    Gratulation! Alles Gute Dir weiterhin.

    Ive never been to New York and really enjoyed seeing your video. It makes me nervous to see the big city and big crowds. I loved watching you shop and wishing you the best run. Can't wait to see more.

    The hotel - a nice upgrade from "La Quinta" where you stayed for the NYC Half!!!!

    Bill - Or Old Man Bill - I am just now starting to watch this video - but I will tell you right now that I'm sad that you missed the BEST day of the pre-NYC Marathon events, which was Friday. Friday mid-day was an hour-long panel discussion moderated by Olympic medalist Deena Kastor (she is also a former winner of the London Marathon) - and the panel was the Race Directors for all six of the World Marathon Majors -- ALL of them, in town from Tokyo, London, Berlin, Chicago, and Boston, as well as our own dear Ted Metellus, Race Director of the NYC Marathon. So exciting to hear from all six of these World Marathon Majors Race Directors about their own marathons and how they collaborate with each other. Then Friday evening was the Olympic-style Opening Ceremony with athletes parading from the Finish Line carrying their nation's flags -- covered "live" by the local ABC station (but I was there in person), and then "live" fireworks at the end. [Friday afternoon was also the reception at Tavern on the Green for those of us who have finished the NYC Marathon 15 times or more. Great fun. Guest speaker this year, British runner Steve Jones, former world record holder in the marathon in the 1980's. Previous guest speakers - Bill Rodgers, Frank Shorter, Amby Burfoot. I'm a slow runner, but I just love this sport and these expo's and events!]

      I do wish I had stayed in New York longer so I could attend those events. Just wasn't possible financially with the high hotel prices.

      @@oldmanvanrunning I do understand how high hotel prices could make it unwise to stay extra nights in NYC. Too bad, though. They had some fun events. I loved loved loved seeing and listening to all six Race Directors for the World Marathon Majors. So exciting.

    Next time you're in Grand Central Terminal, please please please go into the main room and look up at the ceiling with the constellation and twinkling lights representing stars and planets. Very cool.

    Hi - I just re-started watching this after taking a break to watch the news, after the comments I sent you earlier from watching the beginning. I enjoy the expo so much, so thank you for filming it! I was thrilled that you showed Coach Steve reading that article about former winner John Kagwe - I printed that out on Thursday and gave it to Steve because he always says in his talks, "Nothing new on race day" but when I mentioned John Kagwe, he did not know the story (I am old - that was before Coach Steve's time). So thanks for letting me see Coach Steve read part of the article I gave to him!! You also let me re-live the fun of the expo. I am so glad that New York Road Runners is now allowing competing shoe companies to have an expo booth - for a few years after NYRR signed the sponsorship contract with New Balance, no other shoe companies were at the expo. I like the variety.

      You're very welcome, Cathy! That's cool that Coach Steve got that story from you! Really enjoyed their presentation 👌

      @@oldmanvanrunning Bill, thank you for acknowledging my note about Coach Steve using the story I gave him in his presentation. I was very pleased! The point of the story is sad, however, that an elite runner ignored the standard advice "nothing new on race day' and missed a course record and the course bonus $$$$ simply by being slowed by wearing brand-new, untried shoes. I think the bonus was $50,000 in those days. Can you imagine losing $50,000 just for wearing the wrong shoes????

    How and why can you get a _"Finisher"_ shirt before the race?

    • @cathynewyork7918
      @cathynewyork7918 Před 10 měsíci

      "Hawaiifranke" - I agree with you - I don't like it that New York Road Runners sells finisher gear before the race, when they don't even know if a runner will finish the race or not. It's just looking for money, but not sportsmanship for an honest finish.

    • @oldmanvanrunning
      @oldmanvanrunning  Před 10 měsíci +1

      I agree that Finishers gear shouldn't be available until after the race. That being said, I would never wear it until I actually finish...I went ahead and ordered the Finishers Jacket early to ensure it wasn't sold out, so happy I did in this case.

    • @cathynewyork7918
      @cathynewyork7918 Před 10 měsíci

      @@oldmanvanrunning Bill, I am happy you have the same old-fashioned ethic that I have, to not wear finisher's gear until after you actually finish. I don't even wear the race shirt until after the race - some people wear the race shirt IN the race, but I don't wear it until I have finished the race. "Old-school."
