Hey Tom, Do you ever just stop and think about the fact that nearly 100,000 people have pledged to be your digital friends? Although you are a great guitar player, I don't think that's why we all subscribe. I think we all wish we had a guitar playing friend that would invite us over to sit in their kitchen and talk about our mutual compulsion to play guitar. No BS, no sales pitch, just a friend talking about something we all love. Thank you for all these videos. I visit your kitchen every chance I get.

I remember when Tom started his channel during the lockdowns of covid, I was looking through you tube and saw this guy looking a little depressed due to covid out in his garage with a guitar, clicked on it and thought, who the hell is this guy....But I knew there was something different about Tom compared to the overly produced video's, then I started learning who Tom Bukovac is and his incredible contribution to the music world. Tom has created a community of really good hearted people and generally you discover there's a lot of us out there who have the same thoughts/idea's.....Great Job Tom on what you have created, you have made a legacy to be Very proud of....

Flames were licking out the service window and fingering their way towards the high stamped tin ceiling. I could see frantic movement in the kitchen but out in the dining room no one seemed to notice. A vaguely familiar skeleton at the bar in Vietnam era Class A's hoists a bottle of HiLife and nods in my direction while the jukebox careens into a double time version of Danke Schoen.

vanessa?? vanessa??...i kept hearing someone call....who the hell is vanessa? i calmly picked up my scotch and water and moved like a sloth towards the nearest exit sign. my heart was racing but i knew instinctively that if i showed any sign of fear whatsoever that NO ONE was getting out of here alive.
even though i had walked down this hallway hundreds of times before, this was the first time i ever noticed how hideous the carpet was....a testament to decades of badly cleaned up vomit and wine spills.
as i got closer to the stairwell i could still faintly hear that drunk asshole yelling his wife's name. he seemed so worried about her, even though she probably slept with every one of his friends at the company christmas parties.

I’ve found that those folks who question or criticize why some people prefer vintage guitars either have had little to no experience with them, or are envious and unable to purchase them themselves. Yes, tone is in the hands but there’s something going on with many of those old 50’s/60’s guitars that just doesn’t happen that often with the mass of guitars being produced today. If you want that extra 1% and can afford it, go for it! If that 1% doesn’t matter that much or you can’t afford it, buy and enjoy the best guitars you can. Life is short. Have fun!

Remotes! I'll tell you about remotes. In 70's Australia I lived in a big city, but it had only two TV stations. Colour TV only came in 1975. My father bought a Healing immediately for exactly for $1000. He could've bought a nice used car. Still two stations and no remote. And I was still using the red public telephone box across the road with the stinky black Bakelite phone covered in girl germs. Dad then got a massive antenna put on the roof so we could get the three Sydney stations. Still no remote. One night on Nighmoves I discovered Hendrix when they played his Monterey gig which remains my most thrilling music moment. We moved house in 1980. No remote until the mid 80's.

Here's a real shocker for all the anti-Autotune/ pitch correction folks. They figured out how to "bump" the tape as early as the 1950s. It was large sections, but they could make a line go sharp or flat by bumping the tape. They did this until around 1975, when the Eventide harmonizer came out, and they would run the vocals through that and move the pitch of the vocals. Studio tricks have been around forever. I hate when people start yelling and typing the word "Autotune" when they really know nothing about what it is or actually does. Rant over. Thanks for the videos as always Tom! ❤

Hey Tom, back in the mid 70's there were TVs with remote controllers. My uncle worked in a TV shop and had one. It would operate little motors in the TV that would mechanically change the volume and channel knobs. On channel 4? Push the button and whirrr... clunk, and now it's on channel 5. It blew my little 10 year old mind.

Yeah, remote control TVs go back to the '50s, like the Zenith Space Command sets that worked via ultrasonic tones; the remote was just a box with tuning forks and strikers inside of it (jingling keys and clinking silverware would also remotely operate these sets LOL).

90% of guitar players you hear on the radio that would be considered great to most people don't know a quarter of what this guy knows! But he's a humble guy!

Hey that riff at 6:20 triggered something in my brain from the murky past. It was a pop song on heavy rotation, briefly, when I was a kid. I had to find it. Edison Lighthouse 'Love Grows'. You're right about its iconic potential. I haven't heard that song in fifty years and what I remember is the riff.

the gear analogy reminds me of a conversation in high school. I was complaining my gear was cheap and sounded like crap. My friend said, "do you really think it's the gear? Nothing to do with you?" And then in a moment of humility I admitted, "I'm sure if Steve Morse had this setup, he would still totally shred."

I was the TV remote control when I was a kid. My mom would tell me to bring her the TV Guide, turn the TV on, change the channel, adjust the volume, move the antennae, shut it off. Them were the days.

I agree that most of the tone comes from one's fingers... but you forget to mention that in addition to adding %1, the way it FEELS inspires the player to play so much better and make different choices in the moment creating a positive feedback loop ... oh snap... you did just point that out :)!!! Rock on, Uncle Larry!

It’s true about tone being in the hands, but here’s the thing that speaks to the gear. Most great players played through different gear with varying results. Townsend SG/Hiwatt, Clapton Les Paul Marshall. I’ve seen great players and thought. I liked when that dude played a different gear.

Uncle Larry, absolutely love Homeskoolin’ , your picking , and your commentary on all things guitar. I’m An old fart here weighing in on pitch correction/auto tune. Not a bad thing really. The Grateful Dead could have greatly benefited from the technology on live shows. I don’t think they were ever on the note. But I still love ‘em.

I play and sing "Dear Mr. Fantasy" at jams. It's interesting hearing that song played on a Danelectro, and in that tuning. Nicely different.

My parents gave me a spankin' new 74 hardtail strat on my 12th birthday. Middle pickup quit so I put in a loaded pickguard with VanZant pickups in it sometime in the 90's. Love the Van Zant pickups. I know.... 70s strats are supposed to suck, but I still love mine.

Balls on accurate about tone being created by the player's hands. BB King is a perfect example. No one got more out of one note.

I had (maybe still have?) a Wayne Newton guitar pick. I tuned his guitar many years ago (I think its was an Ovation?) at private date he was playing, and I was the rental backline tech. His PM gave me the pick as a way of saying thanks. I'll have to look for it now.

Tweed Deluxe is my regular gigging amp. I usually play it on 3 with the Normal channel at zero. For larger rooms, try playing it on 6 but move the Normal channel up to say 8-10. The Normal channel seems to help the headroom issue and fizziness.

Speaking of funky necks uncle Larry, isn't that Dano neck a trip? Flat as a butter board but fun to play. What a great sound my friend, round and snappy, love it. Although 99% is from your fingers. Awesome take on a Traffic classic.

Hey Tom: Re: cell phones at concerts.. Just watched an interview with Tony Levin and he said when he was playing in Tokyo with Peter Gabriel, there were no photos or videos allowed... until the last song of the encore. Levin said when that song began, and the audience got the ok, the entire arena was nothing but phones aimed at them. Good idea!
