4:11 Targets have to be determined before an effect enters the stack. So, being the only target, it automatically picked the Hexmage, and fizzled when it was dead. Same reason why you can't put things in your graveyard at the start of your upkeep for Virtue of Persistence, because when the effect goes on the stack it's already too late.
This deck pulls at my heart lol. I want to make a viper/braids deck and am trying to brainstorm a good shell. This one looks good, but I keep leaning toward abzan or golgari since it looks like it can make more fodder easier for the viper or braids
@@TheSBC8 See I've also seen and like that build, minus that rite of oblivion rotated. With that gone, the orzhov version lost it's best premium everything removal and sac outlets.

I tried the orzhov build before I built the version that's similar to yours, but the three steps ahead makes this version so worth going dimir instead. Looking for to more content as a new subscriber

I have them in there because I also keep running into simulacrum synthesizer decks and wanted an answer. You can absolutely do this, I just wanted more consistency with Braids, as she draws cards while giving some good streak of damage. I have found that if you miss snake, deck is a very different beast so Braids was to adress this inconsistency :) But yeah, preacher will be stronger vs aggro decks, and still good against value decks 🔥❤🦥

I killed an opponent in one game by attacking with my viper, then sacrificing my viper with Liliana, and finally reanimating two vipers with Coiling Rebirth. Actually, I have brought back two vipers with Coiling Rebirth several times already, and its always devastating to opponents. Next, imma try to double the blight counters on a viper with Innkeepers Talent in a golgari deck.
Really cool deck! Do you think maybe Hopeless Nightmare is worth adding? When it enters your opponent has to discard, loses life, and then when you sacrifice it you get a free scry 2 on top, it is amazing with Braids and Viper.
It's not bad, and was something I considered, but it isn't a creature - we optimally want card that is a creature+some permanent. Still, case isn't a creature too, but clue helps to keep extra value in deck, or to draw into viper. So yeah, case seems a tiny bit better, but nightmare has damage, so it could be interesting replacement that has solid merit
Hey Sloth, do you think its possible to try an Esper control deck featuring the Viper and some of the strategies in your white + blue/black control decks you showed?
Generally Viper isn't a control card - it's more of finisher for aggro decks, so I don't think it would work well :) We will make some esper though, that's for sure!:)
After a few days of critters, our SLOTH is back where he belongs and I am all for it ;) I beaten a few Vipers, with removal on hand they are not too scary, but the deck looks cool nonetheless.

I honestly would wait, as the meta is still trying to figure itself out - so if you want to craft 1 main deck - it's good to have full information what is best etc. So far, probably the most competitive is this mono red/rakdos aggro that went for 1# Mythic spot, we already know it could achieve highest rank in mythic, and I had some insane winrate with it. That being said, it's pretty boring aggro deck, so it depends on how much you value quick wins over fun ;)
Have you tried a proliferate / ichor gauntlet version of this deck? i tried it and its pretty funny watching three steps ahead make copies then you add more blight counters triggering a massive hit protection spells help trigger ichors proliferate effect too. Cheating it out of the graveyard could be hard with all the graveyard hate, i've been wondering if scavengers talents making a bunch of food could work as a pseudo mill and a way to ramp this ting out since each food sacked is 2 cards milled.
Probably Azorius/Orzhov Control :) But I'm biased - and the probably strongest deck was this Rank 1# Mono red/rakdos. It was insane, with consistent 70% winrate, which is beyond nuts (normal tier 1 aggro has 60-65% winrate usually)

You can craft them with wildcards :) In collection I believe you need to mark "cards that I don't own", then you can see all cards in given format (be sure to choose right one!) and then craft card/search by name :) Feel free to ask in comments, even if I won't see it I'm sure bros will try to help with questions❤🦥
Please don't make an Atraxa domain ramp deck anytime soon. No one expects it in standard and mono red can't handle. I'm having fun in this forgotten standard niche😂
That's interesting :D I would think that Domain has too sketchy mana-base atm, so while Atraxa is great, I wouldn't see it as very strong one atm, especially as binding became super slow without triomes. And when you finally cast her, they can just fling 14 damage around, without even attacking face (which loses chance to lifelink). Might try it at some point, but I think this archetype was pretty butchered by rotation 🤷♂❤🦥
@@SlothMtg I actually rarely get to use Atraxa in the mono red and other aggro matches. The life gain from helix, cornucopia and angel seems to carry me well. Plus the lockdowns and bindings seem to come up on time even with the surveil lands. I just won a couple of standard events with an okay list today (not enough rares for all the lands) 7-0, 6-3, 5-3. And got back to my usual platinum pretty quick. Maybe I'm just lucky with the draw but it hasn't felt difficult to play. Even with 80% of my matches being aggro
He almost never plays them, they are okay man is a bit bad at the moment. I play 5,4,3 mana all the time the trick is to lightly splash the 3rd color preferably without any double mana symbol cards of the splash color.
@@Temurmemer this is the truth. The problem I run into is one consistency, and two the meta is pretty aggressive right now. I hope control can stabilize sooner than later but those are my takes on four and five color decks.
I will make some of them, but they are definitely weaker - atm 2 color decks feel more reasonable overall. You can play 3 colours, but now there is a cost to them, which is honestly good situation (bye atraxa decks) :)
I haven’t lost going up against the viper yet, surprisingly. The most counters it had was 3 then I killed it and used “Breach the multiverse” to bring his viper back onto the field & won that way lololol.
Listen.... listen.... Rottenmouth was the first mythic I crafted a full set of because it feels like once it successfully hits and survives a turn, it's an absolute nightmare. That last match against mono red with green splash didn't have a leg to stand on. I was hoping we'd all catch a break from mono red in the new meta, but that's unfortunately not the case. Viper seems like a good and clean answer towards slowing it down or outright defeating it. I love the deck, and Viper can be utilized in so many shells. i think instead of braids i'd run priest of the schism to counter aggro but other than that this looks like a great dimir deck

Hi Sloth, if you can recommend one deck right now what it would be. I have around 50 common and uncommon, 27 rares and 13 mythic wildcards
If you are f2p I would recommend waiting a little longer and have fun with what you have while the meta stabililzes.

I don't think Akul belong here in any way :) Splashing colour for it isn't worth it - and it has no synergy with the deck really

2 Atraxa and an Etali just sit in the deck hanging around most of the time. I wonder what they do in there 😂
