Man i have M1 mini and im colorist, your problems with premier and whatever editing software is editing in H264 files, is you use better codec Prores or Native BIG cameras Run perfect, Braw, even R3D run like butter. Just use a 1080 timeline, you dont need 4k or 6k timeline for editing or color grading, you can change to 4k for delivery or if you want to fix something in the skin
This is one of the very few reviews that actually shows real life performance and understand and empathize with different levels of usage. A lot of other reviews just read the specs and are really generic. Great job man!
You can get 144Hz on M2 Mini's HDMI 2.0 port. As long as it's under the bandwidth of 4k 60Hz, you'll reach it. On M2 Pro Mini, it's HDMI 2.1. 2.1 has variable refresh rate and a higher bandwidth. You can also get variable refresh rate on M2 Mini but on Thunderbolt ports only
Really enjoyed your video. Excellent description and it’s the first video that clearly demonstrates how the use impacts the computer. I’ve watched many that talk about it but don’t clearly demonstrate it, so well done. I am what I would consider a mid-workload user so I think this would serve me just right. As I said, up to now, nobody showed it as well and this video just confirmed that choosing it was the right decision for me. Thanks and keep up the great videos!
Videos like this are immensely helpful! So many reviewers sell the stats, and “Why you need this machine”. Having a video that is “What you actually need” is huge. I need to build a new work set up, but I don’t an M2 Ultra to process 8k video through 3 monitors while streaming. That’s what reviews normally lean towards, and why this video is so vital!
Your videos are awesome. Love the work you put in them, it stands out. Also, the thing that you make real usage review helps to understand which specs are okay to our workflow. I must say, at first I didn't think RAM usage would be so different from the M1 MB Air (which you helped me with too), but when you opened like everything that machine had, I changes my mind. Keep the good work mate!
Out of the 100 articles and videos this is the only video that was really helpful, about which mac mini model really fits me , thank you a lot man , you have saved me like 500$
Brilliant video thank you for talking about the Air and Mini, it was just what I was after. I’m a front-end dev and do a bit of a Electron and I was racking my head if I need to spec out a mini/Air
Hey man, great videos and I appreciate the in depth videos a ton. I was wondering if you could do an in depth video on how you use Notion. I'm trying to learn how to use it but I guess a downside of the great program, is it a bit overwhelming at first until you figure it out.
Thanks for your review. Could you please tell me how can I get 144hz at 4k in same model monitor? Should I have to use type c to display port for this?
I want to know whether 8gb ram and 256gb ssd variant is good for iOS app development along with iOS emulator. I've heard so much that we need 16gb ram for emulator and development so could you please clarify?
About the refresh rate, I have my Mini M1 connected via thunderbolt/displayport to the xiaomi widescreen monitor at 144hz, and its only available using displayport, not HDMI, so I guess it has to be the same ass the M2, no?
How did you connect your Mac mini to your Anker usb c dock? You mention using a thunderbolt cable for amazing speeds but then how did you connect it to the usb c dock? Thanks!
thank you for this. You just made my life a lot easier . I just went with the base model for now first time mac user and will be use for coding mostly.
Can the base Mac Mini be powered solely by the USB C? My monitor has 65W USB C which can work as display port as well. Would make the setup even cleaner with just simgle cable.
Hi! I know you mentioned in the video that if you start doing some more demanding tasks that you would recommend the M2 Pro chip. That too much out of my budget. Do you think upgrading the ram to 16Gb would be a good enough solution?
I just did the exact same thing. I still have an Intel MacBook Pro 16" from 2019 with 16GB RAM, and there are already some applications I can't use anymore. For video editing with DaVinci and photo editing in Lightroom, I definitely need more CPU and RAM. In 2025, I would like to buy the Mac Studio when the M4 comes out. However, since I haven't been traveling much lately and the MacBook Pro has been mostly docked for the past two years, it's good to switch to a quiet Mac Mini. The constantly loud fan noise from the MBP is annoying. Even after cleaning everything, it’s still constantly audible. I opted for the Mac Mini with 24GB RAM and the 1TB SSD. I think it’s absolutely fitting for what I need right now and gives me plenty of power.
Selling my gaming pc and buying an m2 pro Mac mini soon and going to get serious about learning software development. I’ll definitely look into coding dojo. Thanks for the awesome down to earth review 🙏🏻
@@salzkraut8176 I bought it for iOS development and other stuff, and partly to help me from wasting time gaming. My kids have consoles and I have other laptops, and they always gaming too much… Unlike when I was a kid. They never have to share computers.
8gb ram VS 16gb Ram please Am using M2 Air with 16b, thinking on what configuration i should get on the Mac Mini as does that $200 upgrade of Ram worth?
Hi, I wish to buy a M2 mini as a desktop computer. I never edit video and I never use application like Finalcut. The M2 pro it's definitely too powerfull for me. But I'm looking for a mac mini that will last 5 years. What do you think of the M2 mini / 512 Gb / 16 RAM ??

I just got my Mac with the exact same specs, it’s enough for Flutter, Swift, Kotlin, etc. It’s much better for emulation than processors without arm architecture.
I love doing these in-depth reviews... I hope it saves you guys some money and yields a better ROI within your purchases !😅
For the 144hz refresh rate, you are using the Thunderbolt 4 port which might be the reason why.
Is the 14 in MBP M1 10/16/16 1 TB still a great machine?

Would you support this for someone who's starting out with iOS dev? @andresvidoza

Andres 8GB is enough for coding? I have a MB Air M1 with 16GB of memories, can i get by with 8GB in the Mini?
I want to go for mac mini m2[16GB, 256SSD] variant. Can I use it for AI/ML programming and web browsing primarily.

I can’t be the only one that always has 20 apps open? 😅
oh no hunny 😂
I’m jealous of that Notion tote.
Thx for the review❤ would like to know how the m2 pro MBP handles development vs the m1 13 MBP

what docking station are you using?
I notice that refresh rate tries to match your monitor's hertz.
So if you have more gigs of ram is that good for react native?
What camera is that you have on the monitor bro?
Is 8gb enough for running xcode on these minis ?
I bought the M2 Mac Mini with 16GB and 1TB SSD. Should be a great family desktop for several years at least!
