- Opening in 1912, this small beachside amusement park is home to the second oldest operating roller coaster in the world, The Great Scenic Railway! The ride wraps around the entire park, and features a brakeman who rides aboard the train, controlling its speed around the course!

I have a sister who lives in Melbourne, so I've been lucky enough to have visited and have gone to Luna Park. Your review is spot on. It's more like a little permanent carnival than a proper amusement park. I liken it to the Santa Monica Pier here in LA. More charming to look at with that amazing entrance and The Great Scenic Railway wrapping around the park than it is to actually ride the rides. And yes, Melbourne does deserve something on a grander scale since locals have to travel a great distance to experience true thrill rides. But as a cultural artifact, Luna Park is charming and is situated in a sweet part of town surrounded by that beachy vibe with all of those casual food options.
I did prefer Luna Park Melbourne over Sydney for it's charm but I do think we need a proper theme park here. Gumbuya world is doing great things and hopefully they continue to do so! I really hope, one day someone gets a super thrilling ride, such as an Intamin LSM or RMC raptor...
Always loved the Luna Park entrance. The guy on a roller coaster who's screaming, with his hair sticking up. You enter through his screaming mouth hahah. Good stuff.
Luna park is fun for what it is. I have a lot of fond memories there. You're right though, Melbourne definitely needs a bigger park. Keep in mind that Gumbuya is only 5 years old, so it's very much still in it's infancy. In it's current state I'd say it's sort of like a mini Dreamworld. It has good potential.
That is a cute park. U guys have the best channel. Keep up the great content. Not many roller coaster Channels I like but yours is awesome. Also Can u and Sarah do a top 25 roast battle.
I grew up going to Luna Park Melbourne, and there have been many ride changes over time, and they've held some amazing rides here that currently aren't there like a 'Pirates Revenge' log flume with great theming behind the enterprise as well as quite a few other rides I could name..
My parents started taking us there in the mid 70's. Back then it was primarily static, purpose built attractions such as the River Caves, The Rotor, The Giggle Palace, The Big Dipper as well as the few that remain now. Unfortunately now it looks like a park full of rides you can find at any state fair or seaside carnival which is a shame. The best thing about it's age is the experiences my grand parents had were different to my parents and in turn were different to ours as kids. At least l got a taste of the good old days.
River Caves was renamed to The Tunnel of Love before that burnt down also The Giggle Palace sadly also was burnt out.
That’s accurate. Sadly it’s lost its appeal largely
Would you count the scenic railway as a credit since you rode it although it valleyed mid ride? Not sure i you rode it other times.
We rode it again later and got the full experience!
Yes I've been there
Ya right about Melbourne needing a better park.
One of the reasons I moved from Melbourne to Brisbane earlier this year was so I could be closer to the Gold Coast theme parks.
Gumbuya World has potential to be a great Park one day. But it's quite expensive, it's at least an hour or more to get to depending where in Melbourne you live and it hasn't got enough things to do for the price if the water park section isn't open.
There are rumours I heard but. That the Melbourne water park Funfeilds is getting a coaster or 2 to complete with Gumbuya World sometime in the next year or 6 would be great for Melbourne's amusement industry.
What have people been saying about fun fields potentially getting a coaster. That was my home park as a kid so I have major soft spot for it even tho I don’t live close anymore. One a side note, I believe gumbuya world’s entrance fee is significantly cheaper when the waterpark is closed about $40 compared to the $70 over the summer!
@themeparksbynatti so I went to T.N.T/Project Zero launch day late last year and rode them with someone who works in the management side of things for funfields, and he over shared and said they were planning on building Coasters at fun fields to compete with Gumbuya. Like I said, it's a rumour.
And the price is a little steep. To compare to say Aussie World on the Sunshine Coast, which has a lot more attractions, is $46 and and you could spend a lot of your day there. If the water park is closed at Gumbuya. You could walk through the animal area in less than an hour and get all 3 Coasters credits done in 15 to 20 minutes. That's not much for your $. Also the Gumbuya World season pass is $200. Which only gets you into Gumbuya. Compared to say the Dreamworld/White Water World pass which also gets you into the both parks, night market and some other attractions is $150. Or the village roadshow one pass is $220 which gets you into 4 parks!
@@TallisYourName didn’t think about the season passes. The Gold Coast parks are definitely better value in terms of local visitors, I’ve seen dreamworld season tickets going for less than $100 at times! It’s great to hear that about funfields though, that park is quite nice and I’ve always thought a coaster along their hillside would be great!
@themeparksbynatti agreed. Fun fields is. Well fun haha it'd be great to see them and Gumbuya have a mini Coaster war. It'd good for Melbourne.
It'd be fantastic if that's true. Funfeilds is an awsome little park. A lot of people look past it because they have no coasters.
Luna Park use to be a lot better back in the 70's and 80's. They did have another roller coaster back then called the Big dipper, along side that they also had another dark ride which was a river boats ride called Tunnel of Love. They also had the Giggle Palace which was above the entrance of the park which you walked around in. Oh and I can't forget the Rotor.....
All of us oldies loved the park back then but they've removed some of the best rides from the park over the years, I do admit they had to with 2 of them due to fire but the dipper should never have been removed. It was a faster and more thrilling coaster than the Scenic Railway hands down.
Damn forgot The Whip which was under the Dodgem Cars, The Ghost Train which was called The Tunnel of Terror and there was another ride that I can't remember the name of but yeah I was young back then lol.
Scenic Railway looks a lot slower and less intense than Rutschebanen but its more scenic and historic.
Could you go to Särkanniemi theme park in Tampere Finland for coastin thru europe season 2? really underrated park and i love it
Did you go to Luna Dark? If so the Engagement band was soo good
Freya the brakewoman! BTW what the heck was that lady in the orange doing in the front seat? Looks like she was oiling the track of some sort, and then got standup airtime.
Scenic railway did 2 trains when I was there
New video idea: y’all can create your perfect amusement park of the subjectively best roller coasters from your favorite types.
(7:03), actually, you’re wrong. It isn’t primarily a zoo. It’s primarily a water park in the summer.

Like the one by mn nl2 converter, would be sick
@@BadCarDesigner like mine lol
I’ve been there 3 times
Its a shame there is only 1 train on Scenic Railway but it makes sense because the train is controlled by brakeman. But doesn't Rutschebanen have more than 1 train?
How can you prefer a mediocre roller coaster to a beautiful classic ghost train like that? Great video though ❤
I agree with this review but when your aid the gumbuya world is primarily a zoo i wuld disagree. Yes half the park is a zoo but when it comes to the crowd most if not all are normally at the water park or using the rides. When it comes to winder the zoo may be popular but when i go and visit normal i try to avoid it and have a thrilling time.
Its something I've done once just to tick it off but probably won't go there again
The place has been limping along for decades. The owners don’t get it. It’s really disappointing these days. They build function centres and neglect the rides and atmosphere
I’m going here on Thursday 28th of September 2023
