  • The Story of Charlie Rich - Unofficial Fan Movie (Part 1: The Early Years)
    Genre: Documentary
    Year: 2019
    Director: Tim Zhidkov
In 1995, one of the most underrated and the great musicians died - his name was Charlie Rich. Since then, there hasn't been released a full-length documentary/bio movie about him and his life. I think it's just unfair, so I decided to make something like an "unofficial" fan movie about Charlie Rich.
This video/film will be contains: interviews (archive footages and records), rare photos, music and some fragments from other documentary movies. All information and sources that I used for this movie will be listed in the credits.
    Thank You!
    Tim

I remember as a kid seeing him playing the piano. He looked like an old man but sang like a young man. He was a bit of an enigma in that. I knew the words to the most beautiful girl because it played so much.

Thank you for this beautiful work, my grandfather was a huge fan of the silver fox, when i was a kid he'd open up the living room windows put on one of his record and crank it up as loud as it could go, then he'd head out on the porch and just rock away on his chair puffin on his pipe while sipping on a glass of whiskey and proceeded to say word for word "they done this man shady!

In about 1994 or 95 I was living in New Orleans. My roommate was sort of a hero of mine as far as musical tastes go. He knew everything about everything and everything he listened to was great. He threw on "Sittin' and Thinkin'" one day and my jaw hit the floor. I was like "who in God's name is this??" He's like "You never heard of Charlie Rich???" Been a voracious fan ever since. Been to Sun Records. Lived in Memphis for a while. I love Charlie Rich. One of the greatest artists to have ever lived.

Thank you for piecing these two documentaries together. I remember first watching CR when he had his massive hit ‘The Most Beautiful Girl’ U.K. television as a 10 year old. I got into 50’s Rock’n’Roll in the mid seventies and discovered his Sun Records recordings, ‘Whirlwind’ ‘Break Up’ ‘Midnight Blues’ among others. C.R Jazz influenced piano playing caught my attention from his time at RCA .CR’s Smash Records blew me away too, via a US Pickwick Compilation.. ‘ Ain’t Gonna Be That Way’. His Hi Records material.. ‘Pictures & Paintings’ .. awesome performances on that album.

@@CharlieRichArchive Having watched part 1 with lots of pause, rewind, rewatch : I must tell you this ! Its really powerful to hear Sam Phillips describe Charlie Rich as a multidimensional multifaceted talent who had "feel" at the center of gravity to all those facets. And then to hear Johnny Cash echo that by saying " he was the one guy from Sun Records who shouldve made it but didnt ". For me there's also something haunting to hear between spoken words during Charlie's 1992 home studio interview at the piano (part 1). I truly get this feeling hard to describe.... I call it the "hole in the soul" where a person just cant forgive themselves or allow themselves to recieve the good things in life. Even if that's all pish posh, I still believe where ever Charlie is now, he can feel the appreciation and recieve the love that you put into this tribute.

@@daisymoses6812 I feel satisfied when I read this type of comments. It means that my unofficial movie is works and reaches the goal. My goal was to show people how deep, talanted and underrated Charlie was as a musician. Because for the most people Charlie was just a guy with gray hair who sings, "Behind Closed Doors" and "The Most Beautiful Girl". And this movie open a door to small part of Charlie's life where you can see that he was much more than just a guy with two hits in the 70s. Great comment from you, Daisy! I really enjoy to read it. All the Best, Tim

Good job, Charlie has definitely been overlooked a bit in music history, he has some really classic tunes. Fan documentaries are usually better than 'official' ones too since fans go more into detail and don't skip stuff or skip back and forth through various years like official bio's do.
