up, so you don't have to wait for it to set before you expose it to heat. Depending on the brand, it is rated for 1000 degrees C, sometimes more, so it should easily tolerate the temperatures a wood burning stove chimney gets to.
Well done on your epic repairs. We've got loads of this to look forward to when we get our narrowboat over the summer. I love that boaters aren't afraid to show how things really are when you live aboard a boat. Great video ❤👍🏼
From comedy to tragedy 😂😢 Absolutely loved this one but so wanted to give you both a hug at the end. Hope you get the water thingy (technical term) sorted really soon.
I thought I’d accidentally clicked on Crobots vlog by mistake with all this DIY then 😂😂. Great Job Guys 👏🏻👏🏻
You both did awesome.... i enjoyed that even learned something with the cutting blade . Thanks guys
SO proud of you for the whale gulper installation. Your videos are just brilliant. Well done! Love from Bristol 😊
By far the best narrowboat vlog channel, you guys are a barrel of laughs
Hey Wes, the "little swords" are what a frog would say alot .... "rivet" , "rivet", "rivet".......
What a day full of successes ..we have been there, want to go to bed but can't got to clear up first..there was pride and laughter...
Classic Boat Time! Absolutely love your DIY The Big List vids, you really did triumph, gave it go and OMG what a laugh!! Always here for more x
Firstly, very well done on getting the Whale gulper plumbed in so well in such a tight space. It is never easy in tight confines - you feel like you can only get one hand in, but need three plus one more to hold a light, one more with a cloth and one more to pass tools. A lack of bones or arms with extra elbows would help. Perhaps a trained octopus is the answer.
Secondly, I would like to suggest that for future projects always start with the one that if something goes wrong it would leave issues that can't be simply left for another day. The plumbing needed to be done in the morning so that you would have had time to go get new fittings from a shop or someone to help if it goes wrong. Sounds defeatist maybe, but it isn't really. Plans need to cover worst case scenario while hoping for the best and needing to pop out and get a couple of extra new fittings is common with plumbing jobs. Having the wrong parts over a number of projects over the years means I now have more than a drawer full of plumbing bits, so I actually manage to do some repairs without needing a trip to the shop first. I think you are using PEX from the look of it. I have never used PEX, it is not a thing here yet, but I see people online either love or hate it - the same goes for Shark. Here it is still glue mostly. I'm not sure which I would prefer. I'm familiar with glue, but you only get one chance each time - once glue is added, that's it - no second chance. It becomes a case of cutting it all out and starting again.
Thirdly - those aluminium things on what look like nails that you asked us to identify - they are pop-rivets. Excellent for holding 2 bits of thin metal together, but they require a rivet gun to use them. A cheap tool, but perhaps don't buy one until such time as you need to use one, and even then you can often borrow one. They are manual, no batteries/power required, so they are easy to master.
While looking at tools, the first drill bit you tried to use - the silver one with what looks like a flat bit let into the end of it - that is only for use in masonry, it is a masonry bit, so unless you need to drill into one of your ballast bricks it is not of any use on a boat really. The second one you used (black one) is a high speed steel bit - for use drilling into metals, but can be used to metals and plastics too. In fact pretty much anything other than masonry. Depending on the grade it might not be any good for stainless steel either - drill bits for stainless steel tend to be expensive because it is a harder metal. By the way, it could be a trick of the video, but it did look like you were trying to drill into that wood with the drill in reverse gear.
I love your willingness to get stuck in and fix/improve stuff. It is a great attitude. From your comments I believe you are watching some online videos on the subject too. Always watch at least 3 different ones because some are terrible and should be taken offline, so with 3 or more you stand a good chance of at least catching one good one. Some DIY stores and and hardware stores have staff who are happy to explain the difference between various tools and why certain things are better than others for whatever you are planning to do. Sometimes some staff know nothing or can't be bothered to help, but if you don't ask you don't know. If you have spare time you can also study the various tools in a DIY store. Take a look at wood drill bits, metal drill bits and masonry drill bits. You will see they have different shaped ends, so then you will be instantly able to identify them. Always handy!
Through all the trials and tribulations you managed to keep filming and maintain positive attitudes. For that you guys rock!
