I always knew that border collie's are really smart but now that I have a 10 week old border collie, I'm constantly being blown away by how smart she is. There are things around the house that she's figured out in such a short amount of time without us every telling her about it. Amazing dogs!
On behalf of border collies and border collie fans everywhere, THANK YOU for giving your dog plenty of mental stimulation. She's a wonderful dog and you have done a great job working with her! Star is a star :)
I have a border collie husky mix 15 year old, going on 16 in May. She still has an incredible amount of energy. Very smart, and very gentle with children. The kids try to play fetch with her, but in turn she makes them run in circles.
I can't wait until I have a dog like this - one who is so well-trained, he/she will walk alongside me as a companion, not just as something to drag on a leash and keep in a pen.
When I was younger, we got a border collie. It was the best pet we've ever had, smart, compassionate, caring, disciplined and great fun to be with. It was a genuine family member all its life.
Thank you for posting this video. I lost my border collie, Buddy, this past summer to cancer. He was smart and loyal and my best friend. I miss him terribly. God bless you and that wee pup.
Mom would lay a sheet on the grass outside w/ my 3 yr old sis outside to play with our collie watching her. It worked until the postman patted my sister on the head, she cried and the postman got bitten. One day, dad came home and the wooden screen door was smashed. He asked my mom what happened, she said she was giving one of my siblings a swat on the butt and the collie came busting right in and stood in between her and the sibling not letting her touch anyone! Thanks, Lassie. I love you.
I knew border collies easily trained to understand commands consisted of one or two words, but this dog is so young and already understands her owner's every word!!! this is amazing!!!
My border collie of 15 years died last month. I miss him more than I ever thought I would miss a dog. Other than having to lock him up when children were running around (just couldn't contain that herding instinct) he was an unbelievable companion and part of the family.
That is just too cute. I love how she gets the newspaper and helps around the house. You've done a great job with her at such an early age. Border collies are amazing dogs, I have 2 of them just for that reason. They're almost 8 years old now though. They don't help around the house like yours, but they don't make messes either (haha)
I have a border collie that is 13 years old. She is healthy and showing no signs of letting up. They are so smart. The funny thing is she is so scared of flies, when one gets into the house, she runs and hides till we get rid of it.Hahaha. And we can,t watch the weather, if the weather man says storms coming, she gets scared.
This video does not surprise me at all. These dogs are the smartest breed. My, Peggy Sue, has always learned things so quickly and with ease......Great video.
my dog is half border collie and he knows a lot of words and can distinguish between his toys too. If I had really trained him, I can only imagine what he could do!! He's such a wonderful boy.
Having a dog like that in your life, is better than winning the lottery. Unless you've had a dog like that...you just don't know what I'm talking about. It's one of the greatest joys God gives. There is an old Indian saying that when God created the world, he created a chasm between the animals and man...but as the chasm got larger, the dog, jumped over it to stand beside the man. That is why such a bond exists with our dogs.
i admire you and your pup, just two weeks ago i purchased a border collie, they are my favorite breed! i have taught her sit, shake, hi-5, lay down, roll over, roll over the other way, back up, spin around and go to bed and shes only 10 weeks :)
Aww, very sweet and smart pup. 3:45 reminds me of my GSD because he either drags his water dish across the kitchen floor to remind us that it's empty or he tips the bucket over outside when it has leaves in it. lol
What a beautiful border collie pup :-) hope you have many ,many, happy, and healthy long years together...Sadly we lost our wonderful B.C. in 2005 at 17yrs old,she was a delight to have...as was our labrador @ 15 yrs, and now we have our beautiful TM girl Meesha :-) "Have fun"
ok now I know that border collies are the smartest dog in the cacine world but its still soooooo much fun to watch them and train them, btw where ever you live its beautiful ...to see wildlife roam that close to the house with dogs in the yard is just phenomanol
Borders are some smart ass dogs thats all I gotta say...we used to have a sheltie but she passed away (she was the smartest dog, even one a talent show) now we are going to get a border collie! can't wait!
i love border collies. ive had my 2 since pups and couldnt have asked for better dogs. really intelligent and can do some amazing tricks if you have the patients to train them. but they do catch on real quick
I read that dogs learn the fastest when they are something like less than four months old, which makes sense. And that little pupface is a good example.
People often say border collies are the smartest dogs. This may be true but what I think is the real key is that border collies take actual pleasure in successfully doing something. Half the time I don't need to give mine a treat, praise is enough.
Wow she is just beautiful. And the most smartest Brder collie i have ever seen. I think her best trick is the crate, i loved that one(: Border collies are with out a doubt the most intelligent dogs yet.
One of my dogs is a border collie/lab mix and I find that he has a big vocabulary also. He learns things really quickly too. Border collies are definitely a great breed!
Border Collies are the smartest breed in the world. I have a Sable and White (a rescue at 5.5 months), like Lassie, and I was just consistent with what I wanted him to learn and he picked up right away. The neighbors are always commenting on how he minds me. I think it's just being consistent with what you tell them because they just understand.
I have a Border Collie too they are so cute, smart and intelligent, the father of mine was in some TV show as the sheep dog, she is obsesed with tennis balls, she will go searching for it if you ask it where it is they learn so quickly, you can teach them anything.
this vid says it all: as long as u give what ur border collie needs, wich is a big property, love and discipline, they're amazing to train. I was nine when i got mine and she pretty much trained herself, I didn't have to do much. I'ver never had such a connexion with a dog. She's so human at the same time... Hard to explain but good border collie owners would understand what I'm trying to say... lol
Honestly, I bet she didn't have to struggle much. Border Collies are the SMARTEST dogs in the world. I have one. He is 9 weeks. I've had him for 2 weeks and already tought him to crate, sit, down, and he's potty trained.
I have a dog that is only part collie but still a pretty smart little dog. The more they learn and work the better behaved they are. Leave a collie to his own design without training and they are smart enough to get themselves into a lot of trouble.
We got our first border collie about 3 years ago and we love her. We had a husky/lab and a collie/lab before her so we were prepared for the energy... unfortunately we didn't take the time to train her for tricks and actions like you did. Fortunately at 2 and 3 she was still responsive to learning new things. Definately a great dog, yours is quite cute
Border collies are so intelligent. I used to go to our county fair's dog shows and was always amazed at how attentive and obedient the border collies were. My Heinz 57 dog, also named Starr, had a little border collie in her from her markings and large vocabulary understanding but the words she knew best were "pizza", "french fry", "incoming!" (compliments of my brother's "torture" that she loved) and "skootch pooch" when she took up too much of the bed. Maybe we did something wrong. LOL
Have you ever considered enrolling her in some search and rescue training classes? Such a smart dog could really be helpful in emergency situations. You may have a future doggy hero on your hands!

