I do the same thing, forget to paint the edge until finished with the painting. I used to use a brush to do this but found it so much easier to use a small sponge roller brush.

This is a seriously lovely piece.
I’ve been a full time artist for a number of decades now and for a few of those painted in Acrylic until I switched to oils. I’m having to return to acrylics for a few new artworks and getting used to them again has been a tad iffy at times……watching you paint has been a nice way of getting my acrylic mojo back again!

I really really love the way you explain and talk. My words are also the same like you that I want to grow and grow. Recently, I have made a hyper realistic cat acrylic painting. Literally, I started with a different reference photo and started over with new one on the same canvas as I was frustrated with the outcome. I'm not a professional artist. I mainly learn to draw portraits, paintings from CZcams. And you are one of my teacher. I wish I could share my paintings with you so that I can learn more about my flaws and mistakes. ❤

It takes time, it is normal to struggle on an area, the quality of the image makes a big difference, it can be longer than expected to get to the level when we are ready to start. Such a good point to making sellable art. It's all well and good to paint gorgeous pieces and if you're painting for pleasure OR have the time and/or safety net to allow for just painting how you prefer, fantastic. But as someone who has worked in a gallery and now promotes artists around the world, I can completely concur that without a plan you likely won't get far. Understanding your customer is just as important as any other business. Its kind of why artists tend to have a trickier time... left brain vs right brain type of thing. Excited to see your video on this!

Brother, this is my exact proccess lol. But you gotta try painting on birch wood canvas. I love how much smoother and stable it is after gesso and sanded. Plus it is like what the old masters painted on. 😊 You rock