Tim & Jalika, Malaysia
That was so painful but so entertaining 😂😂😂
Oh Guys... you did so much!!!!! That was a huge list!!! Well done :D I *Need* a real fire too so I can do that to all my lists when they're done... I might actually do the things on the list then!!!
Well you had to open the can of worms 😂 bless you both , you done so much .. and when you said can we go to bed now and panned the camera to the bed!!!... I love watching your channel 😂
Shower worms 😂😂 on a serious note, you guys did bloody fabulous. How much you accomplished & learning new skills, all in one day. That was a mammoth day. Big hug guys xxx
Oh my goodness guys. Big up to you both and I hope this day has faded! But absolutely amazing to you both for sticking through it. 👏👏👏
I feel so guilty for laughing hysterically at the beginning and middle , then felt so sorry for you at the end. I hope you got it sorted out eventually. I got a new toilet bowl in my house and it took three visits from two different qualified plumbers to fix some spectacular leaks so don't feel too bad about your efforts xxxx
Hahah don't feel guilty, we love being able to look back and laugh 😅💕 oh that's reassuring that even the pros struggle from time to time! x
You pair are so funny at least you tried you got through all your jobs and ended on a low but at least you try and crack on well done wish you all the best
I reckon one needs to be a Ninja to live on a narrowboat, the tiny spaces where one as to crouch into or crawl under. 😢
You both are so adaptable, eventually you get the job done. Well done guys.😅
You truly are Ninjas 💚
Haha that's a very good point! 😅 you really have to contort yourself sometimes, but I guess it keeps your muscles moving 😂 thank you for watching! 💕
'Jubilee clip up the wazoo', is that a proper technical term. 😂😂I'm gonna use that. I'm loving this DIY video.❤❤
The feeling of pride I had when you two fitted the new shower pump 😂😂. Well done you two 🙌🏻
Absolutely incredible that you kept going , you’re both amazing,
Without doubt your best Video so far. It brightened up a long winter night. Please please please more Diy videos.
Good job , if you never try you never learn .❤️❤️
Thank you! DIY is a whole new world to us, we gotta give it a good go or we will never improve! 😊💞
Well said 😁
Oh wow, you guys did so amazingly well! Look at what you DID accomplish regardless of that last job which was a hard job to do! Well done, you’re both awesome!!! 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩
Thank you so much!! You're right, we did well, even if the last one went a bit wonky 🤣🤣💕💕
Hey Wes... You know that last job is all your fault.... You said all we have to do.... Never. Never challenge universe. You guys did amazing. Doing it all in one day was huge. You did so well. The pipes will be sorted soon enough. Super dooper proud
Hi Wes and Amy, thank you for another great video. I do love that you show REAl boat life
Little swords are rivets used to join things like sheet metal etc with a rivet gun thingy. Drill bits didn't work as you were using a masonry bit (one with pokey out bits on end.) And a metal bit has a spikey bit on end, should have still worked the metal one but guess is just you. You want the gold coloured ones normally work. You need something like Sikaflex for your windows etc as with expansion and contraction over summer and winter the sealant will last about 6 months to a year. Everyone's terrible at DIY to begin with but you learn from your mistakes and improve. You's certainly make plenty of them so yo will be DIY experts in no time 🙂
Jubilee clip up the wazzoo 😂😂 sounds painful 😂😂😂😂 love you guys when you do things like this. Nothing seems to stop you, well done guys.
Tiny swords are pop rivets... the first drill you used looked like a masonry drill...
But none of that really matters coz we're proud of the pair of you with your DIY skillz!
Haha yep, turns out we definitely weren't using the right thing 😅 but hey, as long as you get the result 🤣 Thanks for the kind words! 💕
We love you two! 🎉well done with the DIY jobs you work a lot better together than me and my husband ever would 😂😂
comedy gold...well done
You both deserve a medal for all the work you achieved. Well done, but my heart was in my mouth during the last job you did. I bet you both slept well through exhaustion. I think next time you have a list, just do a couple of things a day over a couple of weeks. Less stress hopefully for you and us!! Bye for now ❤
😂😂😂 how you guys are still alive is a mystery to me, but I’m very proud of your plumbing work. Yes it didn’t work, but you learned! I would be terrified to even try.
