How to fix "Cannot recognize lens attach it properly" Sony a5100, Sony E-mount lens, 16-55mm.

- A random video this evening, however I have been out of action on making videos because my SOny Emount 16-50mm lens decided to break on me.
"Cannot recognise lens, attach it properly" kepts showing.
This is how I fixed my lens ... some how!

So I had this exact same problem. I had tried air dusting the metal contacts, that didn't fix it. I tried shaking the lens, that didn't fix it. I turned the camera on and noticed that the ring wasn't "in" all the way. I pressed the ring in, turned the camera off, turned it back on and it worked

I really hoped it would help, it popped in, so I cannot even grab it (to slightly pull) anymore. Tried with needles as well, helping from two sides, still no success. It's trying 3 times then it gives up. I see many videos that I should disassemble, but that looks very scary.. If anyone have a "fix on the fix" please share!

You just fixed my lens! I did drop it but it was in soft grass and stopped being recognized, sure enough one side was raised like you said - pressing it down it clicked back into place and now works every time!

So, i have the same high level issue too. Did roughly the same thing. But no one mentions using the controls, either manually or motorized.
After getting it somewhat usable, have there been any successful attempts at that part?
The clicking or resetting part is a start, but is there a starting point where the lens sits (circular position) that it needs to be in? All that pushing, pulling and twisting is doing something.
So it comes down to this, these "fixes " only work in the horizontal movement? Im trying to solve the issue, which includes rotational movements also.
They may be directly connected, but that is where my question " above comes from.
No one ( from just a day's reserch) addresses the main point of usage, just initial functionality.
I have the service manual and will have to fix another failed mechanical engineers design.
Granted, by uncontrollable laws in nature, the failure modes are greater, it just sucks.
That is why my choice was electrical.
Ohh the lack of dvp&r on dfema.
A simply sw script ( with fw updates, if needed) would not only stabilize the realignment realignment, but initialize and configure it also.

The same thing exactly happened to my camera, was off centered one side was higher pushed it down like Drewzilla said and worked perfectly as before. great video... saved time and money

Tinkered with it, used a very thin blade of a knife all around the lens (it was blocked in for me) AND THEN during the first seconds of turning the camera ON, I pressed on the uneven side of the barrel and then it finally started normally.
So happy becaus I actually purchased my A5000 secondhand with a faulty 16-50mm lens (I knew it beforehand and the price was low because of that) AND NOW I got a free working lens ;)

FYI ~ Mine started 'not recognizing lens' during a trip to the beach. I think it probably got a bit of silt in it on a windy day. Lens began grinding a bit on the slide movement. I cleaned it several times until silent but then cam started not recognizing lens.
After many MORE frustrating hours , I gave up & thought it was ruined. You saved it!! 🥰

Good man! Solved my problem, would have never pressed hard on the lens like that, but it is indeed the solution to the problem, all the other videos talk about wiping the contacts, what BS, everybody knows that! But it clicked and hey presto we are back in business.

Had to fidget a bit more than just one push, but this worked! I was being too gentle..! The lens has been dropped and it dented the front slightly, causing friction when it would try to open. I pulled that piece back hard with my fingernail and then also pushed to level the lens out like he suggested. It works fine now. Sometimes doesn’t close when I turn the camera off, but I close it manually and it opens fin the next time I turn the camera on. Thank you!

This is the single most helpful video I've ever seen. Last night was getting ready to video a guest speaker at a club meeting and this idiot lady walks by and knocks my camera over. It lands on the floor and I get the "cannot recognize lens attach it properly" on the display. Oh crap. I tried everything and nothing worked. Closest Sony repair is 1.5 hours drive. Best buy will want you to sign up with geek squad and they'll just send the camera back to Sony. So this morning I type in Sony replacement lens for a5100 on CZcams. Look around and nothing. Then I scroll down a bit and see this video. Watch the video and in just a few seconds I do what you suggest. Hear the click when I push on the lens that is slightly off center BINGO!!! WOW!! THANK YOU THANK YOU. IT WORKS.You saved me much $$. Thanks again. Liked and Subbed.

ok so i tried doing this when the lens was fully extended, i did initially see the tilt, then fixed it and put the lens back on but then it still didnt work so i tried pushing the lens all the way back in and now it wont even extend anymore please help

@@DIVASFORTRESS im still having the same issue for the past half year but right now my only problem atm is trying to get the lens to open cause damn on my end the lens is too hard to unscrew, but I'd assume it has smth to do with the broken selp1650 plastic ring in the lens, or atleast i hope, still having trouble opening it and might have to buy another of the same screwdriver if more grip could help me unscrew this lens
