This is actually Laos but Vietnam has many hill tribes as well.
I think I've been here. We did a 3 day hike, first night was horrible. We slept in a village house with an old man. As soon as the lights went out the room got overrun by rats. We could hear them fighting and squealing all night right next to us. I didn't sleep all night. The village in this video had a designated shack built for hikers. At night a bunch of young village men came to visit us and they went through our stuff and examined our stuff. I'm not sure if they were curious or they were looking for something.
Thanks for sharing your experience. I had a completely different experience but possibly on the same plan as you. First night we stayed in a village and our host was the chief so we stayed in his house. We found out later he lit up his pipe in the middle of the night, that was about it. Second night in this village stayed with another host family. Again thanks for sharing!

This was shot in 2014 outside of Phongsali in the extreme north, about 50 miles from the Chinese border.

Now this village may be not the same as last 7 years ago I think. These Akha people are the same poor in our country Myanmar's Akha people.
Yes I’m not sure if it’s still there. Some Akha were asked to move their villages because of the dam they were building there at the time.

Very cool! I would love to head up to Phongsali and trek to an Akha village when I finally get to visit Laos someday. The only Akha village I've visited was outside of Chiang Rai and right off of a paved road. More interesting than Akha vendor girl encounters on the streets of Chiang Mai or (especially) Khaosan Road, but far too touristy. I can't remember if 'Oo-du toh mah' is thank you in the Akha language or not, but thanks for posting!
el2995 ,if im guessing right ,ure indian.you need not go to laos to meet the akha tribe.you can go to arunachal pradesh and visit the akha tribe there.even thogh they are separated by international boundaries they still have preserved the same culture.
I'm not Indian, I'm Canadian. I would like to see the Akha in India though, it sounds interesting.