Great video guys 👍
You both did really well be proud of your achievements x
We have all been there, just doing that one extra diy task is a bit like deciding to just go round the next bend in case the mooring is better - most of the time we live to regret it :) thanks for such fun and engaging videos.
Wow. Look at what you achieved. Although the pump gave me anxiety too.
When I’ve had to fix a couple of water issues here, I’ve filled my kettle so I can still make some cups of tea, a water bottle so I can clean my teeth and a bucket or two to flush the loo before I’ve turned the water off. And made sure my dogs water bowls were full. That way it didn’t matter too much that I had to wait until the next day for a plumber.
But seriously... well done you two.
Ps. I’m a Chippy’s ( Oz slang for Carpenter) daughter ... so the drilling and the sawing also made my heart race.
But total kudos to you re your hot pipe cutting method ...totally would have done the same thing.
Ps. Hope you had a very good night’s sleep after that amazing and well done effort.
Omg this is so funny 😂😂 love you guys xx
Thank you 🤣🤣
Lovely video guys.🍺🍺
After noticing everyone leaving nearly identical comments.. here is mine. A few books I highly recommend anyone who owns a boat having on hand. Things will become a lot less difficult & hopefully show you if the job ahead is some you guys want to tackle, or call someone out to do it for you.
Btw you guys need to use plumbers tape (teflon band etc) for any threads that involve water.
There is more - but I think these books will show you the way better than I can explain here. Plus having knowledge on hand cuts down on anxiety :)
Boatowner's Mechanical and Electrical Manual by Nigel Calder
The Narrowboat Builder's Book by Graham Booth
The 12 volt Bible for boats by Miner Brotherton
Great video& here is to you guys figuring out how to "fix" the rest.
But hey, without trying no one learns, so here is to that!!
(One last one.. btw you can call the manufacturer and see if this pump is compatible with your boat)
Okay okay last one: before starting any mechanical or electrical work& as you go along, make sure you take pics as you do. That way its easier to put things correctly back together & if things go sideways anyone you call has an immediate reference of what& how you did things. Plus remembering what wire goes where etc is sometimes a bit hard. But if you have pics, you now know exactly what goes/went where. Saving time& stress. A video isnt the best as its oft not taken as up close as any pics are.
Oh my....those jobs are so hard even with more space. I would quit long before!! Good for you and we all hope they work for the long haul!!
Well done to both of you for sticking with it.
Thank you! 💕💪🏻
26:33 " ... like other peoples' boats?" Love it!
I just shook my head but I couldn’t stop watching 😅. Call Lauren and Adam from The Floating Home. Lauren would have had it all done in five minutes. You all could’ve gone out for chips. Yum. Keep up the DYI
Suggestion for new merch. A T-shirt with: “We know this isn’t how you’re supposed to do this…but”
Hi Amy and Wes. Another Boat Time DIY classic 😄 You did really well but I was really willing you to realise the drill was probably in reverse and you needed wood drill bits rather than masonry ones. You did really well with the shower pump. Sorry that the accumulator tank didn’t work but I’m sure it has been sorted by now 🥰 Take care. Nick
Long list ,my hat 🥳 off to you both .Thank for all the hard work .🤗☘️💚
7mm Masonry drill bit will not cut in to wood😊
Thank you!! 💕😊 Got there in the end!
Yeah we didn't realise it was for masonry at the time 😅
The masonry bit are the ones with the flat tungsten coated end.
Aah you guys are making superb content . I found you by mistake searching the Montgomery canal last weekend , since my house is on it . I’ve been watching you since ❤️. Fantastic
Awesome! Thank you so much! Welcome 😊
Amazing, we loved the Montgomery and will be back for sure to check out the new section! exciting
@@BoatTime I binge watched you . Since you came here they’ve opened up about 1 mile of new section . They are already doing the next part with a new bridge being made . I love alternative lifestyles , pets , canals , cooking and gaming 😂 it’s the perfect Channel for me .