LOL... our border collies used to dig in their water too. We figured that the good water must be at the bottom of the bowl.
Mine did too but that's a funny way to look at it!

You do realise that dogs trained this well either cost a fortune or aren't for sale at all.
Max Woudenberg Crazy talk.....
Max Woudenberg It's pretty clear that the OP wants to train it him/herself
Please don't forget that the BC needs to run every day at least 5-10 miles.
When I was younger, we got a border collie. It was the best pet we've ever had, smart, compassionate, caring, disciplined and great fun to be with. It was a genuine family member all its life.

We've had our puppy not even two days and he already knows his name, sits and goes the bathroom outside. They're just so smart, i love it.
So much time for these endearing, intelligent dogs.
Sitting here with my 14 year old Border Collie watching this young pup. No way I'd want any other breed of dog!!
I have a border collie that is 13 years old. She is healthy and showing no signs of letting up. They are so smart. The funny thing is she is so scared of flies, when one gets into the house, she runs and hides till we get rid of it.Hahaha. this is probably the smartest and well trained BC puppy i have ever seen!
I just bought this dog yesterday! She's so smart, and in a matter of two hours, the pup knew her name (the given name we gave her). I'm so happy !:D
Star is really gorgeous when I was young I had a border collie named fly loved her to bits. They are so intelligent xxx
This video does not surprise me at all. These dogs are the smartest breed. My, Peggy Sue, has always learned things so quickly and with ease......Great video.
The puppy's little bark at the beginning may have been the cutest thing ever witnessed
I had a border collie growing up and she could distinguish her toys too, they are such intelligent dogs!!
intelligent dog + a good knowledgeable owner = this
.
amazing, you both are.
my dog is half border collie and he knows a lot of words and can distinguish between his toys too. If I had really trained him, I can only imagine what he could do!! He's such a wonderful boy.
These dogs really are smart. Our Border Collie Princess used to help me with my algebra homework in high school.
She's absolutely beautiful - and so helpful round the house!
Not only she's smart but she's also very beautiful and cute. You've done a good job training her. Thanks for sharing the video.
border collies are so cute
Wow. So smart. Was thinking of getting one at 6 months old but I dont want to miss all that interaction with a puppy.
border collies are absolutely BEAUTIFUL
Needed this to break the monotony during this Pandemic so Tks for t video! LOVE him!!! ♥️

