Dear Conversation Capital, this Gentleman is the most Intelligent guy I have listened to from SA, his deep analysis and perspectives and his understanding of Geo-Politics and how it impacts not only SA but the whole SADCC and Africa is reassuring that with young leaders like him we have a great future. I think if SADCC had another 8 young leaders who think like him SADCC would soar to such heights never seen before.

What a powerful conversation. Cant wait to read that book. I'm one of the people wondering what my contribution to the country could be after experiencing expat life. We are living in unprecedented times and its quite honestly scary to think that the baton is literally in our millennial hands😅 I'm so unserious... like me, change country's trajectory awoa.
On a serious note though, I am educated and my take home from this we need to unlearn reliance on government for radical transformational solutions.

Hi Ursula, look I like your episodes and keep up as much as possible. I'm not trying to tell you what to do with your channel but I was wondering if you could get someone from the 2000s and ask them what they think about the problems plaguing our country. There is a gap in interests and education between people born before 2000 and afterwards. For instance we grew up with social media and a sterilised version of history in our country and so therefore we do not have a clear lens of the reality we are living in.

I looooove this. I looove effective journalism. I looove patriotism. I loooove being exposed to more reasons to not leave our country. It's so easy to want to get my money right and leave the country because "oh boohooo everything is failing." But I swear, man, I reeeaaalllyyy KNOW - not believe - that there's sooo much that each of us can do to contribute to the stabilizing and beautifying and thriving of our nation. I think so many of our young people want to participate in the growth. Behind the distractions and the partying and being hung up on the things that seem to numb us, most of us yearn to contribute to the solidification of our country. Lol. I'm writing all this because I'm filled with passion right now, and I'm only 27 minutes into this conversation😂. Mxm.❤❤❤❤❤❤

U.S. person here - I resonate strongly with the anger that our grandparents are still running the country. I'm angry that the US hasn't responded to climate change seriously as it really is a problem the US created, both with it's own industrialization but also in the global hegemony of finance, trade and energy. The reason climate change is a global problem is because we (the US) made the global order as it exists today.
It's interesting that the arguments Zimasa is making about the availability of fossil fules echo communities in middle America. The fossil fuel producing states, when they push back against attempts to limit new fossil fuel production, say "we need to be energy independent," "we have historically used coal", "should we sacrifice our industrial and energy development just because someone else is claiming there is a problem."
For clarity, as an outsider, I am not saying that Zimasa's comments are invalid when it comes to South Africa or the region generally - only a fool would say they are equivalent given the histories of exploitation. Still it's striking how similar the sentiment is.

I cannot agree more with the brother. Yes a macro economic view is important however we need to interrogate the political economic intersect too, this bothers me more unless macro economics includes its political economic dimension too. An African regional approach is an absolute because we have and are building greater solidarity amongst our nations. We cannot go this alone simply because we compete with regional blocks such as the EU, the UK and the US the so called west.
Continue brother we need to make this widely known it resonates with quite a lot of other voices.

Eskom was topped up and maintained the info is freely available where they show the timeline of Eskom on average they introduced new power station every 5 years. Eskom output capacity in 1990 was enough to run everthing today they were around 40k MW but our new government did not introduced any new power station until they were forced in 2008 even though Eskom warned government in 1996 to increase the capacity.

Good video, I found it awkward from time to time though , I also would have liked to see more pointed questions from the interviewer to keep the conversation more coherent and followable.
My assessment mhlambi is incorrect however I think if you didn't nod in agreement or uthi "mh , mh"😂 as the the interviewee speaks for most of the time it would make it very much less uncomfortable to disagree with parts of what he is saying, when the nods stop it becomes superficially climatic and makes it uncomfortable to watch ngoba it seems like you are agreeing wholesale without being fully convinced which may not even be the case but comes off that way, I may be wrong.
As a 21 year old🇿🇦 just beginning to be politically aware it's interesting seeing these conversations 💯👍