@@carlrogers9097that's so lovely we are glad you are enjoying! 😊
Liquid nails would be best for your frame. Future reference. Keep a damp cloth handy to get any bits that seep out. As for the "little swords" give them away. If you don't have a pop right gun, they are useless to you. Thankyou for your fun time on boat time❤️😅
We love you guys, keep going ❤️ Bel & Glenn
Thank you so much guys! so kind 💕😊
You did so well! I just wanted to send the elves and fairies in to sort the rest of it out for you so you could both get to bed bless you both. Hugs to Rufus (Mr C and I call him Woofus) and Doops ❤
Hey guys, you asked about that funny tiny aluminum thing that you have lots of. It is a pop rivet and requires a special tool to install them. The rivets come in various lengths and diameters. You can also get them in stainless as well as aluminum. Very useful item for DIYers.
Your "hole drillers" (drilling holes for magnets) are actually concrete bits for drilling into masonry and concrete. If you do use them to drill a hole in masonry etc. it is necessary to spray them with water to keep the drill cool.
Mark Alberta, Canada
😂you guys are awesome, please put out more DIY vlogs❤
Proud of you trying ti do all the jobs some things need a bit of a helping hand but you gave it your best shot proud of you tc both luv from the oldies 👍👍🤗🤗🌸🥀🌺😊
I know you guys were deflated in the end, but WELL DONE YOU. Now, will you come to Kansas and replace my shower pan???
Well I think that vlog was definitely worth watching, as a result of watching the chuckle siblings attempting DIY has reassured me that I’m note alone….. 😅
Good job Amy & Wes
Love that your level of DIY is the same as ours although hubby thought you were using a drill bit for brick not wood hence why ypu weren't making progress fast. Such a funny video. This would definitely have my anxiety levels up but you looked like you were having a blast
That was a funny video loved every minute brought tears to me eyes we'll done on shower pump. Look. Forward to the nxt one... Gr8 couple Gr8 videos thanks for the laughter 👍
Haha thank you! Glad we could entertain 🤣 Thanks so much for the kind words 💕💕
❤😂You both are awesome...
🤣💞 thank you! we tried haha!
Awww new boat pets 🪱❤
the drill bit you were using with the T piece on the end is a masonary drill and wont drill anything else ,you need drill bits for wood and steel
Next episode refloating our home😮 good video 💪👍
thank you! 🤣 hope not!!
What stars. I think you’re very brave tackling all those jobs - remember most of them went well so the day was mostly very successful 👏👏
Thank you so much! 💕 Yeah we must remind ourselves of the achievements, not the mishaps 😊
Hay don’t be so disheartened guys, with no DIY/Plumbing or Electoral knowledge, I think you’ve done rather well considering 🤪 sometimes you’ve just got to put your hands up & say “OK we tried” 👍🏻 ❤️❤️❤️ X X X
Well done guys for getting your jobs done. Wish I lived in the UK so I could give you a hand.😊
Love watching your videos when doing diy. You were going so well getting them all done, but next time set a timer to finish around 6pm.
The shower worms are most likely mosquito larvae. Standing water anywhere attracts mosies to lay eggs.
The little swords are rivets the drill Bit is for masonry you need a wood drill bit😂😂😂
Amy you are a D l Y phenomenon,with Wes’s support.Thanks for the hot knife tip👍maybe one job too far😢
Thank you!! 💪🏻💕 We're slowly getting a bit better, definitely one job too far... Use the knife trick with caution! 🙏🏻💕
I reckon Accumulator on a plank should be an official Doom weapon mesen 🤔......😳
Pop rivets you drill a hole through two sheets of metal then you use a pop rivet gun to pull the rivet through the two sheets of metal to hold both sheets together
Well done guys for all jobs you temp done more you do better you get hope you done water leek know have a good week stay warm and dry guys
Thank you!! so far so good on the water, so i think we got away with it! 😊💕
"This is like actual plumbing" 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Good job guys
Thank you, that means a lot! 😊
Such a good wife. One lucky man
Wow well done for what you completed. We hope you managed to d as let the water out. x
The little worms were Silverfish. They love damp conditions and usually come up through people's drains.
Oh that makes sense. Must've crawled through the exit hole 🤢
You'll have no canal bank left with that powerful shower pump 😂