She listens better than a child. :D Border collies are so pretty. I love dogs!
She is gorgeous and she does what my collie does with the water bowl he loves to empty the water everywhere and then goes surfing on the bowl x
border collies are the BEST, and it's great you're teaching her these things while she is still young.
Lovely little girl..she loves her retrieving, bless. She's grown up into a very good looking lady. Lucky you :)
such an inteligent animal, she looked at the newspaper, then looked at you waiting for you to tell her what to do
I'm not sure what I love more - ur beautiful collie or your sweet accent !
i admire you and your pup, just two weeks ago i purchased a border collie, they are my favorite breed! i have taught her sit, shake, hi-5, lay down, roll over, roll over the other way, back up, spin around and go to bed and shes only 10 weeks :)
If I wasn't so busy with work I'd train my dog all sorts of tricks like that.
Aww, very sweet and smart pup.
3:45 reminds me of my GSD because he either drags his water dish across the kitchen floor to remind us that it's empty or he tips the bucket over outside when it has leaves in it. lol
That may very well be the cutest Dog I have ever seen.
Top ranked smartest dog.
Unimaginable how much i love them.
I already want a Border Collie. This just makes me want one even more! I wish my puppy was that calm about training lol.
She's beautiful and very clever, we have a border collie, you can literally see the intelligence in their eyes.
"Yeah, everybody thinks you are nuts"
True...but we also think you are smart and adorable!! :)
Holy crap! That's amazing. I have no idea how you would even go about training your dog to do half that stuff, but that is an intelligent dog.
A star in the Making...Border Collies are just so handsome and smart
That could possibly be the cutest dog I've ever seen
ok now I know that border collies are the smartest dog in the cacine world but its still soooooo much fun to watch them and train them, btw where ever you live its beautiful ...to see wildlife roam that close to the house with dogs in the yard is just phenomanol

I love my border babies. They can be trained quite easily.
What a smart girl! And beautiful!
I'm so jealous,, Border Collies are unbelievably cute.
i love border collies. ive had my 2 since pups and couldnt have asked for better dogs. really intelligent and can do some amazing tricks if you have the patients to train them. but they do catch on real quick
aww she is so cute & very intelligent, I can't believe you trained her to do that at 3 1/2 months old!
Love this video. How cute, and what a perfect example of how smart Border Collies are. I have a 12+ year old
Gorgeous border collie, and very intelligent! I should have spent more time training mine while she was still a pup
I read that dogs learn the fastest when they are something like less than four months old, which makes sense. And that little pupface is a good example.
Ah, so sweet and smart, what a STAR!! We had a border collie named "Jasper" and he was just the best!
People often say border collies are the smartest dogs. This may be true but what I think is the real key is that border collies take actual pleasure in successfully doing something. Half the time I don't need to give mine a treat, praise is enough.
I know, right?? They totally spoil you with how smart and sensitive they are.. although I have to say Australian shepherds are a close second.
That is so adorable. Nicely done with the training -- I've heard border collies are smart, but dang that was incredible.
Wow she is just beautiful. And the most smartest Brder collie i have ever seen. I think her best trick is the crate, i loved that one(:

How precious! I was looking up dogs that I wanted to get and border collies were the smartest dogs out there
When she was bringing back that newspaper... Cuteness overload! I can't take it... ):
if you look closely when she goes to get the news paper she checks to see if any cars are coming, cute
I have a Border Collie too they are so cute, smart and intelligent, the father of mine was in some TV show as the sheep dog, she is obsesed with tennis balls, she will go searching for it if you ask it where it is they learn so quickly, you can teach them anything.
What a great pup. I bet she plays frisbee catch like mad.

3:50 is hilarious. Poor Violet's trying to get a drink but the puppy is splashing all her water around. LOL.
You are a very caring and disciplined trainer...she is better off with your training💖
Wow.. this is so awesome! I can't even believe how smart your dog is. I can't wait to get one!
I have 7 months old bordercollie. Its so clever and funny. Bordercollie is my favourite breed !
Star is so cute
i love border collies! Their intelligence never ceases to amaze me and this just exemplifies why they are known as the smartest breed out of all dogs.
I LOVE YOU ALL!!! lol He/she's so smart !!!

Most adorable kinda dog in my opignon!
Your dog is a pleasure to watch. You should write a dog training book, amazing work!!
Have you ever considered enrolling her in some search and rescue training classes? Such a smart dog could really be helpful in emergency situations. You may have a future doggy hero on your hands!
I like you. This is what i do. Sit and talk with my dog all day. My neighbors think i am crazy:)
Beauty and brains... and a great trainer, too!
